My god, this is so true. I lived with my American family till I was 12. It was quite the transition living in an Assyrian household. All of my friends were criminals. Books that were non fiction were banned. I also didn't speak the language very well, so my grandmother's proudest moment was when she insulted me to her friends and I insulted her right back in Assyrian. I swear she had an immediate glow with angels singing behind her. The everybody being related part didn't hit me till I was going to ask out this girl and I walk downstairs and her grandmother was sitting in my living room. Those women are psychic.
