    Very jack black when he did the hand thing to describe what he was saying. Love it

    I think all the people complaining that digital amp modellers doesn´t sound like "the real deal" should listen to this clip (and pay attention to the Deftones part).
    Nick knows what he´s saying...

      I still love how my 5150 version 1 sounds in a jam space. However, I have an AXE FX II XL+ and its is so versatile (not for the squeemish). Amazing piece of kit - not to be ridiculed at all, it owns.

      Ps - If mixing it up with other peoples cabs in a jam space/ can't rely on the PA in the smallish room.... The solution there (using a head) would be combo'ing the power stage of the 5150 into a (split box if you use clean tones) then > AXEFX for EFFECTS and such - best of both words if you so desire .

    The Axe FxII is fantastic.

    I owned the Axe FX Ultra and it got close but it always seemed like it was lacking the last 5-10% of mojo. And this is after A/B'ing many tracks with real tube amps.

    fractal all the way....nick was always a diehard tube amp dude, but what he is saying now is the opposite of his historical pref for tube amps....great to see!
    I think Budosh is pissed because Budosh likes the Kemper

    Never used any Fractal. Even so, there've been many online 'real vs. sim' shootouts over the years. I've never been a notorious tone junkie but I failed those tests reliably. Considering I never thought twice about the 'analog-ness' of Koi No Yokan, I'm both surprised yet not. It's true what they say about it being the ear and not the gear - now more so than ever.
    I agree that Nick sounds questionable in this testimony. Maybe it's the context and seeing how passionate he is about 'real' boxes. At the end of the day, though, it doesn't matter what he says - it matters what you perceive and how you use your available tools.

      I never got the sense that he sounds questionable in his testimony at all--in fact he seemed pretty sincere about it being a tool that works

    Well, it's quite true, unfortunately, more specifically DAW systems. It's pretty hard to draw the direct parallel between the fall of analog recording and digital amp simulation. Granted, it raises other issues, such as the skill of tracking engineers to capture guitar tones, but that is also based solely on how you use it.

    Question: can I create a three amp set up wet-dry-wet the wet being chorus left / right this replicates Brian May live rig - thx

  • @JesterMasque
    @JesterMasque 11 років тому

    Yeah, I would like to know also. It's just another tool to use among the hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment that he has available. I do think it says something if he is choosing to use the Fractal.

    You can create a wet dry rig internally or driving real cabs. Using real cabs will give you that option of wet dry wet or dry wet dry.Whatever your imagination is this unit does it.Fractal and Zexcoil Pickups are the future of music.Not bragging. ..just fact.

    Dont know if this is a dumb question, but you can just plug the axe fx straight into a cabinet or speakers?

    • @johnisevil
      @johnisevil 10 років тому +6

      Not quite. The Axe FX II isn't an amp. You'd need to go Axe FX II > power amp > cabinet. Or you could go Axe FX II > combo amp."
      And not a stupid question at all, by the way.

      John McKnight got it thanks.

      John McKnight Works great with a head + cabinet just as combo amp?
      Is it more wise to get a separate power amp to get the real Axe's tones into business?

  • @uberweiss6251

    I don't understand why he would take a digital amp to tape

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua 5 років тому

      Überweiss “straight to tape” is just language for “recording direct”, not always literally to tape. Kind of like how we say we are “filming” a movie even if we’re using video and not film-the language is just held over.

    Go back, watch that again, and come back here with some context and perspective rather than misplaced hyperbole.
