I'm new to your channel and loving everyone of them. I'm 66 years old and recently started walking. Did my first 5k in june. I would love to do what you are doing. That's not going to happen so I'm just going to enjoy your journey and keep doing my small hikes here in ohio. Btw, thank you for your service.
Bit of information. In the 1850's NH was basically deforested. Now it's protected so therefore, switchbacks won't happen. If you think of how many trees they would have to cut down for switchbacks, it would be a HUGE endeavor! NH is the Granite State so that's what you get for trails. Please enjoy our mountains!! Stay safe out there!
It looks like you had great weather during this stretch. Kudos! I too enjoyed that 4-5 mile flat stretch along the Ethan Allen trail. 😁 Between the snacks, drinks, all you can eat breakfast and dinner, you are getting about $60 of food during a hut stay. I took advantage of that while hiking from Fr. Ridge, thru the Presidentials, cutting my pack weight in half. Another bonus. If you compare the rates of the huts with local inns with meal plans, they are about the same, sometimes cheaper! Just be sure to bring ear plug (or buy them there) and switch bunks if the snoring gets too loud. 😉
Another great video. When I see those bolder filled trails (especially the trails straight up with no switch backs as you said) I get a bit of a shutter. I've hiked all over the world but nothing harder than the Whites of New Hampshire. I know it's a bit premature but what's next after the AT?
Hahaha, yes, I agree they are super difficult! I'm not totally sure, but after the AT, I'd like to hike the Northville-Placid Trail in NY, the PCT in sections, and sections of the North Country and Ice Age Trails. And maybe the CDT someday!
Ok, this is what I heard from a park ranger from NH. It is based on depth, not size. The shallower ones are ponds, the deeper ones are lakes. He wasn't sure what the cutoff depth was.
Awesome scenery, thanks from Canada. Happy Hiking...
The white mountains are beautiful ….Thanks for the hike

That stretch of flat trail was way prettier than I expected too!
“I’d probably be making better time if I didn’t find so many blueberries on the trail” 😂😂😂
That would be my problem too!

Try the Adirondacks.
But I agree, they are challenging.

What makes them ponds and not lakes? Look like lakes to me 😉
Not sure why some states label things differently. I think each state may have their requirements for size?
