Unpacking more boxes and sorting out random boxes of stuff on our minimalist journey. But when I'm done unpacking and decluttering, life feels simple again. Simple living is intentional and purposeful but we still live among boxes in our house. We have 65(ish) boxes left to unpack and decide what to keep, what to donate, what to sell, what and how to declutter.

You can save a lot of time if you have labeled plastic tubs already lined up as you sort.Examples: Boy’s winter4T,summer4T,winter5T,summer 5T,etc.etc.You won’t have to resort later and if one tub ends up being particularly skimpy, you’ll know what to be on the look out for.
Yes - that's how I finally got our stuff under control for my two boys when they were little.
I do that except I don't sort by summer/winter. I can't imagine having to sort all the clothes every time the kids changed sizes!
Best technique. Saves double handling items.
Thinking same thing
Awesome idea. inspired :)
I relate so much to your face when Andy said he's keeping the book he never read. My husband hoards all the books!
This comment is not helpful for you 😉but i Hope These Boxes Never ends…… i Love the way you declutter 😂😂
Yes! 😂.
XD
😂
Here's a tip if you have kids close together. Use a sharpie to put 1 dot on the label for your eldest. As SOON as they outgrow it, if you decide to keep it, add a dot to show it is now for the second child. Even if you are putting it straight in their drawers, just add that dot. It is so useful for sorting washing in a daze, when you can't remember which child that top goes to now! Third child, a third dot. Etc. Best tip I was ever given - enjoy!
I don t know why these are so fascinating, but they are! Andy is definitely more of a sentimental hoarder than you are now!
My hubby and I cleaned out the LR closet. He got upset with me for tossing a scrap of paper that my daughter's BFF had doodled on! (they are graduated and busy with their lives now and don't see each other much) He asked me if I'd lost my sentimentality! I am donating the coat it was in. Ugh!
Andy is definitely a sentimental hoarder 😉 but as he watches ericas progress maybe he will progress too.
always a pleasure when The Mister joins ... my husband is now joining in, too, when I pick an area or box or shelf or drawer to declutter - it's fun! I actually LOVE seeing what he keeps and hearing why, even though he tends to keep 95% and I tend to (want to) declutter 95% (grin).
If I say "honey we need to declutter some of your stuff," he'll dig in his heels and refuse. If I hand him a box and say "I bet you can't find 10 things you can get rid of," he's all game because now it's a challenge. 😃👍🏻
Wish my Husband would
@@AZHITW - ooh, great idea! make it a competition - that's what works with my hubs (he's an athlete - has to win :) )
Great job! One bite at a time, huh?! Andy is a kick! And Erica, I love how you don't nag Andy to get rid of things. I've been working on that. 😬
@Julie Wright - I've been working on that, too -- have learned to NOT TO QUESTION why Circle K receipts from 2007 might be needed some day - hahahahaha! And have determined I'll never understand why the most broke down, busted out, hole-filled sweat pants or old sports shorts are the best jammies for my husband. Accept. Accept. hahahahaha.
Me too!! I wish I had a relationship like that. Andy is helping and supporting her. And she supports him. Just the way a marriage should be!
Hi Erica, I have been binge-watching all your decluttering videos over the past few days. It is nice getting to know you and your family!
I'm going to make my husband watch this so he feels understood - I love how Andy is repeating all the child sizes and double checking! My husband thinks I have some magic powers to keep all these sizes in my head but when he pitches in, he gets it. After lots of double checking!
Yes to everyone saying LABEL as you go! Label the walls where your stacks are...label the tubs. Go label crazy! It doesn't have to be fancy...just neat writing on a post-it with clear tape so it doesn't fall off. Keep up the great work!
What is the shortest time you have ever had between moves? Will this be the first time that you completely unpack all boxes before moving again? Love your channel.
❤️ the channel. Thank you for the extra motivation. And thank you Andy for commentary, and facial expressions. You are one funny guy 😁
Andy is hilarious they way he just looks at something, comments on the item and then tosses it into a box or bin. Let's hope it makes it in 😂😂
I love how your husband is involved! I do everything myself!
I don’t understand HOW you are still going through stuff. I thought you went through everything at the other house? Like how do you still have 3 baby carriers? Keep going! Doing great.
I was thinking the same thing
Thinking back, Erica worked on the lounge, toys and homeschooling stuff, her clothes and jewellery and maybe the current season of kids clothes. There was still a lot on the crawlspace, attic and shed.
Love how you guys work together to get through it!
Labeling would help. Even the boxes you have decluttered. It is sometimes fun to find random things you didn't know you had, but it would help you go through your things faster if you labeled the boxes.
Andy, I have the same issue with my pants shrinking. It happens in my closet!
Gosh darn our dryers!!! 😂🤷♀️
Hi Erica, brings back memories see the dress whites again, when I lived in Cornwall, the summer ball was dress whites and I had a side hussle washing and pressing the uniforms.
Fun watching you two sort together, rooting for Andy to finish that book.
I love how you guys chat while you work together. Too cute.
