I mean, imagine your boss having this weird unhinged teenager who can and will get away with ANYTHING because her dad is in charge. So everyone clearly has to walk on eggshells to avoid getting on her and by extent Silco's bad side. And it's not just getting fired they have to worry about She'll call you whatever she wants and don't bother trying to correct her, this ain't your bar

It's also worth noting that the camera angels are cut frequently and chaotically when Jinx is talking. Though she's already acting crazy with her body language, the camera work definitely added tension and chaos to her character.
A thing to consider do you think that jinx popped the paint bomb on Chuck's shirt in order to make him leave to get a new one, emptying the bar making sure Siveka didnt get any forewarning of her presence. Lowering her guard for the gas bomb ambush

Hmm, thinking about it i find it funny, or i guess interesting, that in their conversation she priorities flirting/teasing chuck. When chuck informs her of Sevika's fight/injury it's clearly important information to jinx, as she's taken aback, but then she quickly moves past it, storing it away as important for later but choosing to focus on teasing chuck instead of breaking face and pressing him for more serious answers. This is probably just the routine of their relationship, as everyone has different faces with different people, and flirting is just how jinx wants to interact with chuck but I find it funny that not only did jinx go, "Yep i want this one" but that raining chaos on him is genuinely important to her, or enough so, that she didn't find it necessary to break character.
I actually cut a sentence talking about exactly that question bc it brought me over the 1min mark 😅 My theory is that since her whole method is "make him feel so uncomfortable that he'll tell me whatever I want to know just to get me to leave", she makes sure to crank it all the way up at the end so he'll remember how extra uncomfortable it is next time she does this, and it will get easier and easier each time. I hear your theory too though, could just be how she likes to interact with him OR even her just being really dedicated to messing with people in general

I think the nervousness stems mostly from the fact that he's trying to hide details from Jinx and Jinx's craziness and her proximity to Silco makes his reaction understandable. (A comment on reddit pointed out she acts pretty demanding too. She taps on the table for her drink and also snaps and points to it for a straw) I don't think Jinx is flirty? Playful yes but I personally don't think she's the kind of person who'd care for that and her age is anywhere from 14-18 depending on your source making it kinda weird but that's just how I see it. Good analysis nonetheless.
Actually, according to various official sources pierced together, Jinx is 18. As in Twitter, one of the people behind the show said she was 11 in Act 1, and in another post the time skip was said to be 7 years.

The only scene where we see her just hanging out and being close to normal , this scene also show how smart Jinx is like she instantly knew something was up and realized how she was deliberately being left out of the situation like everyone was trying to keep her from finding out about Vi coming back even tho she had very little reason to believe or guess that she was being kept in the dark on purpose , plus Jinx is being friendly and I don't think she planned to kill him , I hope we see her and him interacting next season , this was a fun interaction !
What you say about Silco telling Jinx she has to be what others fear is very interesting. We don't get to see how much Silco's influence has shaped Jinx's character until the end of the season when she has her monologue. Also, when Jinx hits Caitlyn and Silco tells her to finish it, pushing her to kill Caitlyn.
Technically there are plenty of more subtle hints of Silco in Jinx in act 2. Her facial expressions are often a childish variation of his, her love for theatrics came from him, and even the threatening way she talks with wordplay when she's interrogating Sevika and later Silco comes from Silco, like when he's threatening Marcus's daughter.
"Almost breaks character" ...She can't be shocked AND crazy? Not to say she doesn't play it up, she absolutely leans into it, but it's a weird way to put it.
There are more scenes than I can count in this movie that perfectly mirror previous scenes. The thought put into each scene and the connections between them is absurd and beautiful to me.
I don't think it's flirty at all, it's playful teasing with a very real threat underneath it. She knows everyone knows who she is and how much power she holds, she's and exact opposite to silcos cold, collected demeanor but in no way less threatening. She's very demanding and pressing for informations while toying with his anxiety cause he knows she might lose her shit any second and she's threading on that thin line between being calm and going apeshit.
It also shows how distorted her reality is. She believes that the bartender is Chuck and when he provides his actual name, she thinks he's trying to pull a fast one on her, because he's Chuck to her and nothing will dissuade her from that reality.
Actually, I think she's doing it on purpose. The bartender views Jinx as a crazy person, and she is playing along to mess with him and maybe get more information out of him. Sorta like a crazy intellectual villain.

