I remember the intense hate that the film received when the film was first announce and then, after the first trailer dropped. I couldn't believe that these nitwits were hating on this film so much and the fact they haven't seen the film made it worse. Now, while I did enjoyed the performances of ladies and I like some of the visuals, some of the jokes don't land and villain was flat and uninteresting.

This is a great video! I completely agree with your view. I am a life long Ghostbusters fan. When Ghostbusters (2016) came out, I legit was just happy to be back in the Ghostbusters universe again! I couldn't believe the response from the fan community and I felt like I should be ashamed that I enjoyed it as much as I did. That said, I wish it had have been a sequel (like the new ones) and I found the humour very hit or miss. But admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Kristen Wig's brand of humour and I don't love Melissa McCarthy either. However, Kate McKinnon steals the freakin show. My inner child found it really empowering to see a kick-ass, weird, brilliant Ghostbustin' babe!!😍And I was wonderfully surprised by Chris Hemsworth's ditzy secretary character. It was beautiful to look at and quite the experience in theatres (I managed to go in DBox!). I'm just glad to see this movie getting a little love rather than all the disproportionate hate.

I thought it was fine. The response was blown out of proportion at the time. Holzman was the best character though.
What happened to Leslie Jones was reprehensible. That stuff makes me ashamed of being a part of nerd culture/fandom.

My nephew loves the 2016 Ghostbusters! I personally don't like it, but I don't think it deserves all the hate it gets.

When this film came out I gave it a chance I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it I complete get what they were trying to do but clearly it took a shot and it missed but I think it is beginning to get the appreciation.

This film is a little underwritten in places, and is very mainstream Hollywood, so somewhat dumb...BUT, it is no more dumb or underwritten than a whole slew of other films which are subjected to nowhere, NOWHERE near as much spittle flecked vitriol, and knee jerk hatred, as this. Ghostbusters 2016 has some very funny moments, actually, and I quite liked it for what it was.
Further, for anyone to say that sexism didn't play a part in the reception of this film is just ridiculous, laughable. It's not the whole story of course: the 'all pile on' nature of the internet also played a part, as well as changing aspects of a well loved franchise...but those things cannot explain the full intensity of revilement on display at this film.
Like yourself, I await my own 'pile on' moment, for daring to opine any of this.

thank you for your review! i also remember all the backlash from the film but mostly the iconic vine LOL it's the first thing that comes to mind! i'm very new to the ghostbusters fandom, frozen empire has roped me into a rabbit hole and i kind of love it lol!!! if you ever review frozen empire id love to hear your thoughts! havent seen the ghostbusters 2016 film but i think it probably fell flat for a few reasons, but definitely a lot of hate from nonfans is surely rooted in misogyny. anyway thank you for this fun and informative watch :D

I could have taken or left the plot, but frankly I would have loved a chance to sit down with these ladies for another 2 hours someday. Especially Holtzman.

One thing I loved about this movie, and I do LOOOOOVE this movie, is that it wasn’t afraid to humanize the ghosts as former people. I feel like the more you do that, it’s a VERY brave move. That’s something that Extreme Ghostbusters did and I loved it.
In this movie, there was Rowan, Gertrude Aldridge, and others. What they did with Rowan was super gutsy to do and took a HUGE risk, and I feel that it’s often overlooked that he unalived himself to become a ghost.
I love the jokes in the movie, the characters, the wacky science behind it, and the risks that it took.

I watched it Once before Afterlife came out and I have an unpopular take..I like it a fraction more than Ghostbusters 2. Some of forced “quirky” humor got on my nerves and I hated how they treated Chris hemsworth, he was written worse here than Thor love and thunder. But I love Kristen wiig snd Melissa McCarthy. But I gave the film a 2.5/5

Personally, I never saw the reboot. My problem wasn't that the cast was all female - I think we need to be in more action movies as the main characters. My issue was that I'm attached to the original cast for nostalgia reasons.
I think it would have been better had they been a different branch in a different city, or in a different part of the US, but came up w/ a similar idea independently.

I watched this just recently and absolutely loved it. And I'm a huge fan of the original. I also hadn't know about the negativity surrounding it and it honestly shocked me. You said it well, completely agree 🤩

I remember the first trailer was terrible, but I thought the movie itself was a lot of fun. I've honestly never been a big fan of the originals (blasphemy, I know), and I had pretty low expectations going in, but I ended up really enjoying myself.

OMG, I always loved this one and honestly started to doubt myself! It's not perfect but some stuff is so good. I think it's funny and the best to me is the subversion of the dumb blonde in form of Chris Hemsworth.

My pretty gothy hubby and I saw this movie out of sheer spite for Those Guys and their braying. It was fine. I mean, Ghostbusters 2 exists and that did waaaaaay worse things to the franchise. The pink slime movie shut down the franchise harder than the pink girl germs haze the sad whiny dudes on the internet decided to see this film through.

The only good thing about this movie is that they invented some pretty cool gadgets and weapons. Thats it.
They made a point out of making the four ghostbusters women and not a mixed gender cast. They made every single male in the movie either a misogynist, stereotypical incel or unreasonably stupid. The script was a direct ripoff of the original movie, but done much worse. The ghosts all looked like they were made out of neon put under a blacklight. Not even remotely believable.
The original casts cameos just underlined that it is THEM that we want to see and Bill Murray especially, made me personally say Fuck You to the screen; the dude had refused to make GB3 for decades and even shredded Dans scripts and sent it back to him. But now, when it got ruined, he shows up as a whole fleshed out character. I wanted to slap him for that.
The womens lines were horrible because they mostly consisted of riffing and not actual written dialogue and it showed. The end fight was horrible, the giant ghost was nothing but a ripoff of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and the dancing was just incredibly cringeworthy.
The movie was an attack on men in several ways; mainly by its portrayal of all the males in it, but also by taking a classic movie that was made for a male audience and holds a special place in the hearts of those of us who grew up with it, and pissed all over it. It made all the actors in it look stupid for having agreed to be in it; and apart from the guy who plays the villain, I like all of those actors and they usually make far superior movies than this piece of crap.
(And no, Im not an incel. Im a gay man, married since 2008 to a man who works for a government agency in Sweden and we're raising two adopted sons, ages 8 and 12, and Im working as a psychologist at a prison for sexoffenders.)
