Did Paul go to the synagogue without a head covering? I don't think so, if it was the case, the jew would have rejected him from the synagogue and accused him about it. Actes 21:24 What is written in Greek about man's head covering in 1 Cor 11:4?
To your question, Sha'ul (Paul), the other emissaries, and even Yeshua would NOT have worn kippahs either in the synagogues or in everyday life. The practice of common Jewish men wearing head coverings in the synagogues didn't become widely accepted until the Middle Ages.
