Thank you Bob, for featuring Lauren, I’ve been living in my Kia Soul in the city for 2 1/2 years and working. Thank you for sharing her tips. Thank you
Yes!! I left the federal government early on with no pension benefits. I stayed in touch with my friends who stayed for the retirement pay === all of whom ended up with disabilities such as illnesses, cancer, even car crash-related injuries. At 73, I'm healthy, free, still working to supplement my low SSR payments!! I am very happy with my decision!!
I’m 73 and have been watching Bob and others for about 2 years now. In spite of coronavirus, I think I’m going to venture out in November in my Kia Soul.
Best thing is to do what you love...then retirement is a blast too. I was raised to work for what I wanted, sacrifice if you want something bad enough. I worked 33yrs for govt and happy I did. Was able to retire at 56....best life choice ever. Having goals gives meaning to life....Small goals, larger goals, but they are yours to choose.
Bob, with what all is going on in our country right now, meaning job losses, income losses, I have a very strong feeling more people will choose this lifestyle out of necessity. Thank you for your encouraging videos. Your help and expertise will be a Godsend to many people.
I'll be picking a Kia Soul up soon and outfitting it with a couple power inverters, microwave etc. I am mapping out all kinds of traveling routes for different sites like my Waterfall tour in SC then another in NC then probably on to several other places that I have alway's wanted to go... Graceland, Nasheville etc... Fun Stuff !!!
There are many types of homeless and this could be considered one of them. The channel Invisible People is really good at showing the different kinds of homelessness out there.❤
Laura is an East Coast friend, and she is awesome. She seems quiet and demure (unlike me), then you find out she is FEARLESS (also unlike me! lol). I am SO happy I met her; she has changed my life for the better and here once again, has inspired me. Love you Laura! xoxo Erin S
Many people want to work and have things but many of us just want to live and experience moments and ditch the things, society tells us that's not successful but I'm happy were beginning to ignore society.
She is sooo Awesome!!! I love her attitude to Life so down to earth and she is genuinely happy !!! She epitomizes less junk and more Freedom !!!love your interviews Bob so enlightening always !!! Can't wait to see Nomadland!!!
Yes! This is so similar to my story! I’m in my Jeep because it’s what I had and I honestly love it!! I was afraid to tell other people at first but I’ve gotten much more confident over the last few months.
cana dude not very comfortably. I’m 5’4” and I fit head to toe with a bit of wiggle room but if you didn’t need a lot of storage and could sleep diagonally, you could make it work.
@Shadowman84FS I know this isn't true. Bob filmed me in January of last year but my videos did not come out till October. It is well known, because Bob has said so, that he fills most of his interview videos right after the RTR in January and then edits and releases them over the following year.
I was going to suggest that as well. I kept thinking to myself, why aren’t they distancing themselves? 🥴 and why isn’t anyone wearing a mask? Btw, it is the first week of April 2020.
I love this! Kudos to living your dream! Freedom is so important to being happy! I love that she said she is a hermit! I am too, I took a test once and found out I am 98% introvert. Solitude in nature is living the dream!!
Thank you Bob and Laura, as usual I’m inspired. I’m 73 and have a Kia Soul. You’ve helped me to go ahead and start out in my Kia. I was about to make a plunge and purchase something bigger but if you can do it Laura, so can I. With the coronavirus I think it best to try full timing in what I have just to see if I can make it under these circumstances. Last year I traveled for about a month in my Kia but I had a makeshift sleeping arrangement that wasn’t all that bad. I too had a great time seeing different things. I agree no one thinks anyone is sleeping in a Kia. I didn’t get any knocks.
Divine Mojo I have a Kia Soul too (alien green) and am now inspired too!! Possibly weekend trips to get my feet wet :) we could start a Kia soul caravan!!
I’ve been looking for a van to trade my 2016 Caribbean blue Soul but when it comes down to it I just cannot seem to part with my Soul. I love it so much that I may have to also try what Laura is doing. ✌🏼
I love Laura’s story. I think I’m in the same boat. I have a job but definitely languishing. And I’ve been watching these videos by Bob for a while but have wanted to be a nomad my whole life I think. I’ve been wanting to get a van but maybe a minivan will do and hopefully I’ll be able to do this later this year... thank you bob for all your work... and HOWA too! 🌿🎶💕🙏🏽
I’ve watched this video twice. So amazing. I have a 2020 Kia Soul. I have a house and job, live in Florida, but I LOVE Bob’s video’s and am inspired by them and the people on their journeys. Loved the movie Nomad Land too. I believe more and more people will be going the simpler lifestyle. Peace to all of you ✌️
Put some paraffin on the zipper of your privacy (tent). That will keep it from getting stuck and/or skipping. It's a lifesaver. If you don't, then after a few months you will think your zipper is ruined, when it isn't.