People tend to forget that despite her traumas, she is still a genius and schooled in knowing how to make people fear her.
While I agree with the others that he knows "Theorem" is his actual name, I actually think her calling him "Chuck" is a reference to Huck, the old bartender back when Vander was still alive that is now a shimmer addict.
I always perceived Jinx as something Powder was trying to become/Silco was trying to mold her into. Eventually, aspects of Jinx (the more darker ones like the cruelty and apathy) became part of who she was, but I completely agree that a lot of the lighter hearted parts of it are a persona.
I just LOVE the editing in these shorts. The way you use the split screen to show all of the characters, mirroring the same character, use the top vs the bottom of the screen to illustrate different scenes, it's so much effort that just adds so much to the breakdowns you're giving us.
And then the bomb on his back is like a foreshadowing with what's going to happen with Caitlyn. You can never tell when Jinx's game is going to become lethal because she's so erratic, so originally you see the bomb on the bartender's back and you think he's dead (just like the platter teaser in the finale with Caitlyn). But it's just a misdirection. Jinx seems to like those.
I like your analysis a lot but i really don't see how you can call her behaviour flirty. It's playful and mischievous, of course, but there is nothing that indicates any interest in the bartender from Jinx's side. Honest question: If Jinx were a guy, would you still call the behaviour flirty?

I didn't read her as flirty either... Seems like a stretch imo. Playful? Yes. Teasing? Yes. But it didnt feel it was sexually or romantically loaded. "You're doing great" and randomly hugging someone isn't flirty in my book. I thought the purpose of the hug was to plant the prank bomb on his back.
Also noone ask who is this guy. Why HE afraid of her so much? Thing is it was him in episode 1 chasing Powder from the street fight when Powder lost their stuff. Her bomb didn't work back then. And now this conversation ends up Jinx set a bomb on him that didn't work. It was joke from her that remind him she remember him.

I don't think they're the same person. One think that stayed consistend for every character, no matter how much they changed after the time skip, is the form of the face, but if he is supposed to be the same character then his face changed completely.
just rewatched that part of episode 1, theres no way theyre the same person. although i wish it were because that would just be one of those fun easter eggs that you'd get on the second or third rewatch lol.
I compared the 2 people and honestly l don't think they're the same person. They just look to different to be the same. With every character in the show even though they aged you could still tell who was who.
I like how the bartender serves her what looks to be the same drink in the same cup that Vander gives her. She must’ve requested it specifically often enough throughout her life

Gee... I've wondered the same, but I've come to the conclusion that just wouldn't work. At least according to the Jinx we've seen in Arcane, she's still stuck in a child-like mentality. Even if she didn't push them alla way with just how (real talk) mother-fucking-scary, she is, I still think the idea wouldn't simply compute in her mind. And if by any reason, it did, it would be EXTREMELY toxic and just overall... bad. That's just my opinion, though.
Jinx "grenaded" the bartender as an act of revenge, she took it personally when he explains to her that "its just a saying". Also I love the direct scene comparison in your video. It would be cool to see a video where you try to explain what exactly Jinx is in relation to Powder. I See her as a nasty facade (or "walls") Powder is putting up in front of people (except Silco) and to a certain extend even herself (she literally argues with her feelings of guilt and inferiority, which are represented by Mylo and Claggor) in order to protect herself. She has been doing this for so long, that this Jinx persona has gradually but not yet completely replaced Powder over the years.

