    Double This vs That!
    I feel like the gearbox choice depends on needs. Need dig? Get dig. Need a small one? Get an OD3 or a 2low

    I would guess it's more the size of the pinion/spur combo,and overall tooth count in the gearbox. Even at the same-ish final drive ratio, the physical torque generated by the large spur on the stealth-x should make it feel smoother or less abrupt accelerating and decelerating.
    Just my thoughts, research and experience have led me to more teeth overall is always smoother, and a bigger spur (even with the same ratio) will generate more torque. 🤷‍♂️

    The gruesome twosome! The terrible twins! The… trouple couple? Tomax and Xamot unite!

    More quality content from the Canyon. The Stealth X is a favorite in these here parts of Mythigan. As quiet and smooth sounding as the Tekin is, you could almost convince me it was a Fusion. Of course, for the cost of it and the 1080 it should be. Injora definitely the smarter choice.

    you could put the $16 a pair red or blue fake dravtec skocks on the brothers instead of black

    Hey! Really diggin the "twins" comparison videos. I thought I recalled you having a Holmes "Expert" motor.... Roughly $60ish. Was wondering if you would consider doing a "from the comments" video on the Holmes motor VS. your favorite 540+ ,or in your words "Big Block" motor. It would be cool to see how comparable they are against each other. Sorry I'm a few videos behind. I'm trying to catch up tonight! Lol. Have a good one

    I have a “Dumb” idea. Tires inside out. What has the most ribs and belts? I recently found the stock Capra tires - nitto trail grappler MT are so hard in part due to all the ribs and belts and triangles inside, haven’t driven on them much but I think they might be better than right side out. Have tires with more aggressive ribbing?

    I was just looking at this knockoff od-3 gearbox and well heres a video of it from you lol little late but great timing. Havent watched fully yet but looking forward to what your about to say about it

    It just doesn't make sense to spend a lot on brushed motors anymore. Sucks for the boutique motor makers but I think it's better for us as the tiny truck builders.

    Hey Mr Canyon, did you grease the gears in the OD3, I just picked up one of these on your review, thanks...

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 місяці тому +1

      Overgreased, if anything. To the point where grease was getting pushed out through some of the bearings. Quiet, though!

    Maybe a 1200kv vs 1800kv fusion comparison with them geared to a similar FDR and the same transmissions 🤔

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 місяці тому +1

      The 1200 would be 33% slower. That's the very short of it. 1200 is for straight axles, 1800 is for portals. Then they're roughly the same speed. You can also gear the 1200 up higher (more headroom with lower KV) and you can generally only gear an 1800 down so far.

      I need to go through the 1080s again. It honestly feels like one is at 75% throttle.

    I would love to see a test between the OD3 clone and the 2.low clone. Or just get your opinion between the two, I am building a cheater rig and torn between the two.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 місяці тому +2

      The 2Low is I would say more annoying-- it was clearly designed to fit in a very specific space, and then tends to require more wigglin' and finaglin' to get it mounted. The 2Low in Zoidberg is on a custom plate that tilts the gearbox on all three axes to get it to hit the chassis or interfere with the links/driveshafts. The OD-3 is more straightforward, particularly if you're using a 380 or stubby 540 outrunner. Personally, I also find 18% in the box to be a nicer starting point than leaping straight to 30. The 2Low is a whole lot easy to work on, though. It's definitely a toss-up, mostly determined the ease of fitment in the rig you're working on.

    I wonder, does the motor turn the same direction on both gear boxes? could be that torque twist pushes one car up while the other is pushed down under uphill load (and vice versa on downhill)

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 місяці тому

      They're turning the same direction (both wired same colors to +/-) as they both have endbell forward. Someone had suggested differences in total gear teeth as a possibility, and I'm kinda onboard with that one. Easily double the total teeth in the Stealth X vs the OD-3, even with the (roughly) same FDR. Also, offset outputs on the OD-3 and inline outputs on the Stealth.

    • @steve_beatty

      @@themountain59 What's funny is that vendor ripped the product description from dlux and even left in the part about having titanium shafts and a 7075 housing among other things not true with the copy. Another vendor of the same gear box at least changed that to "hardened aluminum" and steel shafts to better reflect reality..My experience with amazon copies has been dismal and people shouldn't believe for one minute that what they're getting with these IP thefts is "just like the real thing" at 1/2 the cost.....because it ain't generally speaking..🖖🏼

    • @steve_beatty
      @steve_beatty 4 місяці тому

      @@themountain59 not really...you generally get what you pay for..They lifted the product description straight from dlux..except there are no titanium shafts etc....just cheap amazon pot metal.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 місяці тому

      I'll echo in with the "good for them." This is an inevitable byproduct of outsourcing-- does anyone really think that some nameless company in Southeast Asia ordered an OD-3 from Dlux and reverse engineered it? If a company sends a product out to have it fabricated by folks who don't believe that IP is a thing that exists, this is what happens. The Hoocrawler chassis is a carbon copy (no pun intended) of the G-Speed G-Shot. Pretty much every chassis and gearbox on Amazon/AliExpress is a clone of someone else's product-- and those clones exists because a genuine OD-3 plus skid is $180, and the clone w/ skid is $45. That's a quarter the cost. If it's even half as good it's a deal. Same story with the 2Low.
      And please, this is not me defending IP theft. This is me speaking from a position of knowing what things cost-- I've been fabricating and selling parts for 25 years. Clones and ripoffs live inside the margins-- if the gap between sale price and production cost is too wide, clones appear. If someone can turn a profit at $45 all-in, I cast a suspicious eye on the $180 version. Notice there's no HW1080 knockoffs out there? No Stealth X clones? But a myriad of Vanquish beadlock clones?

    • @steve_beatty
      @steve_beatty 4 місяці тому

      @@CrawlerCanyon keep pushing cheap junk then..I can't help but notice that vendor lifted the product info straight from dlux complete with lies about titanium shafts and wonder how truthful the rest is. And you DON'T think it's possible they reverse engineered it ??.🥴..My experience with amazon copies has generally been horrific and I would never wish them on anyone I cared about....

    How do you know if you need a 19T or a 24T or a ..?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 місяці тому +1

      I go by speed at WOT. I try to gear anything with a single-speed to be at or below 5mph wide-open. Lower gearing means more mechanical advantage, so better drag brake, easier on the electronics, etc.
