I walked round the Forest back in the 1970s. We found a ladder against a tree. Climbing it we found a tree house. There was a man sat in it, who explained he was a fire watcher. "How long have you been here", "Since 8:30", "No, how many years?" , "15 years" "Have you seen any fires", "Not yet". Well it is the Lakes!
Thanks for another entertaining adventure, 'squelchy-boots'! You have inspired me not only to get out more, locally, but also to finally make the long trip out of Cornwall and come up to the Lakes for a bit of fell-walking adventure of my own! I'll be in and around Glenridding and Patterdale next week for a few days. I'm hoping for some dry(ish) weather....yeah, I know, dreamland probably! Helvellyn is the ultimate goal, but I have 3 other walks mapped and loaded, around the area. Unfortunately, I have also killed off my boots today, as the left one is now definitely not waterproof! 😳😂 New boots shopping day tomorrow, yay! I look forward, as always, to your next episode, wherever that may take you! 😁👍
Brilliant 👍 Grizedale Hall was used in the movie “ The One That Got Away “ , an old black and white film ….well worth a watch . The Eagle Head pub ……the last time I was there I was very , very drunk lol.
Grizedale Hall was a WW2 POW camp because it is so far from the east coast. The POWs were high ranking officers who the allies did not want to escape, but I seem to remember reading that 1 or more did get out. Thank you for the nice walks & interesting chat.
As I understand it, the downed trees, is Mother Nature's pruning at work. I guess she got a little behind in her chores, and took care of it in one go. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank You for a most enjoyable stroll, Glenn. The sculptures are amazing! 😊
You can hear organ music but the church is locked! Another great video making us all itching to get out and do some walking, and maybe visit the Lakes.
fabulous content as always! We only stayed in Outgate last year and never knew this place was so close, wish we'd managed to visit now. We'll have to make a return trip as this looks fab.
If that's Grizedale forest next to Coniston water , I took my mountain bike from hf holidays Coniston up there a few years ago. The ascent was tricky in a low gear , but whizzing around the tracks was great fun for the day. With a picnic overlooking Coniston.
Loved riding around Grizdale.. think the last time I went was a few years ago we sacked off the walk as we seemed to get wet very fast, after only about 30min, we were getting damp, but lucky we stopped early as we got surrounded by flood water on all the roads.. just about made it out the area..we had to drive down to Kendal to get back to Keswick! Area looks very different now. Thanks for showing us around.
Really enjoyed seeing Grizedale Forest and Sattherthwaite again. We used to have great holidays caping at Grizedale , where the car park is now for the Go Ape! Happy days walking through the forest and Hawkeshead and Coniston area. We climbed Caron Crag and a local dog walkershowed us that we could see Blackpool Tower
Good afternoon Craig Thank you for the fabulous walk through the woods with great views you should always take your camera with you looking forward to the next walk with you on the sofa 🙂
Hi Glenn, thanks for showing us this. I've not been there and looks mega, such a huge area to explore with the family. On the list to visit this year. Sorry I laughed when you stacked it, 🤣. Boots defo getting louder. 🤣
No chances to get to Britain in the nearest future, travelling with you though. Not so expensive at least) Wonderful nature pretty different from ours. Thnx a lot. Appreciate your work. God bless.
Went upto carron crag in October it's a fantastic walk and the views were fantastic. I then volunteered to take the kids on the tree top ropes and zip wires, where I quickly realised as an adult I don't like heights like I used to 😂😂
Eeeeh, this video has taken me back, in a roundabout sort of way! I went to Lancaster Uni, where (for those who don't know) there are 9 colleges on the campus, each named after a place in the local area, and each with its own bar. Friday nights were 'Campus Bar Crawl' night usually starting at County College (which was a bit pants, sorry County, but it was!) at the northern end of Campus, and went down the hill. The 7th bar was Grizedale, which would often have a disco on called the 'Grizedale Sh*te' 😂. It was actually a pretty good disco, but the college was notorious for having the smallest rooms on campus (the rumour was they couldn't legally put plaster in the walls because it would violate the regulations against habitable living space) and the most basic bar. Plus they were right next door to Pendle College, which was the expensive college with a giant but soulless bar that looked like an airport lounge. Their Friday night disco WAS sh*te 😂😂😂 Also, Freshers week, me and a friend signed up to the Hikers Club, and the first walk was Old Man of Coniston. We were NOT prepared for that walk 😂, not least because we were probably hungover after a campus bar crawl. 803m tall, and I think we set off from the town as well, so a roughly 700m ascent. The summit was in cloud so we didn't even get the views. We didn't go on any more walks after that, I think we maybe should have started with a smaller hill 😂😂😂
I always look forward to Sunday night and viewing your latest Black Crag video. Too me, I can't see why the authorities would cut down (not all of those trees were blown down; too many marks of power saws on some) unless it's because they wanted the younger trees to have a chance to grow. We are just now seeing the signs that Spring is on it's way here in the Texas Hill Country--the Red Bud bushes and Oriental Plums are blooming but we're still awaiting those smart Pecan Trees to put out green shoots. But I believe I waxed eloquent about all of that last Sunday. Have a wonderfully blessed rest of your week and once again, thanks for this video.
I can imagine it to be very beautiful here in early summer and Autumn, just need some good light. crepuscular rays and weather inversions. You can't say I haven't learnt anything. 😆 Thanks Glenn.
Please tell me that you went out today (3rd March) to the Coniston Range- it was looking mighty fine this afternoon from this path between Troutbeck village and Windermere. Beautiful snow-capped peaks!
Another nice one Glen, love the waffling, but it is time you retake the wainwrights, missing the dramatic views. Nice ending also with the Elfl music!! Keep up the nice work!! Cheers!!
Thanks, Glen. I was wondering, were you supposed to go up to the giant stile, then the Fox and loop round past the other tarn? Before dropping down? I saw the sculpture you were trying to find. It was years ago, and I was with a group of very young children. Let's just say the conversation got a bit tricky!!!😊
Done the Silurian way there a couple of times over the years which incorporates Carron crag. Didn't seem to be as many storms before about 10 years ago.
Great video Glenn, love the presentation of your videos, look forward to them every week. I’d just like to add, the moment you tripped & fell, the adverts kicked in, so had to wait till they finished to watch you fall flat on your face 😂😂 (sorry 😊) 👍
Enjoyed the video again. These are giving me lots of options for our upcoming trip. But question is where was this Royal Oak. I couldn’t quite hear where you headed. 🍻👍🏼
Great video of an area i have yet to further explore. As for mysterious footsteps. We took a tea time walk up Gowbarrow in June 2015. My then partner shot off to bag the trig. I could see him bobbing along in the distance. I was on a bit of a gravel path and i heard footsteps coming up behind me. I tuned to give a cheery hello but no one was there. The foosteps carried on past me. As you can imagine i bolted. All the time had a feeling of being watchec.
glenn, how can a fella who is scared of most things in life want to hurtle down a hillside on a bike at 30 mph. ha ha . and nice to see the manly beer at the end, good on yer. see you next week somewhere
I worked in the forestry commission for 12 years as a cutter I.E chainsaw work those trees you see downed, it's called winblow, the ones that you pointed are fairly young not properly rooted either because of terrain or what species thay, cutters disslike wind blow takes an age to clear up, and makes the work harder than it allready is... making it more dangerous when you are in amongst the bigger trees...specially amongst pine... pine are a shallow rooted...😮
The giant pencil ✏️ or pencils was designed by a woman who had artistic or modern take on thing's. I think 🤔. Unless they are the next craze to camp out in 😂. Anyway good video once again thank-you xx

