I would argue that the Kurds can be both a stateless nation and a multistate nation. Since the kurds share a common history and culture while occupying a variety of states, this would make them a multistate nation. However, at the same time they do not have a state of their own and do have a history of self-determination which would make them a stateless nation as well.

I would say that the UK is a multinational state not a multistate nation because the different nations of the UK are culturally distinct but they are all still part of the UK. A multinational state is when multiple nationalities (or cultures/ethnicities) are in one country. So yes, the U.S. would be a multinational state.

The UK is not a multistate nation because the UK is not a nation, or an ethnicity who share a common history, language, etc. A multinational state is a state with multiple cultures/nationalities.
