Ned, Thank you for sharing this incredible film short! As a New Yorker, seeing and hearing major NYC (and national) show business personalities of the early 30's hanging out at the Biltmore Hotel (Madison and 43rd St) is an absolute treat. The Biltmore was an elegant hotel right up to its unfortunate end about 1981. I remember going there for drinks after work in the 70's right to its end in 1981. Would have loved to hear the Whiteman orchestra perform live (with Ramona). Paul Whiteman's orchestra is one of my favorites. I especially like his Victor "concert orchestra" recordings. Hearing Winchell's patter is hearing how native New Yorkers sounded of my grandparent's generation. That generation was still around in my youth and as a teenager and young guy in my 20's, loved hearing their memories of that time. My first boss in the 1970's (a lawyer) represented Arthur Tracey starting in the 30s. All the best.

Wow! What history you experienced! I’m speculating your grandparents were born around the 1910’s?

Thanks a million for this 1932 Universal short film with legendary columnist and newscaster Walter Winchell and bandleader Paul Whiteman at the Biltmore Hotel in NYC. If this is not a true gem, I'm not sure what is. Also, nice to see the post-Bing Crosby Rhythm Boys doing the things Crosby, Al Rinker, and Harry Barris used to do before the latter three made it to Hollywood.

Interesting to see Harry Goldfield conducting while Pops presumably schmoozes the guests in the room.

When I view clips from this era,it's like being on a weird acid trip, even weirder than the psychedelic ones.

Rank on trombone and Charles on alto sax, good eye! And could that be Andy Secrest on trumpet behind Fulton? He works the coda to Sylvia with a note of muted melancholy.

Ednay, how are you? My name is Rackham and Im from Montevideo, Uruguay. You know, im a really big fan of Paul Whiteman and this footage that you upload is incredible to me, it really makes me see what is was like, and it is like a dream come true to me. Not joking, i absolut love this genius´s music, in fact, my favourite song is on:¨Sylvia¨. Im trying to download it from youtube i may say, but is comes up in a poor quality. I wanted to ask you, if it is possible, for you to send me this footage in the highest quality by e-mail, is that ok with you? It would be lots to me, Paul Whiteman is one of the top influences in my life. Thank you Ednay!