One of my favorite things about arcane is how they show us that Jinx is simultaneously no where near as crazy as everyone thinks she is and exactly as crazy as everyone thinks she is
Honestly to see Jinx from Arcane in a relationship or something akin to a flirtatious one would be hilarious because she would have no idea what to do and just break, I mean I'm sure 90% of R/nice guys would be excited but like it would be funny to watch.
TBF to Powder, SHE didn't kill Vander. Yes, her monkey bomb directly killed Claggor and Milo. But Vander survived the explosion. It was always Silco that caused the chain of events that 'killed' Vander. Powder was just along for the ride. Vi blamed Powder, but Silco was after one or all of them all along. It was a trap, they were doomed.
Another example of Arcane's beautiful foreshadowing. Her being at the bar the same way she was as a kid is kind of foreshadowing Silco's accidental death. Powder being at Silco's bar now, the exact same way she was at Vander's is while creepy because she killed vander, also foreshadowing for her killing Silco now that it's his bar. It's also interesting how she accidentally kills both Vander and Silco.
I think jinx just constantly mirrors her past self... Showing that she is still subconsciously connected to her old self and never outgrew the little girl she was
Never really considered her "flirty" in this scene. She's just taking maximum advantage of how uncomfortable "Chuck" is with her. I got more the feeling of "Oh *insert your preferred word here* it's the crazy bosses daughter who can do anything she wants and I can't do anything about it" vibe from him more than anything else. But yeah Jinx most definitely leans into her "craziness" as a persona too. Also I found it more sad than creepy that she's doing the same thing she did as Powder. The show suggests that Vander really only had a close relationship with Vi, so you would think this would have been a bonding thing between Powder and Vander. The fact that she's still doing this as Jinx to me suggests that it was something she enjoyed and continues to do so, very likely as a routine, but did not considering as something "exclusive" to Vander - that she feels this routine is more comfort for her and his role in it was insignificant. Very similar to memories and routines I had/have with my dad.
Powder/Jinx didn't intend for the bomb to work like how it did. She was counting on it being unstable. The reason why it worked like how it did was because it was made stable. She had no way of knowing that.
Could be a casing design that basically turns into powder upon explosion. Kinda like how 40mm chalk rounds sometimes just explode into powder when fired.
I like to think that Chuck was already on edge because he knows that Jinx made grenades that looked exactly like the chompers she stuck on him, and the paint instead was to get him to leave to change his shirt so Jinx could ambush Sevika alone
also when she breaks character her toy is stuck on her straw like shes getting a grip on what's going on but the toy loses it grip when she goes back into character
I always saw this as the Powder persona leaking through, I imagine as a kid Powder would often sit at that bar to think often getting dadvice from Vander and now as an adult she sits hoping to get direction from whatever guy happens to be tending the bar as a substitute Vander. That’s why she’s constantly egging him on like “You’re doing great Chuck!” He’s playing into her fantasy of Vander still being around to give her advice.
I really like jinx as a character both in Arcane and regular league. She is genuinely insane but it’s like split personality because occasionally some of the things she does are completely sane, so unlike some wildcard insane characters she’s even more of a wildcard because occasionally she’s just a normal person
Never forget, Jinx didn't get her Ultimate Attack until the 6 episode of the show as Jinx (Episode 9, technically, but she was Powder the first 3 episodes)
Ok, but she didn't kill Vander. Not only because he's still alive, but even in the explosion she caused, he was ok. He was injured, and then used shimmer to become a freaking monster, but it kept him alive and able to fight to save vi. Also, he's still alive now, he's just not vander anymore lol
Jinx chaotic nature seems bearible and make her sound like a fun friend to hangout with.....up until her revive, imagine if you were silco/ Vi in the "tied in dining table scene" . And watch jinx talk with herself and banging her head with the gun? she's freaking psychopaticly crazy. Her randomness can make joker from DC confuse
The message is like “I can kill you anytime and you wouldn’t notice, just like I did to my father, so better be honest to me” and she randomly puts inoffensive bombs around and you can’t tell if it’s your last breath or another awful joke as a warning
After all these years I've also noticed that she's somewhat acting out what she thinks happened. Being kinda and nice and vulnerable, only to blow up Vander with something thought to be harmless. He stands where Vander did, and the only difference is that she's now grown and instead of using something harmless to deal damage, she can make something deadly be harmless when she needs it to be. Same bar, same cup, "same" orb, same chomper, same positions, different people. She even has the hextech orb on her mind, but she knows exactly what it does, as it's IN her own drink as she knocks it around with the straw.
I see it less as a personal and more of an alternate personality that powder is in condition fight against so she can regain her power wich explains the glitches... this is what she actually sees everytime she has an episode
Nice video! And there's another thing about this scene: it's the second time we see Jinx has poor social skills, she makes awkward jokes and comments, she doesn't understand sayings, so, obviously, she has no friends and she probably doesn't talk to people much except to her father.

