It seems the issue here is not that her biggest fans are in bad position, but us crazy collectors who want it ALL and they are making more than 1 thing we want lol. I try to project the offer onto one of my favorite bands. If this was Nine Inch Nails, I’d want all 8 extra tracks and would feel obligated to buy all 4 versions to get them. But I’d still be pissed about having to pay for so much duplicated content. I can excuse buying two copies maybe, and I’ve done that before. But I’m just not seeing enough value here for four purchases of “Lover.” Which is why I think they’re taking advantage of the fans, many of whom are younger. I’m also troubled by the commoditization of the music. Is Taylor Swift an artist or a product? Her focus seems less on the former than the latter, and that’s kinda sad. Yes, this stuff would make for a fun round table discussion over beer and pizza. Better than debating politics!

I think the answer to your question is a deep one for this day and age as I think it is the later....she is a product lol. I think in the past the music generated the product, but today they make the product to generate sales of the music. Justin Bieber, Tylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, etc.....All products to sells. Especially when you look at who is targeted with those kind of artist. I lived in downtown St. Louis for about 4 years. I was less than a few hundred yards from Busch Stadium (The Cardinals), Enterprise Center (The Blues Hockey), and the American Center (Where the Ram use to play). Tons of concerts and sporting events came through there and I have NEVER seen that downtown area shut itself down way it did when the freakn' Jonas Brothers came to town lol. The Who, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Rush, and on and one didn't even put a dent into the chaos the Jonas Brothas caused lol. Talk about selling/ becoming a product lol. I saw 2 Cardboard Shelfs of the Albums stock located in the front near the checkout another at electronics and Target also like reputation gave her album a huge amount shelf space in a already decrease CD Section (Depending if your local target was renovated).
Plus, Target is also adding that if you buy all 4 you get a $15 Target Giftcard. So Spend 70 bucks then you will get a $15 back in a form of a target giftcard.
When To Target Today, I only bought 1 Copy, Deluxe Edition Version 1 and That's it, Can't fool me Taylor. Speaking of rewriting masters, she’s doing that exact thing now with all her earlier albums. So the fact that she deploys these sales tactics is also a choice. Is it not? I hate today's mainstream music and Taylor Swift is a poster child for all that is wrong with the music industry. My support are for newer artist who are working under the public radar such as Adia Victoria and Nilufer Yanya where I have to do independent music research to find such artist. For me Taylor Swift's music is so soulless and she is just a piece of eye candy where the music industry wants to support an image instead of great music. Just my opinion.

I care because I think this sets a bad precedent for the music industry. I'd hate to see artists I AM a fan of pull a stunt like this and try to get me to buy four copies of their album just to snag a few extras spread across each version.
Because these things full up peoples pockets at the expense of others and the value isn’t always there. Why can’t she just sell her merchandise separately so people don’t end up paying for the same thing 4x? Or just one bundle since she knows they will buy all four regardless? This is about ethics in marketing and consumerism.
The future of pop music may indeed be singles, not albums. The album as a format has been losing viability in the digital age, when artists can release songs individually as fast as they can write and record them. Taylor Swift could do very well as that kind of artist... as if she hasn't done very well already.

Buying Adele or Katy Perry's album is much worth it
