- Hey Everyone~ :D
So quick background!~^^*
We were born and raised in the States, moved to Japan 7 years ago, and yeah! This is our story~^^*
Get to know me! | • 50 Random Facts!
So this is a video about my sister and I`s experiences in a Japanese High school. We went to an International Jr/Sr High School called Ashiya International Secondary School. The school was labeled international because there were a lot of mixed race children which is unusual in Japan, but all the classes were taught in Japanese and a lot of the halfus (half japanese half other race) there could not speak English. Nonetheless, hope you all enjoy this video~^^* If you guys have any video requests don`t hesitate to comment down below~^^*
Have a happy rest of 2015 everyone!
Xoxo,
Steph
I think slide doors would be good. Less people would be hit in the face by doors.
exactly
it would work if i put atention to weare im walking ive goten hit on the face a few times
I remember opening a door to class and I hit MYSELF in the face.
It happen to mean and it hit me so hard it's one of those big wooden doors and the jerk in the front didn't hold it and I have braces so my mouth hurt and I'm almost black out my friend had to hold me up these doors are dangerous 😂😂
hey it's me omg Conan lol
I prefer sliding doors than swing doors..
+am ber No sad head bumps!!
+Candy Sugars instead finger cuts XD
+Mia Glyzel Lolololololol the accident prone aren't safe from anything lololol
R68 good choice
am ber my house only has swing doors to the bedroom and bathrooms. the others are sliding door wich is rare in my country
I know about the hug thing. I cried and a friend hug me once. I feel awkward but it felt nice. After that I heard that when we recieve hug, our brain release the happy hormone that relax us and make us healthier. Well we Asian need to give hug more to friends and family!
RIIIIGHT idk why I always stiffen when somebody hugs me, but I like it! xD
Like when my friends hug me and I stiffen, they'll say "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to be invading," and I'll say, "NO U STOOPID HUG ME BACK AND LOVE ME"
'Cause it's actually feel that good to be hugged, right. xD
+hiraeth. lol so true
Hey guys~~~ :D
Sorry I uploaded this again since I thought the volume was way too high in the other one~^^;;
Do you think this one is better? If not ill put the other one back up and delete this one~^^*
I didn't think that the first one was too loud.
this one has good volume level, too.
don't worry about it, it's all good :D
+Steph Choi heyyy...last video in this year

+Steph Choi hay, great video and you have a CUTE sister

In the Philippines, hugfests are daily occurrences, even with teachers. Some students even put their arms around our teachers' shoulders and hug them as greetings. Once, when we got our fifth grade teacher to sub for a our sixth grade class, we spent the period catching up, and some girls sat with her at her desk, one of them shared her chair, even. We Filipinos are very affectionate, it seems.
of course we give hugs in europe. Europe is really different depending the country but in the south we give two kisses when we meet someone and before leaving
is he gay... or European
vzn who??
Clau Gati Its a song....
vzn ah ok
Clau Gati if you kiss greet the cold Scandinavians, they will freeze 8D
In the UK people hug looooooads! At least, where I live. I was born in South Africa and I also lived in Portugal when I was younger but, I've got to say, the UK is the most hugsie country I've lived in. At first, I wasn't used to it but now I love it. There's nothing like a good hug:) Thanks for sharing all those facts, that was super interesting! I can't imagine having to wear skirts in winter, sounds really cold.
If y'all are an anime fans you don't need to know these facts
Kirito Kazuto US WEEBS KNIW EVERYTHING
Kirito Kazuto Or if you're Asian, like me. I'm actually surprised that in America, you don't need to stand, bow and greet when a teacher comes in.
We don't really have lockers in school either, with a few exceptions. Even your duster doesn't have the plastic cover, which makes me wonder, wouldn't your hands get dirty whenever you try to wipe the board?
In American highschools, the students are usually disrespectful to the teachers (from my experience)
Mina S Same. It got so bad the teacher quit 2 days after they got the job ._.
LittleDarkBunny 19 Yikes! Usually in schools, the nice teachers who get disrespected turn harsh.
I think cleaning the school by student is agood thing
yes we hug in Europe!!!
+Little Miss Squirrel no we dont.
+viewfromheavenn depends what part of Europe
No Not in France. French people found it really weird
Mailys Harston Yes that's true
+somethangsandstuff Are the kisses actually legit in France? No, right? I mean, my home stay mother did it when I had a home stay there, but I never saw anyone else doing it? ... not a thing that happens in northern Europe at all, at least.
Hugs !? A teacher doing this in France in high school would have really *big* problems. :)
In Turkey not only do you hug but you also kiss each other on the cheeks.