It also shows how distorted her reality is. She believes that the bartender is Chuck and when he provides his actual name, she thinks he's trying to pull a fast one on her, because he's Chuck to her and nothing will dissuade her from that reality.
Actually, I think she's doing it on purpose. The bartender views Jinx as a crazy person, and she is playing along to mess with him and maybe get more information out of him. Sorta like a crazy intellectual villain.
It's just an intimidation tactic.
@@TheScyphozoa Exactly this. She is basically telling him she doesn't care who he is and therefore it wouldn't matter to her what she'd do to him. She punctuated that point with the glitter bomb. People tend to forget that despite her traumas, she is still a genius and schooled in knowing how to make people fear her.
While I agree with the others that he knows "Theorem" is his actual name, I actually think her calling him "Chuck" is a reference to Huck, the old bartender back when Vander was still alive that is now a shimmer addict.
I always perceived Jinx as something Powder was trying to become/Silco was trying to mold her into. Eventually, aspects of Jinx (the more darker ones like the cruelty and apathy) became part of who she was, but I completely agree that a lot of the lighter hearted parts of it are a persona.

I just LOVE the editing in these shorts. The way you use the split screen to show all of the characters, mirroring the same character, use the top vs the bottom of the screen to illustrate different scenes, it's so much effort that just adds so much to the breakdowns you're giving us.
And then the bomb on his back is like a foreshadowing with what's going to happen with Caitlyn. You can never tell when Jinx's game is going to become lethal because she's so erratic, so originally you see the bomb on the bartender's back and you think he's dead (just like the platter teaser in the finale with Caitlyn). But it's just a misdirection. Jinx seems to like those.

I like your analysis a lot but i really don't see how you can call her behaviour flirty. It's playful and mischievous, of course, but there is nothing that indicates any interest in the bartender from Jinx's side. Honest question: If Jinx were a guy, would you still call the behaviour flirty?

I didn't read her as flirty either... Seems like a stretch imo. Playful? Yes. Teasing? Yes. But it didnt feel it was sexually or romantically loaded.
"You're doing great" and randomly hugging someone isn't flirty in my book. I thought the purpose of the hug was to plant the prank bomb on his back.
Also noone ask who is this guy. Why HE afraid of her so much? Thing is it was him in episode 1 chasing Powder from the street fight when Powder lost their stuff. Her bomb didn't work back then. And now this conversation ends up Jinx set a bomb on him that didn't work.

One think that stayed consistend for every character, no matter how much they changed after the time skip, is the form of the face, but if he is supposed to be the same character then his face changed completely.
just rewatched that part of episode 1, theres no way theyre the same person. although i wish it were because that would just be one of those fun easter eggs that you'd get on the second or third rewatch lol.
I compared the 2 people and honestly l don't think they're the same person. They just look to different to be the same. With every character in the show even though they aged you could still tell who was who.
I like how the bartender serves her what looks to be the same drink in the same cup that Vander gives her. She must’ve requested it specifically often enough throughout her life

Gee... I've wondered the same, but I've come to the conclusion that just wouldn't work.
At least according to the Jinx we've seen in Arcane, she's still stuck in a child-like mentality. Even if she didn't push them alla way with just how (real talk) mother-fucking-scary, she is, I still think the idea wouldn't simply compute in her mind.
And if by any reason, it did, it would be EXTREMELY toxic and just overall... bad.

Jinx "grenaded" the bartender as an act of revenge, she took it personally when he explains to her that "its just a saying". Also I love the direct scene comparison in your video.
It would be cool to see a video where you try to explain what exactly Jinx is in relation to Powder. I See her as a nasty facade (or "walls") Powder is putting up in front of people (except Silco) and to a certain extend even herself (she literally argues with her feelings of guilt and inferiority, which are represented by Mylo and Claggor) in order to protect herself. She has been doing this for so long, that this Jinx persona has gradually but not yet completely replaced Powder over the years.
It's way deeper than that, arcane is very symbolic