Thank goodness for these videos I bought my van today and now I am scared. I’ve committed to it. Now what? I keep watching videos like this to make me take the next steps.
Thank you for sharing this! I found it to be very encouraging. I am 64 and recently just realized I did not want to go one more day at the job I was working at. I was trying to make it to retirement, which would have been in Sept 2021, but hated my life and the mundane existence I was living. I had purchased a 5th wheel about a couple years ago, and sold my house, and parked the 5th wheel on my daughter's property in Ramona, CA. But eventually she convinced me to sell it and just live inside. I wish I would have kept it, but still enjoy living out in the country with my daughter, her husband and my grandson, and my three English Bulldogs. I watch alot of videos on van conversion and RVs and constantly think of doing something like this, but was a little afraid of being out there on my own. I also am an artist and hoping to start to do this, as it is something I truly enjoy and feel I have somewhat of a talent for it. The problem is that I have so much art equipment that I even found it hard to keep in the 5th wheel. My current room at my daughter's home is filled with art supplies. Not sure how to downsize this. Thank you for your videos. They are inspiring.
Elaine Ruiz - you can do it girl!! Parting with your art supplies can be surprisingly difficult! Just take the essentials and store the rest at your daughters house. If you find you really need something then that would be a good excuse to visit the daughter. Also start with some short excursions to figure out what you really need or can live without. I hope you dump your job and LIVE a little! Good luck👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I am a new subscriber to your channel. I was really impressed with this video because I have a Kia soul like the young ladies Kia soul. I love to camp and I never even thought about doing it this way. Thank you so much for posting this video. I will continue to watch all of them because this is something that I have been interested in rather than camping in a tent. I am getting ready to retire and thinking about selling all my property except for the car of course and maybe living off the grid somehow. Thank you so much have a wonderful day!
I have a Kia Soul. I don’t travel in it like that, but the one thing I love about the Soul is how spacious the front seating is. Some of these newer vehicles are just overwhelmed by the size of the dashboard but the Kia Soul doesn’t have that issue.
Thank you for making these videos during these times. We ALL look forward to them. Thank you for your time and efforts in making these videos and making them fun and informative too.
I love this channel, and feel that Bob has helped a lot of people in a great number of ways; whether it be in their quest for freedom, or in dealing with hard times. I myself have wanted to hit the open road for a number of years now, but various obligations and circumstances have prevented me from doing so, and I say that without regret. With that being the case, I really appreciate the opportunity to share in these adventures vicariously. Still, I cannot wrap my head around the entire concept of actually living full time in something as small as a car. I know, "Different strokes for different folks" and sometimes you simply have to make do with what you can afford, but I can't imagine actually *aspiring* to that degree of minimalism. When I see something like this, I ask myself, what's next ... How To Live In A 55 Gallon Drum? But then I realize that these travelers are a lot tougher than I could ever hope to be, and that what confuses *me* might possibly inspire others. So I take my hat off to them, and wish them well.
I've thought about this a lot, myself, and always try to remember many folks have LIVED with even less - no vehicle at all. I'm not to that point yet, but I am about to head out in my SUV. Luckily I have the means to afford some elements of comfort - fridge, solar, etc., so I'm excited and grateful to have that, and to be retired and have SS to rely on (for now at least).
Zippered pillow cases can be so helpful because they can serve as storage for clothing or blankets, but can also be used as pillows :) What I like to do is put my things in a waterproof zippered pillow protector and then place that inside of the other zippered cloth pillow protector, that way my clothes or items inside remain clean and I only have the wash the outside cloth pillow cover :)
I admire your courage ...... I am one of the home dwellers still ..... I just sit here Aeschylus nite and live vicariously thru these inspiring and ever so interesting ways of life ! Gosh what I wouldn’t give to do this .... Have a wonderful journey !
I'm so impressed how many women chose this kind of living. For us in Europe it's impossible to live this way. I think you have to be very courageous to choose this way, to live in a car or RV and to travel, but on the other side, amazing. Travelling, meeting new people, see and visit so many places. Great respect for all who choose to live so free.
Laura has done a wonderful job! I like the idea of a smaller vehicle because if you think about it, it's even more stealth. Of course it would be hard for two people, but in a pinch... Makes me realize that in the short term my husband and I could make do in our Kia Sorento until finding a good used Lazy Daze.
Thank you Bob for another great video. This ladies window coverings are awesome. I’ve got a Honda Odyssey van and now realize that I can make covers for the windows so cheap and easy!!! Styrofoam, blackout curtains & tape. Wow!!!! Then the solar panel, maybe a generator too. I’ve got to start working on my van. Keeping “sticks n bricks” until we see if this lifestyle is the right choice! Thank you again for all that you do. Sending hugs, blessings & safe travels to you and Cody!
