Appreciate the video. I currently have the smaller thinline. Cool to see it fared so well, especially for a paste down. Crossway makes such good stuff. Also have the larger thinline on the way, mainly because I wanted cross references.

Yeah it’s a great addition to have for a Bible that is almost the same size

I loved the fact that your father’s Bible uses the same type of ‘unofficial’ tabs as mine. I use them to divide both the Old and New Testaments into 5 basic sections.

An excellent bible review! I have an imitation leather slimline bible. I put Fiebling's leather treatment on the cover. Even though it is imitation leather. You can put a Beeswax leather treatment on the cover. The natural Beeswax will moisturize and preserve imitation or real leather. I would recommend it.

I would love an ESV thinline. But the ones I've seen have all been hard to read for some reason. Even the large print ones. I've had to donate at least one that I recall. At first, I thought my eyesight was getting much worse. It scared me. But then I realized I have an ESV compact large print with 8 pt font that I can still read just fine! My eyes are bad, but not that bad. It's not me. It's a problem with some of these thinlines.

I can sympathize! These thin line bibles have pros and cons. Maybe it has something to do with how the font show up on such thin pages?

@@betterbiblereading It must be. I'm just glad my vision is not getting worse. I've worn glasses / contacts since childhood. My biggest fear is one day not being able to read at all.

I have a falling apart 30 year old bonded leather ultra thinline 1984 version of the NIV that I love and adore, but it's so tattered. Thank you for this review. I desperately want another ultra thin carry bible for church and for travel. This is such a hard choice! I do know I will never get a bonded leather covered one again.

Aw, I still have my NIV Study I got in 1988! I know it's expensive but maybe you could get it rebound? Some of these folks can do near miracles in restoring even very damaged Bibles.

I think I will get it rebound. I took this bible with me through Africa, and Europe, and all through seminary, and life after. It's like a comfortable old friend, and I remember so many of the notes I jotted inside@@Yesica1993

I love the ESV (though the CSB is quickly becoming a favorite too), but ever since I went single column I can't "unsee" it and go back to double columns! At least it's really hard, though I do like Schuyler's Quentel and PSQ lines, which are double column but very readable.

    • @Yesica1993
      @Yesica1993 7 місяців тому +1

Oh, goodness, I had never thought twice about 2 column vs 1 column. But that's only because I had only ever seen the 2 column style. Then I bought the ESV Chronological. It is 1 column, black letter, 9 point. I LOVE IT! Unfortunately, I can't make this my everyday Bible because it's not in the normal reading layout. (Too hard to explain here.) But now I can't "unsee" either the 1 column or the black letter! It's so much easier on my old, tired eyeballs. Nobody ever told me! But, of course, I can't find any normal ESVs this way. I think some of the journaling ones are. But those are too big and I don't need all that space. I wish I'd never seen this 1 column style. They've ruined us!

@@Yesica1993 I'm with you! I love single column paragraph and I can't go back. Or at least it's super hard to go back to double columns. Have you seen:
      1. The ESV Single Column Personal Size Reference Bible. That's very portable. Only if you don't mind inner column cross references.
      2. The ESV TruTone Heritage is bigger and thicker or even chunky but still relatively portable.
      3. The ESV Reader's Bible which takes out verse numbers, and in size it's in between the previous two, with the Heritage being the biggest but still portable, and the Personal Reference the smallest but still big enough to hold comfortably in your hands.
      4. The ESV New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. It's beautiful and very portable. But of course no Old Testament, unfortunately.

Nobody make a more flexible Bible than Crossway. After you read it thinline you’ll be hooked. I was an Allan guy before I felt Crossway.

You don’t determine the accuracy of one translation by comparing it to another translation. You look to the Greek and Hebrew text. The KJV was based on half a dozen texts from the 12th century and later. The ESV is based on 5800 texts going back as far as the second century.

@@betterbiblereading Really saddens me when the word of God is messed with by man over and over. God word says we are desperately wicked. We like to think we are improving or errors were made. Our generation is the most devoid of christ likeness in a long time. Babylon of revelations and that old serpent are working to make our bibles ineffective and full of error