I apologize if I have any spelling mistakes. In Estonia we usually hug if we haven't seen a close family member for a long time or if we have to say goodbye if they go away for a long time or we just don`t see them often. In my family we tend to hug a lot. I love hugs. They energize me :D We don`t hug with strangers only when we are close with that person. This was very interesting video. Thank you for filming it.
YOUR CLASS STARTS AT 8:30??? DAMN YOU SO LUCKY mine starts at 7:30 and my school is a bit far so I have to wake up at 5:20 😭😭
+Tove Friendheart Im from the Philippines and many schools from here also start at 7:00 or 7:30. And mine ends at 15:30 too
bboooiiii
My school starts at 8:50a.m. .......
It's probably because they need more time for transportation cause they don't have school buses
Alison Wow that's interesting
I can't wait for the English version!!

KYPspikes too many boys in my school :P
My school has more girls than boys
They hug in Europe too, atleast in Holland they do.
Britain too. Mostly.
im from sun
In switzerland aswell and usually aswell kisses on the cheek
+Marsaili Jolly really? I just spud or hand shake or shoulder touch or whatever
in France too, we hug
We hug in europe too haha! It's weird cause I'm from Sweden and people generally assume we are cold and distant people but everyone loves hugging and skinsip. Like I would spoon my friends when I'm sleeping, guys or girls doesn't matter, hold hands, hug my teachers. Of course not everyone is like that but if people know each other they are usually very open ! :)
Wish i lived in japan everything is so kawai there. And the people seem really polite and cool.
MushGeorge246 weeb
Nope
no doubt you'll get annoyed with a lot of things if you do go there. i can list off a whole bunch of things like cost of living and finding a job as a foreigner, adjusting to Japanese mentality, etc. least you're less likely to get mugged/stabbed or be stepping on dirty needles in a park.
Hm
pssst ... there are no sbtitles .
Here in Norway, people give hugs. Of course it depends on personality, but it is common. Even for guys, if it has been a long time no see, and I'm talking about a full embraced frontal hug. I think my Japanese girlfriend are starting to enjoy hugs as well, even in public. And btw. thats how I found your channel, because I've been watching a lot of Japan/Korean related UA-cam videos after I met my girlfriend. She has gotten me interested in eastern Asian culture. I'm originally from S.Korea myself.
I think the elementary school desks were great! i'd rather have a desk I could put stuff in then a locker
I've been following your channel for 2-3 mouths, and I'm so glad I've found it, because thanks to you I'm learning a lot about Korean and Japanese cultures ! Keep the good work and your lovely smile ! You're awesome, Steph ! Hug from France ! ♥
I've been a silent watcher for a while now but I wanted to say I love your videos! (:
In Germany everyone hugs their friends. As a greeting, as a goodbye, to comfort, to just snuggle or whyever. You can hug whenever you want. I like to surprise my friend and hug her from the back. But it's not like we are intrusive or something. There are people who don't really like being hugged or even touched.
But I could never live without a hug sometimes.
Our teachers cant even "grab"us. it's considered violent. A kid threw a single punch and was almost expelled.
From teacher to kid??
Yeah
our teachers grab kids hands if they are in trouble XD
Enjoyed this. Your English is perfect, I hope your Japanese will improve quickly so that you can feel that you really belong there. You are both probably great candidates to be language teachers or something even more amazing because you are obviously so friendly and able to overcome your language limitations through your winning personalities. Ganbatte!
im 188cm tall i be like a urban legend "The giant from kyoto" :D
I'm 5,5 and I'm 11 being tall suckes😩
I love your videos. It's so cool to see you with your family right now!
Wow you guys look like 14 and 12. Maybe u stopped aging when u moved to Japan
+Yml Nightcore Why are you offended? They just look young. What is your problem?
+Compton123
I don't know ONE asian woman who would take offense to someone saying they look young. XD Especially since Asian Americans know that western people age differently.
+Compton123 That's what i thought too. They looks so young and so cute .
asians don't "age slower" they just look after their skin better :)
I SAID THE EXACT SAME THING HOLY SHIT MAN THE EXACT SAME THING, to myself of course
Thank you for this amazing video steaphanie, I'm Turkish and planning to move to Japan so I learned a lot from this video, thank you! ^_^
I heard Japan is so clean
I miss being a junior and koukosei. High school days was fun. I'm half Filipino/Spanish. I live in Tokyo for 11 years now. Anyway, nice UA-cam video. Subbed^^
I learned most of these from anime. Lol ^ - ^
Anime doesn't teach you about Japanese culture.
