Until governments all over the nation take notice and start undergoing maintenance of roads and utilities the country is going to continue to literally collapse. This is not ok.
bleachsanchoblastk - The corrupt politicians in Harrisburg diverted $4.5 billion collected in gas taxes that were earmarked for road and bridge maintenance and instead diverted it to the state police to shore up their salaries, pensions, and benefits. Until politicians are prosecuted criminally, this pilfering of money earmarked for transportation infrastructure will continue.
What I saw was the last inspection report show the bridge was in poor condition. My guess is this will show large amount of corruption in the town that has prevented this bridge from being serviced and the money was miss appropriated.
It would be helpful if the NTSB was as well funded as a military project since the safety of our national infrastructure is critical to homeland safety.

Whether it’s his back, or his hip, or sciatica, he really needed a chair or something. He needed that cane so bad, he couldn’t even put his mask back on a second time.
Take notice. This is what misappropriated tax money looks like. When we pay tax for the maintenance of our infrastructure, is it going where it should? Could this be an alarming wake-up call for missing tax funds, and the consequences that are possible for it? Alongside the investigation by the NTSB (thank you for your hard work), we should expect to see a flow of financial assets that were allocated for this bridge and many others. Failing to see any financial assets allocated to bridge repairs is going to raise concerns for taxation, and the confidence in this city's officials is expected to decline.
If I’m not mistaken, somewhere in the vehicle code requires the speed to be set at 35mph, however it is very rare to have a vehicle cross that bridge under forty, especially a pat bus. I’d say fifty or fifty five is the norm.
I’d Mt more concerned with its weight limit of 26 tons - the tandem bus that was caught in the collapse weighs almost that much by itself! That bridge has traffic jams with busses like that plus tons of vehicles .
@@EstorilEm Bridge weight limits are stated so that a continuous stream of that weight vehicle would be safe on the bridge. In other words, since this bridge weight limit was 26 tons, you should be able to pack that bridge safely with 26 ton vehicles, end to end in all lanes.
Oh and yeah, they have chairs that you can sit upon that will make it so that you are as high up as someone who is just standing. No excuse to make this man suffer. I say this as someone who doesn't need a cane but damn well needs a chair sooner than it looks like I do. Hard to see masses on the bottom of my feet with my nice shoes on.
Didn't a citizen who was walking in Frick Park - under the bridge, a few months prior to the collapse - concerned about what he saw, photograph a totally corroded diagonal support component, and send it to what he believed was/is an appropriate government office/agency, where it was determined that immediate attention to the bridge was not necessary? Shouldn't the government person/people who made that determination be somehow held accountable? Do you think that the old adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" applies?
They're going to dwell over this crumbled bridge for months instead of focusing on other bridges structures to make sure they don't suffer the same fate...
That’s not their job, they respond to accidents and issue findings. The state and federal transportation agencies are responsible for the maintenance of the structures.
The original design of the bridge was flawed the pillars holding up the bridge. The pillars were at an angle for support .there’s a reason to this arch design but it failed. It is not efficient to have the support beams placed at an angle to provide stability.
Metallurgy, looking for fatigue cracking, and why the steel deteriorated so quickly, they can tell if the original contractor used incorrect steel, failed to treat it, etc.
Roadsalt during the winter mate, that and the bridge was probably never designed to carry the loads placed upon it due to increased traffic loads.......Lack of maintenance too........... looks like it never got a lick of paint in it's life
Pro tip on masks the the fogging of one's glasses: You have to get the nose part so that no air is ejected upwards towards your glasses and/or pull the sides of the mask so that there is a small gap where your exhale can escape out the sides and not up toward your glasses.
Chair Homendy, thanks to you and your team for taking on this task. I'm very much looking forward to the reports that the NTSB puts out.
Until governments all over the nation take notice and start undergoing maintenance of roads and utilities the country is going to continue to literally collapse. This is not ok.
Nah they rather keep sending money out the country or spend it on the ViirUs uhh scary

The money appropriated for infrastructure was given to the Pa. State Police instead when they needed it.

Mr. Collins appeared to be in extreme discomfort. I hope next time you can make better accomodation for him.
I bet he's wondering when the blah, blah, blah, is going to end.

thank you for this updated, detailed report as my Son & family live less than a mile from this event.
For the size and width of the bridge, I wonder why the speed limit across it was only 35 MPH.
Because it's a city street and not a highway
35 is the max speed limit for city streets in Pittsburgh.

The army core needs to check the conditions of all bridges again it has been years
Army CORPS (not "core"). 😉
Also, how mean is it to make a man who needs a cane stand. This is why God gave us chairs.

he doesn't "need" it, he uses it to keep from falling over ... too many donuts .. to much pasta .. too much beer
I literally needed a cane for more than a year, but I could stand. That’s why I had a cane. I didn’t have it when I couldn’t stand.

"prevent it from happening again?" you're not doing anything to keep it from happening. nothing is being done to renovate & rebuild bridges.
The NTSB is regularly critical of federal administrations when they don't implement the means and regulations they deem necessary.
A way to raise taxes
wow ... an NTSB clip .. with SOUND ..
I guess its more important for the military to have money than infrastructure in the US.
Bridges esp in snow places should be checked farrrr more often
Never a “thanks for coming”? Always a “bye”?
Applaud your professionalism!
What about the peeps involved. Those peeps matter!

Roadsalt.
Infrastructure bill that President just passed a while back 4 trillion it's for bridge and road work . Brandon Bridge
Oh Lord If I had gone across it my dash cam wouldve gotten it all. Everyone needs a dash cam
the cameras on the bus got it all
Interesting that the mayor Ravenstahl chose to allocate billions towards the police instead of the repairs and infrastructure of the bridges. 🤔🙌🤔
Good PR for an infrastructure bill.
Biden was there for his infrastructure bill the same day 🤔
How in the he'll are you going to put the bridge under a microscope?
You grind it up real fine and use a lot of microscopes.
Using a really big microscope

It’s a metaphor. Don’t they teach you what a metaphor is where you went to school - if you went to school.
A chair is furniture, Madam Chairman.
Are you considering sabotage?

They collect the facts and go where the facts lead them.
Uhh yeah they are welcoming they want they're bridges fixed
home boy is wearing a g string on his face
Mmmmmmmmmiss Homindy...
