    In order to know when the oil is hot enough, it's a good idea to put one kernel in with the oil as it heats. When that pops, you put the rest in! That takes the guessing out.

    I have a bowel disease, and I had to get a special bloodtest to be certain I was gluten intolerant or not. Just saying so maeby you can look into that, because it can be soooooo many other things :) Please look into it so you aren't misinformed and don't eat after the wrong diet :)

      @Nyuhx3 9 років тому +5

      +Christina Nielsen I agree with you. It is always better to have a second or maybe a third opinion. It is ok to eat healthy, but cutting of certain things can damage the body, f.e. no carb an just protein which can lead to kidney failure. AND healthy does not mean no gluten or no sugar... I eat healthy, a lot of vegetables, a lot of fish, no processed meat, just because I don' like it, but I eat things like ice cream and ''bad'' stuff and my bloodtests are pretty good. So eat healthy and eat crap...just find a way between both. the most important thing is to feel good and be happy

    • @fitofpaige
      @fitofpaige 9 років тому +1

      +Laurel Daly I have to agree with you, as someone who is studying to get certified as a nutritionist along side a personal trainer cert, it is really easy. You just need money and they provide all the supplies, and my exam is actually done from home, so I can even use my book. I'm using it to just help people start out eating healthier, but I want people to know that I am not a dietitian/doctor. For something like intolerance to certain things, it's always best to go to someone like an allergist

    • @Nyuhx3
      @Nyuhx3 9 років тому

      +Paige Findley To be a nutritionist is a great thing. A lot of people don't know about the basic things, but especially with allergies you have to visit a doctor, like you said.

      Haha this isn't extreme and it isn't a fad. Nor did we learn her gluten sensitivities were from a hair test. I get where your coming from but gluten sensitivities without having celiac disease is very much real. Very few things in life are binary like you speak of, there are varying levels of sensitivity. I know that the minute I reintroduce gluten into my diet I have inflammation, congestion, and diminished energy.

    When I did popcorn like that for school concessions, I put the oil in with the kernels before heating it and then turn the stirrer and heat on. And if I remember correctly, you also put salt in there as it pops. That should allow the majority of the kernels to pop before the oil burns the popcorn :)
    And for the QOTD.... Elephant ears for sure! And Cotton candy.... and pop! (or soda, whatever you wanna call it)

    Ok but GMOs really aren't something to freak out about or avoid, we've been changing the genetic make up of the organisms we consume for thousands of years through artificial selection. Another thing is that with out science like this there is no way we will be able to feed everyone in the future (we can't even hardly do that now). People tend to panic over GMOs because they're genetically modified organism when really they aren't any different from regular foods.

    • @jackiejax3551
      @jackiejax3551 9 років тому +1

      Not really GMO can be harmful, they are putting pesticides in our food to stop and kill bugs, if that stuff is in our plants that we eat we need to think of the long term affect. The companies who make these products are keeping everything confidential so don't know exactly what genes are in our food!

    • @justinjamesmontague614
      @justinjamesmontague614 9 років тому

      +Jackie Henrietta That's not what GMO means. Organic foods don't have pesticides, but GMO means that the plants have been advanced to be able to grow bigger fruits or withstand disease. There's no reason to believe GMOs are harmful.

      @yerennitenorio6997 9 років тому

      What are GMOs???

    • @MatthiasArcade
      @MatthiasArcade  9 років тому

      There's actually plenty of evidence and research discerning that GMOs negatively affect ones health. So much so, there are regulations and certifications a company must go through to prove that their products are not genetically modified.

    • @MatthiasArcade

    That popcorn machine brings back memories from working in Sunday School. We had rotating classes and I worked with my mother in the "movie" class. We popped popcorn in a machine just like that every Sunday to prepare small bags for the kids! We used to have packages of kernels already in the oil and butter (very unhealthy but crazy yummy) so all we had to do was turn on the machine's heat and stir setting and wait for the popcorn to cook. Matthias, friend, the scoop works a lot easier when you use a forward scooping motion instead of a side scoop motion to scoop up the popcorn! Just fyi.