"I have file for that" Love how easy these tasks become. Paperwork used to just shuffle around to different piles in my house because they had no real home. Just finished tackling my papers and organizing them in one file cabinet. Almost can6t wait to get more papers to file in the new system....almost.
This video was so freaking adorable.
😂🤣🥰❤
You two are so funny!
Not gonna lie - when you were sorting kids clothes, I was thanking God both of my boys have stopped growing (mostly) and we no longer have bins and bins of hand-me-downs. The process of sorting and shifting kids clothing every season is EXHAUSTING! But it does end, eventually. :-)
And I STILL cry a bit every time I do it. 😅😭 Tough to say goodbye sometimes!
But then there clothes get expensive! Crazy how much I can spend on teens jeans and the boys are hard on them. Especially if they are active like my teens. They definitely have minimal clothes
Perfectly timed first advert lol. Kicked in just as he chucked the high school jacket at the camera lol
Adblock?
Andy totally reminds me of the UA-camr EMCproductions. That's not a bad thing given I like both of them regardless. I'm also pretty sure I own that exact pair of suspenders that Andy said he'd never wear
Y’all are making so much progress!
Andy is going wild, he will wear three watches! Goodness XD Great you two work together. 4 down. Did anybody see the Hawaii blouse in the meeting? Our little squares are so little nobody sees what you wear. XD
Love you two keeping it real!
from Fort Collins. As soon as you held up your letter man jacket I knew!! I won't judge you though, I'm a lambkin class of 86 😊
Thumbs up for Andy's thumbnail flick!
Haha, my pants shrink all the time, too :P
Next year I'm gonna hit 40, so I guess it's to be expected.
PS: These vids are super entertaining, thanks for the much needed laughs :)
1981 was a great year!!! 🙌🏼
Great video thanks
This was really fun to watch!
So love this recording of sorting through stuff with a husband. Gotta love that Andy gave every mansplaining excuse for keeping something that has ever been uttered! :) But really, you two are great and so authentic - and your progress is amazing. Carry on!
Awesome! Didn’t realize you were from Ft Collins! I grew up in Loveland and still have family there. Beautiful part of Colorado!
Andy is such a hoot! Thanks for a chuckle this morning!
Hilarious!!! Loved it. I want more!! Thx for sharing.
Need longer videos from you and hubby..loved this one
My husband was sitting by me while I watched this and guessed Mike Schmidt for the Phillies Jersey 😁
I get excited when I find a pen too🤣🤣
Doing this video was fun to watch Do more please and I couldn't answer the tops questions living in UK lol 🇬🇧⌚😁
Did garage maintenance in our little Montana garage this morning. Started innocently with a broken canning jar and grew! All in good order for winter now. Snow removal, winter car supplies, boot trays flank the doors, Shredder is at the entry into the kitchen to catch that junk mail before it comes in the house. Yes, Alan has five bins of books he never uses on the steel shelves, but what can I do.....
Go Phillies!!!
Love this. After missing awesome shoes for my younger kids when all the shoes were in a big container until they had outgrown them (🥺), I finally separated into boxes by size. Yes, it is more boxes on the shelf we use but so much more functional. Now we know at a glance what sizes/types of shoes in those sizes we have and don't, we both know where to put them and find them. It was so much easier to find soccer shin guards(which we put with the shoe bins) and check for cleats the first season after we implemented this.
I love when you guys do videos together.
Ooh! Phillies Mike Schmidt Infielder, 3rd Base. Erica and Andy, you guys keep hitting these videos out of the park!
I live in Ft Collins and my kids' dad graduated from Poudre. Go Impalas! I'm from Elyria/ Lorain Ohio but came out here to go to CSU. Love you guys. Your relationship gives me hope for my future partner. Bless you & yours❣️
My mom bought a graduation gown from goodwill for a geisha girl halloween costume for me when I was little... I was so happy to see you guys donate it.
Love watching you and Andy!!! That 94 letter jacket did make me feel really old!
Lol...the year I graduated high school lol. SOOOO long ago lol
I suggest getting a chalk marker and labeling the bins as you go... that way, even if they arent perfect youll know what you have later. I like labeling mine on one end and one side just in case you stack them differently in different locations.
I use An over the door shoe holder in the kids closet that has clear pockets. Put the future shoes in the the pockets and use index cards with the size marked and slide in the pocket so you know what sizes they are
Love these videos! I would have to have a chart for keeps and donates with the sizes.🤪😂
Love these videos! I can see a watch box in Andy's future 🎄
Yeah, I was thinking - who needs 3 (or more?) watches!!! LOL
You've got this decluttering thing down now. Inspired me!! Selling on Poshmark now. How much can we have.
Your kid is handling that applesauce in the background. Good job not getting distracted!
