  • Rocket Run is a launched K'Nex roller coaster. I've automated it using two Arduinos programed to behave like a real roller coaster. The custom launch rockets it's trains at a top speed of 55 mph and up a 4.5 foot tower.

Absolutely fantastic! Can’t wait to see what else you build. If you ever need help with anything I’m a fellow K’nex builder like yourself that’s happy to help!

Dude, you worked 13 months on this? This is incredible! I was very intrigued watching how all the arduinos worked, my main thought was “dang. that’s a lot of wires.” The magnets on the wheel assemblies are so smart, they allows it to function so realistically! I’m always impressed by block sections on knex coasters.
I’ve gotta ask about the 55mph - how did you measure that stat? Did you use like one of those radar guns?

Thank you! It took a long time mainly because I was teaching myself how to use the Arduinos as I went along, but I was also taking classes during most of it's construction.
I used one of the Arduinos to measure the distance from the base of the launch track to the back of the train at a specific time interval. Using these measurements I was able to calculate it reached a top speed of 55 mph. It only hits that speed at the very end of the launch and lost most of that energy by the time it reached the top of the tower.
