Thank you! I watched a tutorial, by one of the "big name" knitters. They start of showing how great it is for hats. But the tutorial was entirely for doing it flat, and didn't even explain how to do it in the round. Your video is so much better!!
Thank you for your very clear and thorough tutorial. This was my first time doing this technique and it was not as intimidating thanks to your video! I also never could find a way to close the gap for my Italian bind off so thank you for that tip as well ❤
Thank you so much! Other videos were using crochet needles and scrap yarn and I was so confused, but this is so much more simple. I've also done this several times because it didn't look right and finally figured out I was twisting my first row of stiches. I wish I had found this video first, it would have saved me so much time and frustration ❤
Great directions! Very clear! Thank you so much. I have been knitting for 30 years, difficult patterns and never encountered this cast on. It is a game changer!
What the bloody hell, man?! You mean to tell me all I should have done was look YOUR video up this whole time?! Jeez, I was frustrated trying to piece together several videos! You had just what I needed! The tubular cast on in the round and the magic loop plus the 2x2. I am subscribed to you on one of my channels, but not this, so now this channel is, too! 😊❤
Starting a new hat using this cast on method. It's a little precarious in the beginning, but once you start doing the double stockinette stitch it gets easier. Thanks Mr. Norman!
yes...i agree and that's why I kind of don't like it. years and years ago when I was first shown this method, the teacher didn't mention that you can join in the round later on as well..my..that was...difficult :(
@@nimbleneedlestwo This tutorial opened a lot of opportunities in my knitting journey. Hopefully you can make a compilation video of bind off techniques and short rows in the future as well!
Hi Norman. Great tutorial! Thank you for showing the variations of the Tubular Cast On and how to graft the stitch when knitting in the round. It came out perfect!
yah, i felt that was particular needed as there's tons of other tutorials on the technique itself but I actually didn'T find anything comprehensive on that topic.
Great tutorial! I'm mentaly preparing for this techniqe for my next sweater. You said clockwise, while it is anti-clockwise, but the explenantion why we do it this way is perfectly reasonable and memorable. Thank you for using contrasting colors in the video and a great sharp closeup - so importaint in tutorials! Greetings from Poland! 💜
ah...well...always mess those up. I just can't wrap my head around left and right and things like that >.< But what I show is always the right way ..sometimes my mouth just runs away ^^
My favorite method, paired with tubular bind off, for necklines, cuffs, etc. I generally use needles 3-4 sizes smaller than the body of work to eliminate flaring.
Thanks a lot. My book is good, but its description of casting on the knit stitch wasnt clear nor supported by a photo, so i was very unsure. Plus the 2x2 version, and the tidying up the loose join stitch in the round were really valuable bonuses.
Thank you for another great tutorial. You always make things seem so much easier! Could you do a tutorial on how to do the tubular cast on with a peovisional row at the beginning? It's a little hard to keep count with the method you are showing and i always end up redoing the first step 3 or 4 times...
Thank you for this tutorial; do you show anywhere how to distribute this cast on to four double points? I'm finding that particularly challenging because the last stitch is so open-ended. I'm pretty sure that you know a way to secure that stitch:)
I think you're turning the needle counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) after casting on. Demo doesn't match the verbal description, but I think anti-clockwise as shown is the right way. Top notch video though, thank you!
well...you can basically do whatever you prefer. However, you are basically knitting double stockinette stitch there. And this has a 2-row repeat. so 3 or 5 leaves it incomplete.
the pattern i’m using (and other videos i’ve seen) say to start with waste yarn. is there a reason you don’t? would this change the need for a smaller needle? are they interchangeable techniques? thanks!
there are multiple ways to knit this cast-on. It's essentially a form of double knitting. So you can start with waste-yarn and pick stitches up again. I find that a bit cumbersome.
A little question on 2x2 cast on in the round, I'm in need of a little clarification. Does it go as follows? 1. 1x1 Italian cast on, then 2 rounds double stockinette, then rearrange stitches for 2x2 rib, THEN join in the round OR 2. 1x1 Italian cast on, then 2 rounds double stockinette, then join in the round, THEN rearrange stitches for 2x2 rib?
there is no or here. You can do both. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Of course, the repeat for the double stockinette will be "different" - once in the round and once knit flat. (the gap will be larger or smaller and thus the way to close it as well)
Hi, for some reason my tail disappears when doing the italian cast on but i cant figure out what im doing wrong, althoigh im trying to make sure i pull and use the working yarn 🤔
Hi Norman Do you have a trick for no curl cast on for stockinette stitch. Tried with an i-cord but still i have to iron press it very hard and it will still like to curl. Sincerely vib
it's not the edge that curls...its stockinette stitch itself...you cannot not let it curl. It's like when you have natural curls (hair)...you can straighten things but at the end of the day it will always bounche back.
well...yes..it's basically the same when you pick up stitches with a crochet hook. You basically just have to identify the right strand to pick up and keep the yarn in back
Thank you! I watched a tutorial, by one of the "big name" knitters. They start of showing how great it is for hats. But the tutorial was entirely for doing it flat, and didn't even explain how to do it in the round. Your video is so much better!!
glad my video could fill in the details

always come back to that video for the part, where you close the tubular cast-on. so helpfull :D

I haven’t either. You go into great detail. Thanks again.🤗😊
Yes, that part about graft was a very nice bonus!
Thank you so much for this video! I usually end up casting on super tightly, so this will be an invaluable tool in my casting on arsenal!
I hope it will be!
Nice recomandation to use neddles one sizr smaller for the tubular cast on !

yeah, that can be a good option - because often a bit of stretchiness is what you want - but not too much ^^
watched several tubular cast on how-to's and this one finally helped me nail it. Thank you
Glad it helped!
Wow, that gives such a tidy edge. Definitely will have to give that a try for my next hat project. Thanks!
definitely do and tell me how it went.
Thank you for this super clear instruction
you are very welcome :)
Ok thanks! I’m going to try tomorrow 😂it looks so complicated but I’ll slow the video down and go step by step
I ALWAYS run to your channel for technique. Love your instructionals and instruction style

well...a lot of people will knit flat for 2 or 4 round and then join in the round to fix that problem.

yah...I know how to do things but verbally I always confuse them :( thank you for noting it tho.
Thank you so much. One question-I did a cable cast on using waste yarn. Why 2 or 4 rows before beginning 1x1 rib? What about 3 or 5 rows?
well...you can basically do whatever you prefer. However, you are basically knitting double stockinette stitch there. And this has a 2-row repeat. so 3 or 5 leaves it incomplete.

Norman is there way to do a tubular cast on for 2@ mitts/socks?
sure...but i'D probably start one at a time and then just slip things together after 3 rounds. I am not sure it's worth the hazzle.

well...yes..it's basically the same when you pick up stitches with a crochet hook. You basically just have to identify the right strand to pick up and keep the yarn in back
Ahh great! I was just making it more complicated in my head lol thank you!
Amazing! Thank you.
When binding off with socks in the round , my last stitch is not connected, how do I prevent this.
you have to graft one stitch nimble-needles.com/tutorials/how-to-graft-knitting-stitches/#more-8529
Mine doesnt look right. I cant read this knitting. I dont know what I did wrong. There is 128 stitches, which coukd have been messed up.
hm...sorry to hear that :(
@@nimbleneedlestwo I started over swtch sized and did better. I'm not sure 128 sts cast on with dark blue yard was a good choice!
