  • Should you choose Managua Nicaragua as a destination for a city walking holiday? Is #walkablecity through #Managua #Nicaragua a good way to see the city? Not a walking tour today, but we'll get more of Managua in the future.

    Another good informative video. But I'd like an episode of all the bad stories. The robberies.The close calls or dealing with corrupt cops. The episode with genEric you mention that gringos shouldn't get drunk and roam around the central area of Leon. That sucks. My trip to Nicaragua involves alot of drinking and roaming around. Maybe more stories of older guys who married young girls and then got swindled. Not trying to be negative, but sometimes misfortunes make for good entertainment. And lessons to be learned. Thanks Scott

    Excellent video and your explanations are SPOT ON but I wish that you could have explained WHY Managua is this way. The answer is two fold, but I will answer that shortly. I was born there and left in the mid 80s. I've visited on three occasions and the last time was a year ago. Granada is the best of the best, but San Juan Del Sur is great if you love the ocean. Los Robles and Villa Fontana are great, specially for walking, but I prefer Los Altos de Villa Fontana better (up the hill). It is much cooler and more forest but you need a car unless you get reliable transportation like a camponera (Tuk Tuk) that can pick you up. Walk around Downtown Lake Front area (old downtown) during the day and that's about it. Why? It has to do with the 1972 earthquake (and the trauma from the 1938 earthquake as well) and because the leaders of the political party that took over 7 years later were not from there so they did not have a love toward "La Vieja Managua" (Old Managua) to rebuilt it as such, so the city vibe died then. There were old broken down buildings still up all the way through the 80s. The Santo Domingo area is also great, both by Carretera Masaya (Highway 4) or downtown, lots of shops and malls. I hope this help.

    I, too, have traveled around a lot of countries, and I prefer to WALK when on vacation. On my son's first trip to Mexico City we walked a total of over 22 miles the first full day, from 6am to 11 pm... it was awesome. Having looked at the limited videos of Managua, and having almost no google-earth photography top rely on, I am disappointed. It kind of reminds me of a human version of a poorly-kept strip mall... miles and miles of just utter repetition that does little to entice a look-see. When I come in a few months I will have to be in Managua for a few days to take care of some pre-move business, but except for maybe the things to see around La Bolsa, I don't see much that interests me... especially on foot. All I want to do is get on the bus and go to Jinotega and get to know the area. In fairness to Managua, I hate DC even more and it is less safe!

      It's really all because of the earthquake. It's just not a walkable city.

      @@ScottAlanMillerVlog I went to Ometepe and didn't like it at all. Dark water with dead fish on the shore. I went there to cure my foot that got burned by stepping in lava mud and in Ometepe, it wasn't hard to keep away from water!! On a real beach, i just couldn't and i couldn't cure my foot. My fault if I got burned. I went outside the marked pad . It could have been much worst.

      @@juancarlosurtecho9535 i went there knowing nothing about the place. Maybe that's why I saw nothing particular making worth to go. I drove around and saw nothing. But it's a special feeling to be at the bottom of a volcano ....I knew nothing about laguna Apoyo and I liked it. I knew nothing about Somoto canyon and it was something I will remember. Im probably the only tourist ever to have swam it naked !. I went to cascadas de luna and it was nice. Ometepe would have needed some research because it wasn't obvious.

    Dude Managua is way safer than Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula..
    Nica is safer than honduras , guatemala or even el salvador.having said that,
    Ciudad Sandino and Bario san judas are a no go .
    The rest is cool. Just hang out during the day...no moonlight strolls 😂

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  8 місяців тому +2

      I do Ciudad Sandino all the time. I have friends and employees there. My employees have enough financial resources to live anywhere, including SJDS (or Costa Rica for that matter) but won't leave CS because they like it. It's got good food and shopping now. So much going on there, it's incredible. It's an quickly gentrifying area.
