This is by far the best in the "We race to find ________" series. There were so many highlights here. -Each catching the other's legendary -John finding Rayquaza that Mikey missed all because they happened to live in different time zones -Mikey's never-ending struggle with Miltank -Slash -Mikey's slip-up with his "Godfish" nickname -John's brilliant interrogation over Whiscash's moveset -John's genius deductive reasoning to go back and find the truth behind "Godfish" This was excellent content. I only wish it was longer. Maybe next time you could assign two Pokemon and you only win when you find both.
In hindsight he should have said it was a Gyarados, Godfish would be much more fitting for that than a Wiscash lol, so it would have been a lot more believable. This totally isn’t a biased opinion cause Gyarados is my favorite Pokémon or anything

I think this is my favorite of the John Michael Cup entry. Both of them encountering the others Legend and then the following mind games are great. Not to mention the priceless reactions of absolute panic when they do find the other legend. The boss music sting when it happens is also a fantastic touch. The gender ratios aren't flipped. Marill is 50/50, while Azurill is 25/75 (Male/Female). 1 in 3 Female Azurill change gender on evolution in Generations 3 to 5. They fixed it in Generation 6.

QOTD: Viridian Forest and Santalune Forest are known for having identical layouts, but the similarities between Viridian and Santalune go deeper than that. Both cities are home to the first Gym you will encounter in each respective region, and both cities have three exits- one which leads to a town or city where the region's professor gives you your choice of Kanto starters; one which leads to the aforementioned forest named after the city; and one which leads to Route 22, in spite of where the region's route numbering is otherwise currently at, beyond which lies Victory Road.
QOTD: Rayquaza in oras, had his catch rate to be better than gen 3, cause you have to capture it in order to progress the story. So that's why in the shiny episode john caught the shiny rayquaza.
I mean, he had already gone past that route before it became night time in his game. At that point I doubt he's making a mental note to go back and check just a single encounter rather than just progressing in the game.
Here's a fun fact. Due to type and chart changes, Clefairy and Clefable went from being neutral to karate chop in Gen 1, to weak to it in Gen 2, to resistant to it in Gen 6.

XY and SM were just so heavy-handed with the Gen I references that it was actually sickening. No style, just completely forced.