In his his case a cushy number wouldn't have paid much though...
What a wonderful way to spend Sunday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode 😊
Beautifully presented to a professional level as always
Thanks for the latest video Glenn…
I’ll watch this later on this evening in front of the log burner with a brew…
Much love to you & the Finnster 🥰
This channel gets better with each post. I so enjoyed this video. Thank you.
I so enjoy your wanderings, even in the middle of carnage.
Nice walk Glen.
Wasn't it Grizedale Hall that Messerschmitt Me109 pilot Franz von Werra escaped from?
Film "The one that got away" is about him.
Your boots blended in with the birds chirping 🤣
As I understand it, the downed trees, is Mother Nature's pruning at work. I guess she got a little behind in her chores, and took care of it in one go. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank You for a most enjoyable stroll, Glenn. The sculptures are amazing! 😊
That looks outstanding, the valley in the last quarter looked amazing.
You can hear organ music but the church is locked! Another great video making us all itching to get out and do some walking, and maybe visit the Lakes.
Great video as usual Glenn. 👍. Thank you for putting this together and showing other parts of the Lake District🙏
Thanks!
Thank you so much, really appreciate that 🙏
Great vid! I'm surprised there weren't any bears! That circular one in the nice back light was very prometheusesque! 👍😎
It's Willbo!
Ah. Good stuff! We have been waiting for it! It's our Sunday evening ritual now!
Definitely interested in a mountain biking trail, love your videos.
Great as usual, Look forward to Sunday viewing now
Very enjoyable. Thank you !

