I just bought this book. 😀 I love to sew but am chronically sick. I am think I can make these from my couch bed! I’m SO excited! Thank you for this amazing tutorial.🥰🤗 I have crocheted dolls however I’ve never done anything like this with felt. 😍
Thanks for this tutorial! I just purchased the book but I love that you traced & cut all around the body instead doing each part separately. Makes it so much easier for someone new to sewing!
@@DreamUpArt You are very welcome sweetheart, It made me feel emotional to be honest, its hard when people do not understand, i was emotionally blown away with such a beautiful thought, love and light to you x
Thank you for this great tutorial. I have the book. Only tried one doll. She came out terrible. This definitely gives me inspiration again. I love the special touch you add with heart and gem.
I purchased the book but I'm making a slightly different variation by making the head more proportional. Great idea about tracing the piece as one solid piece. Great idea.
Thank you for this tutorial! This is the best one I have watched. I purchased the book but was having difficulty figuring out how to mark the face the way you did it is so easy. :)
Your teaching style & presentation is excellent! Your explanation is very clear & easily understood! Thanks! Now, I want to go out & buy the book & supplies!
Thank You! I've been trying to make a posable doll for about a month now and it has been driving me crazy because I kept having fabric troubles and couldn't think of a way to get the body inside the fabric! I never would have thought to put the pattern together to cut it out...definitely one of those face-palm moments! Your dolls are adorable! I cant wait to try it myself.
THIS IS SO AMAZING!!!! I was thinking about making dollies for my sweet girls for Yule gifts and ohhhhh your voice is so relaxing. and this is informative without frills. You make this look so easy! I officially need to try doll making. Plus the crystal heart I thought you would sew them in her hair! The heart is way cooler than hair accessories!😍 Thank you for making this video💜
@@DreamUpArt well your art is great! Hopefully i don't butcher these dolls and it brings even more joy to my offspring lol💜And awww I'm glad! ☺ blessings dear!
You know the tutorial is legit when there's a beheaded walrus with a cute pink hat above the whiteboard. but for real, Thanks for the tips, the idea at 2:46 of just drawing dots instead of the whole pattern never occurred to me but really helped make my dolls neater ^_^
Great tutorial! I borrowed this book from the library. Just wondering why it suggests hand stitching the main outer edge of the doll instead of machine stitch..? Could I cheat and do that instead?😁 I am going to try this with Calico..the main body parts. Also, does it really matter what thread is used? Can i use my normal sewing cotton? tnx👍 Elaine
I think it could probably work just as well in Calico and cotton thread, though the hand stitching on this goes pretty fast and gives it a lovely handmade charm you don't often see in machine sewn projects. Many, if not all, of Shelly's patterns seem to use felt and hand stitching. I would bet that's probably either out of her personal preference (for that lovely handmade feel) or to make the patterns more accessible to people new to the craft (and who might not own a sewing machine.)
Thanks, I think I'll try both methods and materials. Such a neat little pattern, I'm so excited. You're right, it is special that it's handmade..Thanks again!!👍
Thanks for this tutorial! I got most my materials now to start my project. Just want to know how if I can make the arms posable too using this pattern?
Are you using the My Felt Doll book by Shelly Down? The book explains a way to attach the arms that allows them some movement at the shoulder joint. I found this to be posable enough for my purposes, so I didn't add wire to the arms. If you want to wire the arms to make the elbow joint posable, you would need to include the arms in the modified pattern, and increase the length of the armature wire so it can go into the arms.
what total length of the wire do you use for the doll. Thanks love this tutorial! I had made a doll per book instructions and her head wasn't stable. I think this will be a breeze.
I didn't know there were different types of felt, so I had to look it up! From what I'm reading, 100% wool felt is soft, and synthetic felt and felt blends are hard. Shelly recommends 100% wool felt for these projects in her book. I found this type of felt difficult to source locally. And though I did finally find some, I was very unsuccessful using it in this particular project. I ended up getting some synthetic/wool blend felt, and it worked much better for me.
I attached the arms separately running a thread through the doll. They won't bend at the elbow because they're not wired, but the shoulder "joint" allows the arm to be rotated.
Hi Sharon, thank you for your comment. The book is by Shelly Down. I purchased mine from Amazon, and there's an affiliate link in my description box above if you want to use that.
I don't know, I never tried to purchase a book when I was in Ireland. Where do you usually buy books? Do you have Amazon? You might want to contact the author and ask her directly -www.etsy.com/people/Gingermelon
Thank you for this tutorial it looks like it’s some thing even I can do I’m not that great at sewing I was going to make an army Kurumi roller skating girl for a friend of mine but I might make it out of felt instead thanks again
That felt should work just fine. I used craft felt for my patterns too, and I found it worked much better than the 100% wool felt I was able to source locally.
It's available in bookstores and on Amazon. There's an Amazon link in my info box. If you can't find it there, you can always try contacting the author on Etsy.
This gets tricky because they're not my patterns. I'm demonstrating the armature using this particular doll, but the book and the patterns belong to someone else.
Someone else asked this recently too. I didn't know there were different types of felt until I looked it up! From what I understand, 100% wool felt is soft felt, and synthetic felt and felt blends are hard. While Shelly (the author) recommends 100% wool felt for these projects in her book. I found this type of felt difficult to source locally. And though I did finally find some, I was very unsuccessful using it in this particular project. I ended up getting some synthetic/wool blend felt, and it worked much better for me. So I think Shelly recommends soft felt, but I used hard felt. Unless I'm completely wrong about the differences between soft and hard felt!