    Hi Matt and Amanda, hope you're having a lovely day!! Regarding the popcorn maker, we always make our own popcorn, and we use coconut oil. Coconut oil has an extremely high smoke point, so it's safer, and adds a good taste to the popcorn. Additionally, it is what they use or used to use in movie theaters. That's just a suggestion. Oh, regarding the question of the day, nothing beats funnel cake!!!

    my family has been making popcorn like that for FOREVER! My grandpa collects old poppers and it's kind of become a tradition. We have two poppers in our house, and make it by the gallons. It was so funny watching you guys timidly work at it. Here's a few tips: You don't have to leave the oil the heat up very long, it heats up just fine with the corn. We turn the heat and stirrer on at the same time and leave it for ... 30-45 seconds before adding kernals. Salt the kernals before putting them in about a 1/3 or 1/4 tsp or so to 1/2 a cup of corn, it depends how you like it. As soon as the popcorn is not pushing it's way out of the kettle anymore you can dump it. (if your popper's like ours you shouldn't need an oven mitt) Your sweeping to get rid of kernals was spot on. You shouldn't have to add anything like salt if you put popcorn salt with the kernals. Popcorn from machines like this is still tasty days later. :) Best of luck with your popper, and congratulations!

    Turn on the heat and spinner first, then add the kernels and immediately add the oil. Turn off the heat as soon as it starts popping (on your last batch)! Hope this helps!

    Coconut oil is full of saturated fats though. You can stick with olive oil, canola oil, stuff like that, and if you're planning on cooking witht he oil make sure to buy oil specifically for cooking because some natural oils are only meant to be eaten raw or to be heated below a certain amount of heat, if they get hotter they turn into trans fats.

    I have been to the fair 3 times in my life, 2 of the times was when i was a kid with my healthnut parents. I didn't really get to eat much for carnival foods so I will have to say that popcorn with LOADS of butter is probably my favorite! I have tried cotton candy maybe once (I am not even sure if it was at the fair O: ) and I liked it quite a bit!

      I also forgot to add my favorite Carnival food is Kettle Corn! I actually made some stove top kettle corn today and let me just say I am super jealous of your popcorn maker! I use to have one as a kid ( my parents did the making, I just ate it!) but I share your love for popcorn Matt!!

    I love popcorn. I used to work at a movie theater when I was about 17-20 years old (Im 26 now) and I hated cleaning out the popcorn machine. Omg Mattias/Amanda you will hate cleaning it out over time. Nasty gunk of oil starts to form if you dont maintain it well and sometimes certain areas are difficult to reach. Also, if you use special popcorn machine cleaner, you always have to throw away the first batch of popcorn, due to all the chemicals.

    Almost any carnival food is great to me, only because I don't go to one all that much. But if I had to narrow it down, it would have to be either funnel cake or caramel apples. Also this video made me crave for popcorn, so I had to journey off to the kitchen to make some (lol). Thank you for posting such a cute video for my B-day, hope the little Jedi in Amanda's tummy is doing well, and have a good one!

    Yes, you can feel it early. It feels sort of like a fish flopping around! Like something wiggling on your insides, that isn't a feeling you've ever felt before. =) I'm pretty sure that you did feel the baby moving. Congratulations!

    Amanda don't worry being off of gluten isn't that bad! There are so many substitutes that are healthier and so many opportunities to try new things that are usually delicious! And sometimes your body can adapt and the sensitivity goes away. That has began to happen to me, the effects of eating gluten are not as intense anymore

    I work in a popcorn shop and we have a popcorn machine similar but its like, SUPER huge! When you clean it, all it needs is Windex for the glass and what not. (It takes about two times on each glass pane) You can use a nice hot, soapy rag to clean the metal plate in the bottom, unless it's removable then you can actually wash it. (The one at the shop isn't because of a wire attached to the bottom) You were also right about the holes in the metal plate, it catches the little bits and unpoped kernels. XD Now the thing that pops the popcorn I have no idea, the employees, which are mostly high school/college girls, are not allowed to remove it. I hope ya'll enjoy it!!! ^-^
    QOTD: Cotton Candy!!!!! The pink kind!

    Good luck with the gluten intolerance, once you get used to it it's not so bad, I myself have celiac disease. Highly suggest looking for corn pasta, it's delicious.

    Yep. She did felt the baby move i was feeling my baby move a lot on the 12th week 1 week before i miscarried. And yes, it felt like little butterflies. About your nutrition, I study this, be careful and REALLY and I mean REALLY read the ingredients to make sure there's not something you guys cannot consume. About the sugar a good replacement is blue organic agave and organic honey.

    That machine looks like so much fun.
    My favorite carnival dessert is funnel cake, ever since I was 5 my parents would take my sister and I took the rodeo at our fairgrounds and we'd always get a funnel cake before we watched the bull riding. 17 and I've never passed up going to the fair for some funnel cake.