Love hearing the sound of the birdsong in the background, great episode 👍

Love your manner, man. Simple and nice. Like I am walking with you myself out there. 👍
No chances to get to Britain in the nearest future, travelling with you though. Not so expensive at least)

Happy Sunday Glenn 😀😀 , hope Finn is well 🐶❤️. Yeh agree that had creepy Blair witch vibe 🤣 reckon you and Josh should do a nighttime walk there 😀😀👍👍.

Good that they're re planting trees there, beautiful place and must admit was there as a teenager got lost and it was creepy
Great video buddy thanks for sharing I think the boots are done very squeaky 😊😂
My boots are knackered & squeak too...saving my new 'uns for springtime ❤🎉
Another nice one Glen, love the waffling, but it is time you retake the wainwrights, missing the dramatic views. Nice ending also with the Elfl music!! Keep up the nice work!! Cheers!!
Just discovered your channel, love it to bits and love Finn ❤️ thank you 😀

👍
Love the ending music… anyway hoping you didn’t get hurt with that bit of spill.
Ridden the Red and Black bike trails at Grizedale a few times , the Blue trail is easy , you would be able to ride the Red/Black easily on an E-bike
I think the wooden cones have escaped from The Pencil Museum at Keswick...
If you had the eerie sounding one right next to the Prometheus one 😱
Those cones look like the chutes they put your christmas tree in to be able to wrap and tie it. Obviously on a massive scale
Fantastic walk Glenn, unfortunately the link to the OS map doesn’t work.
OS route not working Glenn. Fixed! Thanks!
Having the same dilemma with my new boots vs old 😅
I still live in the same town where I grew up and I still struggle with the sound of running behind me turning out to be a jogger.
Enjoyed the video again. These are giving me lots of options for our upcoming trip. But question is where was this Royal Oak. I couldn’t quite hear where you headed. 🍻👍🏼
Got it Cartmel. I cleaned my ears out and hushed the dog up 😁

What was that tarn called mate?
glenn, how can a fella who is scared of most things in life want to hurtle down a hillside on a bike at 30 mph. ha ha . and nice to see the manly beer at the end, good on yer. see you next week somewhere
I've been searching online for that jacket. Is it Ospey?
great vlogand yes you should hire a bike
The type of root that had you over are known as "Sniper Roots" in the mountain biker business. They've caught me out a few times 😂
Link to OS failed?
That would be an awesome Halloween hike, hahaha 🇬🇧🇺🇸🍺
Would love to follow your routes, without watching the videos do you have the routes available anywhere please?
It’s not just my boots that creak then.🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can never walk into a chapel or church quietly with squeaky boots 😅
. . . “ God doth have a sense of humour “…
@@donaldcook3112 😂 yes.
💖
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to put your head in the small end of those cones and they amplify the forest sounds
To think once upon a time most of Britain was one big forest...😮
Spaceship?? 👽😧
I, too, have a squeaky boot-and because it works just fine, I’m loath to get rid of it. So, I endure…😏
Get your new boots out, they weren't purchased to stop in a box 😂
The giant pencil ✏️ or pencils was designed by a woman who had artistic or modern take on thing's. I think 🤔. Unless they are the next craze to camp out in 😂. Anyway good video once again thank-you xx
Karen's are lovely ill have you know 😂😊
Erasing the past one landmark at a time.
Complaining about bikers ruining it for others and then walking down the bike track..? 🤔