TBF to Powder, SHE didn't kill Vander. Yes, her monkey bomb directly killed Claggor and Milo. But Vander survived the explosion. It was always Silco that caused the chain of events that 'killed' Vander. Powder was just along for the ride. Vi blamed Powder, but Silco was after one or all of them all along. It was a trap, they were doomed.
The scene when Jinx "sneezes" is hilarious, I laughed until I was crying

Another example of Arcane's beautiful foreshadowing. Her being at the bar the same way she was as a kid is kind of foreshadowing Silco's accidental death. Powder being at Silco's bar now, the exact same way she was at Vander's is while creepy because she killed vander, also foreshadowing for her killing Silco now that it's his bar. It's also interesting how she accidentally kills both Vander and Silco.
I think jinx just constantly mirrors her past self... Showing that she is still subconsciously connected to her old self and never outgrew the little girl she was

Never really considered her "flirty" in this scene. She's just taking maximum advantage of how uncomfortable "Chuck" is with her. I got more the feeling of "Oh *insert your preferred word here* it's the crazy bosses daughter who can do anything she wants and I can't do anything about it" vibe from him more than anything else. But yeah Jinx most definitely leans into her "craziness" as a persona too.
Also I found it more sad than creepy that she's doing the same thing she did as Powder. The show suggests that Vander really only had a close relationship with Vi, so you would think this would have been a bonding thing between Powder and Vander. The fact that she's still doing this as Jinx to me suggests that it was something she enjoyed and continues to do so, very likely as a routine, but did not considering as something "exclusive" to Vander - that she feels this routine is more comfort for her and his role in it was insignificant. Very similar to memories and routines I had/have with my dad.
Powder/Jinx didn't intend for the bomb to work like how it did. She was counting on it being unstable. The reason why it worked like how it did was because it was made stable. She had no way of knowing that.

When I watch this scene i always think about how technically her smoke bomb would send shrapnel into that guy's back.
Could be a casing design that basically turns into powder upon explosion. Kinda like how 40mm chalk rounds sometimes just explode into powder when fired.

also when she breaks character her toy is stuck on her straw like shes getting a grip on what's going on but the toy loses it grip when she goes back into character

I always saw this as the Powder persona leaking through, I imagine as a kid Powder would often sit at that bar to think often getting dadvice from Vander and now as an adult she sits hoping to get direction from whatever guy happens to be tending the bar as a substitute Vander. That’s why she’s constantly egging him on like “You’re doing great Chuck!” He’s playing into her fantasy of Vander still being around to give her advice.

I really like jinx as a character both in Arcane and regular league. She is genuinely insane but it’s like split personality because occasionally some of the things she does are completely sane, so unlike some wildcard insane characters she’s even more of a wildcard because occasionally she’s just a normal person
Never forget, Jinx didn't get her Ultimate Attack until the 6 episode of the show as Jinx (Episode 9, technically, but she was Powder the first 3 episodes)
Ok, but she didn't kill Vander. Not only because he's still alive, but even in the explosion she caused, he was ok. He was injured, and then used shimmer to become a freaking monster, but it kept him alive and able to fight to save vi. Also, he's still alive now, he's just not vander anymore lol

Vander isn't dead, he's Singed's new experiment
The message is like “I can kill you anytime and you wouldn’t notice, just like I did to my father, so better be honest to me” and she randomly puts inoffensive bombs around and you can’t tell if it’s your last breath or another awful joke as a warning
After all these years I've also noticed that she's somewhat acting out what she thinks happened. Being kinda and nice and vulnerable, only to blow up Vander with something thought to be harmless.
He stands where Vander did, and the only difference is that she's now grown and instead of using something harmless to deal damage, she can make something deadly be harmless when she needs it to be. Same bar, same cup, "same" orb, same chomper, same positions, different people. She even has the hextech orb on her mind, but she knows exactly what it does, as it's IN her own drink as she knocks it around with the straw.
I see it less as a personal and more of an alternate personality that powder is in condition fight against so she can regain her power wich explains the glitches... this is what she actually sees everytime she has an episode
Nice video! And there's another thing about this scene: it's the second time we see Jinx has poor social skills, she makes awkward jokes and comments, she doesn't understand sayings, so, obviously, she has no friends and she probably doesn't talk to people much except to her father.
