This track set was available by sending in all 35 UPC's from the Highway 35 World Race singles. The set was not sold at retail. However, as with some product lines, the pegs were clogged with the first batches so by the time that the third wave was released, many stores did not order more product because they still had so much inventory still on hand. I believe there were five waves. I could find some of wave 4 but a collector friend helped me get the last wave.
Since so many people couldn't complete the 35-car set to send in for the Ultimate Track Set, Mattel let us send in any Highway 35 World Race UPC's. Apparently, not all of the Ultimate Track Sets were redeemed because the track set was reportedly found at Mattel's Toy Store outlets that are connected to a few of their warehouses.
Mattel also sold both the Complete World Race (black box) set and the Ultimate Track Set on their website. My recollection is that they were $99 each at the time. Or, they sold them as a combo for $199.
There were two exclusive models in the set, Power Pistons and Sling Shot. These two models did appear in the 35-car singles set but they didn't have the same decorations. Power Pistons being from Roadbeasts and Sling Shot being from Street Breed but the two released in the Ultimate Track Set did not show either team designation.
This set combines some of Mattel's other sets into one Ultimate track set!

My nephew and I applied regular track pieces to certain areas and were able to get up to nine cars at once, the problem is, while the track is big, there's no time for cars to slow down and recover from one stunt to another. Adding more track gives them a better chance of completing the whole course multiple times.

@@supercommando440 I would agree if these weren't the same model in a different paint job as the ones it CAME with. If they include a mere two cars with a track this big and expensive, they damn well should be able to make it around it consistently.

@@ducl6449 It's from the Wild Wave stunt set from early 90s. I have that set, all identical except for a few extra pieces and it's not painted as the one used in this video.

Found you after I recently remembered and rewatched World Race and Acceleracers. This is like my childhood reimagined. love it.
I think Slingshot hit you because he decided to live up his name and prove he is a slingshot. Lol.
It's a long time commenting after original upload time but I can't say enough how I appreciate that you have these old and hard to come by hotwheels and actually use them. So many people would be content collecting and staring at them through the original packaging but you're showing how they are intended to be played with and admired.

I’ve got one of these sets sitting in my attic, in the Mattel shipping box... i wonder what I could sell it for... but after seeing this vid I think I want to set it up. Had it for about 8 years. Never opened. Sidenote; i think the best hotwheels set ever made was either the Thundershift 500, or the 3-Lane Super Speedway. No batteries for either! The Speedways booster actually plugs in! Mattel needs to rethink and starting making boosters run on wall-plugs, and ship in bigger boxes!!!

This set has great historical information to collectors and Highway 35 fans. I thought it was important to document the information before the actual demonstration.

WOW, That's a cool track set! I collected all 35 cars EXCEPT 1 which I NEVER FOUND and couldn't get the track set! I still have them in excellent condition but unfortunately I threw away the packaging. Used to watch the Hot Wheels videos and really enjoyed them. Still LOVE Hot Wheels to this day!
Track tip! When adding cars to the track, the track becomes "shakey" causing other cars to slow down. To stop this, three things: Tape, Blocks, and for the best performance results: use technical Lego's. This works for all tracks. First, Tape down any parts that can be taped down to a hard surface floor. Then put the blocks under the curves and a weight behind them to keep the cars current velocity. Put more blocks on the sides of the track so the cars have a better wall. If you have advanced Lego's then you can fix some of the hardest places (like the vertical volcano loop corkscrew or crash zone) to keep the track from shaking. The weights he/you used in the video were good but that's only part of it! I use this method when building my ultimate track sets; I don't have that one because it's rare and the mother of all track sets...but I can tell you without a doubt that this is the best way to have multiple continuous cars on your track sets. It may take more time to set up but it's totally worth it to watch.

gods that is old!!! from like 2003/04 13 ish years ago i remember these being on those lil tags on the cards saying free hotwheels track and other goodies, like a storage case that could store i think 50 cars, and this!!! wow
7 years ago these were on the after market around $200-$400. Now they’re a few thousand. I collected all 35 through ebay as a teenager who missed out on *most* of those cars, and they were $15-$20 a car then, and now some of them are $100+ for a single car. Dont even get me started on Acceleracers
What platforms do you use to buy your HW35 cars? I'm looking at saving up to buy all the cars from the movie, but I don't really trust eBay.

That orange power piston is the best looking model in my opinion like I love the wheel type and its transparent too it's tough car.
You know what, after watchin the vid, eventho I'm now 20 something's teenlit just wanna come up again.. So nostalgic* hotwheels had some big role in my childhood, and so does it til' today :')
