The Problem with Learning (or: "Getting the Universe to Cooperate")

  • Learning is a term ubiquitous in educational discourse, but we can't see, touch or manipulate learning directly. We can only measure its final effects. I make the case that learning is indispensable as a term precisely because it is so elusive as a phenomenon. I explore some of the ways that learning both enables and confuses our language and thinking in education.
