Good video Ben, as a retired Firefighter i have been the casualty in the car and extracted the drunk out of the car. The worst case is when the driver runs off leaving the friends or even girl friend in the car.

My daughter’s a student paramedic and went on one of these fire brigade training exercises with the rest of her class. They asked for a volunteer to stay in the car with the patient whilst they cut the roof off, only my daughter volunteered. Weirdly, the next shift on an ambulance, she ended up in a car , staying with the patient and keeping them calm whilst they cut the roof off. A couple of weeks later she received a thank you letter and a gift from the casualty, thanking her for staying with him and keeping him calm.

I remember in January I was in an RTC Training exercise twice and the firefighters had a laugh with me at times, talking to me and letting me know what’s happening along with student paramedics too. I loved every bit of it even with the loud noises and I learnt a lot whilst being extricated as it was my first time being in that kind of training. Well done Ben! You done great! And well done to NYFRS for their work too as part of this training video.

Another great vid. And also a very timely warning (PLEASE don't drink and drive folks. Even that 'just the one' affects your driving).
But this reminds me of my schooldays. Some mates and I volunteered to be 'casualty simulators' for the fire brigade. It was great fun. And it go us out of school a lot! But there used to be competitions as well. So we'd be upside down in a fake submerged car in Spenborough Baths whilst burly firemen would drag us out in the fastest time possible. Got some right injuries from that. But as they would point out, they were going for realism and in real life what would you prefer; a disclosed shoulder or drowning?
Happy Christmas Ben to you and yours.

I feel sorry for the people that still have to clear up the mess and the families that have to live with the selfish consequences of others. The drunks often walk away unscathed. They should be made to care for their victims.

Not to mention the resources this ties up to get your backside to safety, after those many drinks! Great video, and what a bunch of absolute professionals. Really a best case scenario as most of these incidents, single vehicle or multiple, end up with the driver and passengers in a much more precarious situation , with all sorts of serious injuries.

My other half is a CFR (Community First Responder) He keeps a camping chair in both our cars, so if he comes across someone that has been in an accident, but doesn't look that bad, he gets them to sit on the chair, where it is safe to do so. He never lets anyone get in the car, because if they turn round and say that their neck hurts, the fire brigade has to cut the roof off the car. They cannot possibly be moved otherwise.

As a medical student, all of us in my uni get a similar mock scenario in our second year of the course but they get some of the students to be the casualties and even had wound artists etc. and had police, fire, ambulance and air ambulance crew (not the chopper just the 4x4 Volvo) involved in it - great to see how everyone works together in these types of situations.

As a former Taxi Driver I would also like to add that you should never drive whilst tired. Some years ago as a Taxi Driver I never took long distance jobs late in my shift , as I knew I would be tired. However one Saturday night I was offered a job from Dumfries in South West Scotland to Glasgow. The Job was earlier in the shift so I took the risk. Driving at about 2am near Hamilton I fell asleep at the wheel.Whilst I was asleep the car swerved into a junction, at which time I awoke and swerved back into the motorway. I was lucky that it was a quiet road at 2am otherwise I would not have successfully re entered the road and completed the journey. Had it been a busy 2pm for example the outcome could have been a lot more different, please don't drive whilst tired.

About 35mph, was a really crappy bent on a 60 limit, no indication of a hairpin bent at night. Doors open right up and it was the funniest thing ever. My friend actually got out and locked the car 😂 no one was drinking just a shitty situation. The council have since put reflective signs up.
