At 12:55, doesn't the leaf2 still need to process the packet so that user 2 can receive it? Or in other words, how does user 2 receives the packet?

This is already one of my areas to cover. I plan to go through more of the UI than underlying technology. Thoughts? Thanks for the comment 👍

Hi David. Back with another question. We learned the need to configure DF in order to mitigate duplicates & loop (routing or L2). Does DF completely mitigates duplicates?
Let’s consider the same scenario as yours. User 1 sends BUM traffic to all the users in vlan 10. Leaf 1 receives and sends to spine 1 & 2. Spine 1 & 2 in turn sends this to leaf 2 & 3. Leaf 2 drops the BUM packets from Spine 1 & 2 as it is NF (Non designated forwarder). Leaf 3 receives BUM from both spine 1 & 2. Leaf 3 sends 2 BUM packets to server that it received from Spine 1 & 2 each. That means we are still sending 2 BUM packets to server instead of 4 (as leaf 2 dropped 2 packets). Isn’t this still duplicate? Or my understanding is wrong? Correct me and sorry to bug you with too many questions. TIA.

Awaiting for the above clarification @Netcademy, when Leaf 2 receive the BUM traffic for VLAN 10, will that drop only towards the LAG ports alone ? or other ethernet segment ports in vlan 10. If then User 2 will fail to receive that ?

When you mentioned there will be loop why you call it routing loop isn’t it layer 2 loop

Vxlan packets are routed so he’s correct it’s a routing loop the vxlan packets will be removed after the ttl expires

It's a server, there's no loop per se. It would just be receiving its own bum traffic. If that was a dual attached network device such as a switch then it'd definitely be a loop. And melt the network