At what point was the middle of the head sewn shut? The video goes from a little triangle cut out to no gap.
this is absolutely adorable. i'm going to make one! thank you :-)

Does the wire skeleton let her sit up on her own without her back up against anything?
i don’t even know how to felt but I’m watching this anyways.
Very nice doll
Very adorable doll. Thanks for sharing. How do the shoes stretch
The shoes are made of felt, so there's a little bit of stretch to them. But mostly, because the feet are soft, they can squeeze into the shoes.
Beautiful, thanks
what total length of the wire do you use for the doll. Thanks love this tutorial! I had made a doll per book instructions and her head wasn't stable. I think this will be a breeze.
If you watch again, she mentions that she used about 26” for her doll. I just cut 30” for mine, and will adjust length after I bend in half and twist
@@laurawindsor1019 thanks
Wow. Your doll is so cute. But, how does this doll stand, won't it fall
She doesn't *really* stand. Shh! She's only standing for the photo.
wait a minute this is the best tutorial I have ever seen in my life but there is one question which is, is it important to put that stuff in the doll?
What stuff? Do you mean the crystal or something else?

No, you don't need to add the crystal.

Hi! This is really nice. Was wondering were you using a soft or hard felt cloth?
I didn't know there were different types of felt, so I had to look it up!
From what I'm reading, 100% wool felt is soft, and synthetic felt and felt blends are hard. Shelly recommends 100% wool felt for these projects in her book. Thank you! She was a joy to make.
Love your tutorial! Does the tack glue from the velum pattern leave any residue on the felt? Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The glue is kind of like post-it note glue. It's dry, but tacky, so it doesn't leave any residue. Great question!
So cute!!!
Thank you!
Material with glue? Name ,pensei. Tecido com cola. Qual o nome, por favor. Hugs from Brasil
Where can one purchase this in Italy
So cut 🥰🥰🥰
When you use the tack it over and over glue does it leave the felt sticky?
No. You need to let the glue dry on the back of the vellum first, then it works like a Post-It Note.
Awwww 🥰 sweet🥰🥰🥰
Amei
Amazing
How are the arm made posable? I mean how you attach them to the body allowing them also to move?
I attached the arms separately running a thread through the doll. They won't bend at the elbow because they're not wired, but the shoulder "joint" allows the arm to be rotated.