Brava to this lady! Thanks for the video. Recently found your vids, my lease is up in May....wanting financial freedom. LOL I have a Kia Soul so loved seeing this.
My Kia Forte is advertised at like 34 mpg hwy but last 2 trips to Colorado I was averaging 50mpg!!! It was amazing!! and I love my Kia, it flies to 80 lickity split!!!
Fare play Laura - As a Kia Soul Owner, this has got me thinking! Of traveling during summer months around Ireland. I use a camping stove at the moment for breakfasts & lunch at work so, I'm finding my feet !!!
Lora, please take good care of yourself on the road. you are so impressive to me living in that little car. bless you!! I'll keep you in my prayers that you stay safe and keep loving your life ;) you are so inspiring !!
This is totally a sign and I can relate! I have the exact same car and just spent a test night in it last night! Still working on my bed set up and where I want to have my outdoor kitchen.
Super inspirational, what a cool lady! Just found your channel, and love it. Thank you for all the time and effort that you put into making these videos. :)
Laura is awesome and I'm so happy I found this video! I have a 2015 Soul that I've been thinking about car camping as an intro to full time after retirement in 12 years. I tried to find Laura and she has no channel of her own? Please feel free to pass along my inquiry to Laura. And thanks for sharing her experience!
its wonderful moment of life when you live alone and free I'm about to write a book soon. its almost 2 months I'm living in my car I lost all my etc weight due to best exercise and diet.
Wow !!! Wonderful information and appreciate your stories and all about things in a KIA SOUL ! I have the same and plan to do what You’re doing !! This has helped me SO MUCH !!!!!!!!! Thank you !! Thank You !!! You are a real inspiration . You’ve given me hope !!!!!!!! 🙂
Love her confidence. I feel the space is too confined but like the fact she used what she had to start with. I wonder how she is coping now through the pandemic, no showering at gyms, the need to stock up. I hope she ordered a roof rack to stick a storage box on top.
Way to go, Laura! I got lucky and half way through my Federal career, I ended up in a field I liked. Still, I retired at 57 - I go out part-time in my short skoolie as my mom (almost 91 and very independent) lives with me. I am east of the Mississippi, so free land to camp is wee harder to come by.
If a lot of people are like Bob and the people he meets, I could see this adventure lifestyle being quite appealing. Maybe not for everyone and maybe not forever but I get it.
Bob, I love seeing all your videos. I admire how you all have gotten out of the rat race. I would love to see a video about what you all do to fill your time. I know you aren’t just sitting in chairs staring at mountains. I’m planning my own escape.
Seems happy to me. Veggen starting to sound go o d. I went to get a small beef london Broil. Usually $11. $26 FOR THE SMALLEST. ALL THE food cost more this week.
Thank you Bob, for featuring Lauren, I’ve been living in my Kia Soul in the city for 2 1/2 years and working. Thank you for sharing her tips. Thank you
Much more suitable and enjoyable than living on the streets
Kudos!!!

calling it a "lifestyle" is not the right word : this is being "homeless". you don t become homeless by choice
@@DenisFrance88 I don't think this is homeless. This is minimalist living by choice. Homeless is living in a cardboard box in the alley.

White Dove I’m in a Jeep Cherokee. My channel has a few videos about it if you’re curious. I’d love to see yours when you finish!
good for you...btw would a 5'11 dude fit in one of those sleep-wise?

Bob (or KC), y'all might want to think about starting to include the date these were recorded. It might be historically important some day.

Thank you !! Thank You !!! You are a real inspiration . You’ve given me hope !!!!!!!!
🙂
Laura is awesome!
Love her confidence. I feel the space is too confined but like the fact she used what she had to start with. I wonder how she is coping now through the pandemic, no showering at gyms, the need to stock up. I hope she ordered a roof rack to stick a storage box on top.
Would have loved the links to the generator, usb fan, solar and USB light
Way to go, Laura! I got lucky and half way through my Federal career, I ended up in a field I liked. Still, I retired at 57 - I go out part-time in my short skoolie as my mom (almost 91 and very independent) lives with me. I am east of the Mississippi, so free land to camp is wee harder to come by.
Dang! She didn't even take the seats out 😲
Great video!!! Love all the great tips!
Wow that is a small car to live in , I like her sleeping set up. 👍🇬🇧
I owned a Kia Soul. I can’t imagine....
If a lot of people are like Bob and the people he meets, I could see this adventure lifestyle being quite appealing. Maybe not for everyone and maybe not forever but I get it.
Hi bob. You are a super hero.
Bob, I love seeing all your videos. I admire how you all have gotten out of the rat race. I would love to see a video about what you all do to fill your time. I know you aren’t just sitting in chairs staring at mountains. I’m planning my own escape.
great idea and tips!
Respect to the lady.
Super solar system plus a kia equal mucho fun for very little bucks... Thanks Laurel...
