This is absolutely incredible. We do up Halloween big time at my house. Last year, I REALLY wanted the hearse they had at Home Depot. So expensive though.. I figured I'd MAKE one instead. lol. All totaled it probably cost more than the plastic one. But it was a fun build. My son, this year, said. "we should make a mausoleum!".. lol. This'll probably be a project for next year. Thanks for the inspiration.
@@HollywoodHaunter Oh.. mine is definitely better. lol. When I was putting it up in the yard, the house across the street from me had an open house. I had dozens of people looking at it and asking me questions about it. TWO older people who grew up in other countries both recounted stories of how their parents/grandparents were carried to their final resting place in a hearse that looked very much like mine. I'll take that as a supreme compliment.
Holy smokes! I would die to have one of these in my backyard! Looks so Hollywood professional! It would probably cost about a thousand to diy but about $20k thousand to buy online or at one of the large Holloween haunters conventions like Transworld or Midwest.
That's so awesome and how well it fits in with the Winchester Mystery House! The Zombie acting "That's how I am getting out of bed in the morning" LOL... except... yep, unfortunately, I get what you're saying there!
@@HollywoodHaunter One word.... "Chiropractor" LOL, but seriously, that's a sincere suggestion. I go 2 or 3 times a week and get a "tune up" At least I'm only 1/2 a zombie getting out of bed... LOL
Looks great guys! I have a quick pneumatic question, when ever you use pneumatics where do you put the loud compressor? This is my first year using it and I don’t want to upset the neighbors haha
If you pick up some 50' hoses you can hide the compressor in your house or in a shed. Then you can run the airlines out where ever you need them. We also use extra storage tanks out in the yard and I think that helps the compressor not kick on as much.
Love this channel and you guys really make the season so special. In college about three years ago y’all’s videos helped me a lot when I was taking sculpture and design classes because of the techniques and materials used.
If you guys want to level up your faux patina metal effect, you should check out Modern Masters Metal collection. There’s iron, copper, bronze, and gold. I think you’ll love it!
My God! You do great work!! Wow. My first thought.. lol was I’d love to cover the outside of my SHED this way! 🤣 I could *never* do it like you though. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This is your best build yet. Love how you hid a lot of the joints to make it break apart for transport storage and the paint job on the doors was excellent. Congrats
Thank you Jimmy ya that is one thing we have always tried to do is either hide or incorporate the seams of the walls into the design. I think it really helps sell the scene.
OMG!!!!! That end result is amazing they totally look real!!! Congrats on the channel's anniversary you guys!!!! I can proudly say I get all your references as I've been watching from the get go and boy oh boy time does fly!!!!
I have always really enjoyed watching all your video's you both are very very talented set builders but what I enjoy more is watching two...er three of you who really love each other and love what you do. just for the record a few years back when you were on TV for the best home haunt I thought you guys won hands down, the GROUP that won had an army of workers and what the two of you did was amazing!! You don't have to ever worry about where life will take you as long as you have your beautiful family. Thanks for all the incredible inspiration you have given so many haunters and more important showing so many people what a true loving couple can accomplish. God bless your family and future!
Another thing to dry on the foam to retain the chipped brick-like texture is elastomeric roofing paint. Its what the pro’s use on foam monument signs. They spray it on. In fact, visiting a foam monument sign company might give you some really good ideas for future builds.
Thanks Vic that's very kind and we appreciate you sticking with us over the years. You have made so many awesome projects already and like us I'm sure you pick up new things and learn new tricks along the way. It's nice when we can create things that intrest us. You guys ALWAYS create such quality products!! I love it! They always look amazing! I feel like my facade is put together with bubblegum and duct tape compared to your builds!! Love it guys keep it uo
Beautiful work as always !! Man that turned out great and i love all the techniques you guys use .... question ... why do you use the 1x3 for the walls just curious ? Thanks for sharing as always HFL!!
Thanks Deoblo we appreciate that very much. We use the 1x3 because its wide enough to help stand the walls in place and still very lightweight to carry and lift. You can set up most of this stuff alone with no problems. It's also how all the wall flats for studios are made so its just habit and comfort at this point. Great to hear from you hope you're doing well.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw you guys on that ABC Halloween decorating show. Which you were robbed btw had you guys had a ranch you’ve went all out. I am still curious where you find the wiper mechanism. We want to do this haunted prop where the books are moving in a book case. Have you considered renting out the props for a month or auctioning off old prop? It would be cost effective especially for some of us on a budget and lack of creative space.
Thanks we appreciate that. You can get a wiper motor on amazon as well as a power supply or you can also order a kit on Frightprops. I want to make a bookcase as well some day but they can be a pain to dial in. Renting out is a great idea we have talked about maybe some day.
Wow that is so amazing work. I wished I lived closer to you guys as I'd love to pay to have you make me some cool Halloween props. I'm at the top of California near Oregon on the coast. I've been to Winchester Mystery House a few times and it was fun. I can see why they would want you to make their props. Great job! And your family is so adorable.
Hey man, I'm not the biggest on Halloween, but I am really glad I found your channel because I am pretty big on fantasy style decorative architecture and your videos are really good.
I love watching you guys make Halloween. Especially this year since we are doing a renovation/ addition and don’t have time to build myself. Also you guys need to be sponsored by great stuff😂
😆 That's funny well I guess we could reach out to them and see. I tell you we would both rather be renovation an addition to a home we owned way more than Halloween stuff. Sounds so great. Thanks for writing.
lol, something i’ve always wondered - how do you keep your styrofoam mess under control? is it all over your yard? and house? the static electricity of it is always terrible for me!
so yes and no, normally what we try to do is using a shop vac we vacuum up the beads as we go so it doesn't get our of hand but if I slack on that and leave it over night yes it starts to get all over.
Really like that idea of making that stuff but by the way where are you going to store that when Halloween is over because that thing is huge I hope everything goes well on that thing you're making good luck
Imagine building a House you could live in with these Techniques. Old vid, but like the 10th one this year that had a discussion about fake rivets.... OMG guys, I wish I knew this was such an issue before this year because... UPHOLSTRY TACKS!!! They're those fake rivets you see on furniture that hold the fabric on! A little glue, press, done! I've been using them for a decade now and they even make some that look like they are made of hammered iron, copper, bronze, brass, etc and even fancy ones for a more fancy, Victorian Gothic look! Also check out Clavos caps and cap nuts (used to top fence posts) for large rivets.
Honestly the key to a beautiful copper patina is abusing different types of texture in your paint. Start with a very bright metallic copper, like should blind people its so reflective. Then knock it back with a black/brown wash because water and grime will pummel real copper long before the oxidation process kicks in. At this point your bright penny should look nice and dull with patchy shiny spots still. Next take a flat teal that skews aqua green and mix in some baking soda. This will thicken it up and simulate a chalky caked up effect that happens in a heavily moist and humid environment (say like new orleans). Copper develops a patina to protect itself from decaying, so it will be thickest in areas where water would pool, streak, or where birds might gather. I would layer in drip streaks of mint and maybe a bright blue as well, but copper can rurn red, black, green, teal, mint, colbalt, and even violet or lavender so have fun experimenting! Bright copper, dull brownish black wash, and streaks of powdery crumbly blues and greens. Will look epic every time. 👍 *steps off soap box*

For a Granite speckled look spray an airbrush against a paint stick and let the black and white paint spatter hit works well.