I get so excited when you open the boxes and bins! I'm like "Yeah, 4 done, 60 to go! 4 more donde 56 to go!" I can't wait till you open all the boxes 😂
I love these videos so much better when she does them on her own😩
Just wanted to share with you how I organize my boys hand me downs. I wish I could post a pic of how this functions and looks! They are 6 and 10. I will prebuy new stuff for my oldest on clearance and any thing that isn’t worn out goes to the little one. I was given about 12 of the wide plastic storage drawers and that’s how I organize everything by size and season. Been doing this for over 4 years and it been amazing. Everything the 6 year old outgrows gets put in a donate basket that lives In the closet. Then the small big kid clothes get folded and put in the drawer and is labeled by size and season. It’s is soooo much easier with changes of season. Little kids clothes go to donate box and big kids gets folded and labeled and put into drawers. New season labeled drawers get put into their dresser and I don’t have to deal with the clothes again until the next season or I buy big kids clothes on clearance. You can repurpose your plastic bins that way and label on the outside. And you won’t have to dig through during season changes. A lot of time on the front end but once it’s set up, it’s way easier for future you.
You may get a lot of use out of the graduation gown-we have used ours so many times over the years for costumes. Harry Potter, judge, witch, old fashioned explorer/scientist for medieval fair...or not! You do what is right for you all! Good work!
So many watches! Lol, i love "watching" your videos! Keep them coming! So inspiring!
My kids are foot draggers too! And wear out their pant knees like cra~zy! 😩
What is a cruise book? It _sounds_ like a photo album, but (not being military) I guess I assumed that all photos would be banned or classified or something when deployed?
Andy at the start 🤣 funny guy!
Mike Schmidt - MY #20 is NYY Bucky Dent! :-D
My dad loved his khakis so much he used them for chores around the house, but his didn't shrink (he did)!
I was soo hoping the “really good watch” was one of the kid’s Watches LOL
There was an Icewind Dale book?? I played a computer game of the same name, I had an all female adventure group! One of my faves with some of the best music I’ve ever heard on a game (Jeremy Soule is the composer). That was fun x
An ad started just when Andy "threw" his letter jacket at the camera. 😆
Michael Jack! Third base. ❤️. Sandy
Good unpack and declutter
Philly #20 is Mike Schmidt, hall of fame member!
Surprise mystery brown shoes! Score!!
Definitely keep letterman jacket!
Andy's ready for Halloween 🎃 you could do those boxes for sentimental items🖼
If you don't sell the Ergos, I think they have some sort of trade-in program.
Catcher, Bob Boone
Erica should wear the jacket 🥰
Tim Tebow❤
Are these 65 boxes from your old house that we’re left there until it sold?
Please consider turning the ceiling fan off for future videos. The strobe light effect means I'm listening to this video but not watching.
Is it Utley? I'm just guessing, my mother lived and breathed the philly's and utley is all I remember lol
I know this isn't helpful, but I can't believe you still have so much stuff. My hope for you is that you learn from this, and pass that knowledge onto your children. Hoarding can be hereditary. As a parent and teacher, it's part of the job to instill this in your children. I hope, after this, that there will be no more boxes to declutter, except for maybe once or twice a year for children's toys and family clothing/shoes things we naturally grow out of, and need to get rid of. Label every bin, even label walls, as someone else suggested. The less you have, the easier it is to organize. The less you have to organize, the less often you need to waste time going thru things., sending more time with your children. Children's clothing that can be passed down (boy to boy, girl to girl) should have their own bin, labeled. I once helped a friend who had 3 girls, who was given a huge amount of girls clothing, everything from play clothes to party dresses. She got bins, labeled them by type and size, and we spent the afternoon sorting, and putting them in bins as we went. By the end, her garage was completely organized with the labeled bins, so as her girls grew, all she had to do was choose a bin.
Please let Andy to unpack more. I love to listen the stories behind every thing you guys found in that boxes.
In German we say: never buy shoes for somebody cuz he/she is running away 😉
Never heard of this saying. Greetings from Bremerhaven 🙂
I saved too many hand me downs. Big mistake ask your friend. The minimal mom how many to save.
?What is a "cruise book"?
I thought you minimized like 2 years ago. Did I miss on something?
You'll be done soon at this rate!
Super decluttering.. But poor Andy... You could have written on A4 paper the info eg future Jack, now Jack, donate and the sizes for those piles ... . Then it takes less brain power...
I started to watch, but I am too traumatized from having to deal with decluttering my 3 kids clothes to keep going! My least favorite thing to deal with because I swear they breed.
Got to say I love this channel but the increase in adverts is turning me off!!!
Same!
Peyton Manning
Seems like your husband is quiet a hoarder himself, he seems to have a lot of "sentimental" items he never even looks at or uses which would explain why things got as bad as they did in your household, both adults where okay with it.
18 Peyton Manning
My goodnes you guys have a lot
if things. How about only having
5 outfits all mix and match per
adult or kid. No more.
😂🤣😂🤣😂
Not to harp on Andy, but jeez! All those watches!!! Seems he needs to develop his own decluttering mantra so he can really question all the stuff he feels compelled to keep. Seriously, keeping things just because they're "really nice" but not because he'd actually use it, sounds like he's missing the point.
I think there is just too much thinking and talking about every item. Go faster and decide quickly because you have way too much stuff still. I love when you are decluttering.
