It was a pleasure to follow you without blinking and well concentrated so as not to lose detail while you analyzed the HDMI Port and that small 6-pin IC 15JL. Of course the SMPS is also my favorite repair. Excellent repair. A sincere congratulations. Video too long? Naah. I do follow you even if it takes 12 hours doing troubleshooting. You made my day. All the best.
@@ToltecMerc It is always nice when it turns out to just be the first guess! Great video once again! Love the step by step diagnosis and repair process you do!
Thank you! I do appreciate you watching and commenting. I don't have any contribution methods setup at the moment. Perhaps at a later date I might consider it. Thank you though!
2 Things I've learned in this field is ... Every chip thinks it wants to be a Airbourne Ranger & When in doubt add a little leaded solder to pop it out.. :) GREAT VIDEO AGAIN... AS ALWAYS SIR.. haha Thank you for posting this. This will help me with a few head scratchers I have on my bench.
I tend to run my hot air at max airflow and I'm too lazy to adjust it for a quick capacitor change. Sometime I lose the part. It happens. Thanks for watching!
@@ToltecMerc I’m the same way. I keep mine on max airflow and rarely use more than 2-3 temps depending on what’s next in the job log. It took about 6-7 months before I did keep it at max but that was many years ago. Experience & learning that exact station really does play a role in it. I have 2) 1300W stations and they work close enough now that I don’t worry about it. 10 years ago I purchased one with the blower in the handle and it caught fire so I spent the money on a Quick 1000W and never went back. My Quick is a spare now but was always a favorite. The 2 I use now are from Sugon 86DX series. I had one issue and the company sent me a new station instead of the part to fix it. They said here we’ll send you a new one and you can fix the old one if you like. (Blower motor went out after 3 years of 8hr days). I really like your multimeter. Does that one allow you connect to a PC to view realtime readings? (OSD - Live View) I have a bench top MM that uses OSD to record in OBS but it’s a cheaper version. I noticed how fast yours is and the accuracy is awesome. I just need to be able to connect it to OBS.
The AI has digested your video and is now one step closer to singularity. Thanks a lot fellow human. This has got to be one of the best videos out there yet. Really appreciate all the work...
Hi Toltec! I like the long version, very interesting one. What soldering iron do you use with the small knife tip in the video? I got a small soldering pen via usb, but it can’t hold the temperature anymore and I’m looking for a new mini soldering pen, any recommendations? Thank you very much!
It is a QIANLI Mini Solder nano electric soldering iron pen 115. I bought it from AliExpress some time ago. It has worked well for as it heats up very quickly. I keep the knife tip on it and have it set for 400C. It may be sold under other names.
@@ToltecMerc thank you! Actually, that is the one that can’t hold the temperature anymore 😅 well I ordered the quicko t12 soldering station, saw some good recommendations. Thanks anyway
How do you know what to check or test? I want to become good at this, but where do I start? So far, I have just been trying to cover the basics of electrical engineering theory. Components and such. Ohms law. But what order do I do this in?
A knowledge of basic electronics will serve you well. I would suggest you watch others repair items. You will pickup a little knowledge as you go. You will start to learn some of the terms and tools. Keep watching and learning and soon you will pickup some small electronic item and try it yourself. Just start small and build. You may fail along the way but you will learn a little each time.
I got a question about the zener diodes, aren’t they used in reverse to stable the voltage so you would mesure a voltage drop if you measure with red probe on the cathode and black probe on anode(?), so you shoul measure in reverse a voltage drop and in forward (+ =anode ; - = cathode) you should have near zero resistance? No voltage drop? Edit: I just saw a graph, forward bias you also have a voltage drop till the diode allows current to flow
Zeners will conduct in both directions after a threshold is exceeded. Normally 0.7V in the forward direction and some greater voltage in the reverse direction according to the diode. Normally, multimeters can't measure the reverse voltage as they don't output a high enough voltage to turn on the diode in the reverse direction. When the diode fails, though, it can usually be detected with a multimeter.
around min 28 when you checking in diode mode and registred that voltage 1.5 V , it is so because your meter in diode mode is actually a constant current source altough limited to 1.5 or 3V depending on the meter ,the point is there is a path to ground and because of that the meter is sourcing current through it , i call it a PARTIAL SHORT and because it is partial and not a full short then it has a few ohms or tens of ohms , now having a few ohms means IF you inject a 1volt on that rail you will have a thermal signature and easy to see on a thermal camera , on the other hand if you have a full short you will need lots of amps to see it and probably damage the pcb in the process
Hey bud, do you do any b2b prices? I have a real head scratcher ps5. I checked the power supply it reads 12V. Just having issues tracking the short and I’m a little new to microsoldering. I can send only the board if that makes it a better price. Please and thank you! Loved your video! ❤
The supply was making odd noises but my variable AC supply was also making strange sounds. The power supply was drawing current in a strange way. It was causing the variac transformer to vibrate strangely.
Hey Man can i send you my ps5 to repair it would be amazing to see it fix in one of your videos, i can pay you please answer me or tell me where i can privatly contact you!!
Very good work

another nice repair, lightning strike damage always has a major impact on electronics.
Thank you! Lightning can totally destroy electronics simply by striking a tree nearby.
loved the video with all these challanges you had to go through. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

That lost capacitor was on the upper left hand side by the copper through holes