+Ashizzel LaVaughn some of them do and I meant like the stuff where you have to stand and bow. I learned everything I know about Japanese culture from anime and other resources.
same
+Ashizzel LaVaughn the funniest thing is: it actually do teach you that
maybe not 100% of culture, but its really amazing that most of thing you see in school kind anime, is true
+vert2552 yeap cool, wouldnt have been confident but shy and little wierd if also known japan if it wasn't for anime. An otaku.
Wow. I've learned so much!!! thank you so much!
You guys have the most greatest teeth ever ;-;
Thanks! This was uploaded on my birthday!
Lol, yes we hug in Britain
Oh man a lot of the things you said bring back memories for me! I live in America now, but I came from an Asian country and spent a good portion of my school life there, so I can totally relate. :D

Here in Bulgaria we start at 7;30 am, but me and my friends go in 8 am. :D
Time to come home, ladies. We need your spirit and your good presence here.
they hug in europ.
and they hug here ,i'm in the middle east.
Wow.. Schools are sooo much different in Japan than here in the Middle East :o great video and your sister is sooo cute!!
Omg. I'm 5'9 so i guess that if i went to your high school, i would be a giant.
Informative and insightful sharing of life experience. She seems like a nice person who is continually learning about life!
i love Japan and Japanese fave language and country
Thanks for letting us now this? have a nice day!
Oh god! you too are so cute together!! you keep reminding me of how me and my sister goof around!!
Every body don't give hugs, in the whole Asia, not only Japan.
Josh Mosq I'm Asian and my friend literally smothers me in hugs. It's common in some countries in Asia
my entire family, we give hugs as greetings and im asian
in switzerland we often hug to say hi and goodbye, especially when we haven't seen the other person for a longer period of time. we also kiss our relatives and sometimes friends on the cheek for that!
We hug every time in Brazil
Great video. Very informative. OMG! We have it easy here in the UK compared to kids in Japan. I'm a brand new subscriber.
I THOUGHT SARAH WAS YOUNGER THAN ME THIS WHOLE TIME, but she's actually older (I'm 17)
Now she's 19. And i thought her sis was younger than me, turns out we're both 22 this year
Nicken0o0 yay she's my age XD
kasumikat we can be brother and sister
In my American highschool Japanese class, we all had to do the same bow! It's crazy! Our Japanese class in school was so much like what you described in Japan.
it is normal in Malaysia to have no aircon no heating no lockers no fields and we always have to now before the teachers come and leave no school bus broken chairs no light at 6 until the sun comes and our skirts and it is like 40 Celsius are over knees we have to sit on the dusty floor for an hour for ceremony the good have bugs and lizards in the soup and we don't even have doors and our toilet don't have soap and santa flush and our floors are made of stone everything is bad
I wonder if we Malaysians went to Japanese schools. Will we fit in?
+Shaylen Sylvester yeah we will cause we are Asian , when I went to Japan all the Japanese thought I was japanese
+Chloe Wong yeah? can you speak japanese?
+Shaylen Sylvester I can speak some.Japanese but I can't write it
+Chloe Wong oh! that's pretty good. you'll improve :)
You guys are soo pretty and I love how you express yourselves! New subscriber ! :)
yep we hug in Germany.
Netherlands too
+Merel Ha
same in the United States, except only after break/before break (for the younger kids), birthday gift that meant a lot to them, otherwise it's only with parents and lose cousins, ...
America also
you guys are awesome! i enjoyed this video very much!
sorry those werent shocking at all i watched anime so its like common sense lmao
gross
Not everything is the exact same between anime and actual Japanese schools xD
+Kotonoha Katsura how they cleaned the eraser, and the first few surprised me, because I've always seen videos and anime where they can where sweaters, but I didn't know there was rules to the sweater.
+Sex-E Coco Troll detected.
Kira Suzuki Lol, you can't talk to an oversensitive douche brah, especially one whose probably like 10 judging from the pic and name. (I should really start muting posts)
New here and you girls are funny and enjoyable to watch XD its surprising how Japanese School still looks very traditional and no high Tech's but if it works then it works.
How old can you be to go to a Japanese highschool. I'm 19 , probably go to Japan when I'm like 21
Daniel Oh I think that's too old......
not if you're a teacher. had buddy teach himself Japanese and then move to JP to be an English teacher. Voila, he's now living in Japan as a gaijin.
Stanislav Kovalchuk If anyone is curious to know what 外人「がいじん」means it means 'Foreigner'
I wish I had a homeroom instead of interchanging between 7 different classes each day; you would interact with your classmates so much more.
yeah I agree. it's nice to have permanent classmates
I think that asian are not that opened than european or american XD so that's why they don't give that much hugs(?)
we sell hugs not for free
Maybe in Japan it's like that but in Indonesia you may give hugs to your friends (but only to same sex friends).
@@ltschmrz.611 yeah we love hugging. Berpelukan~
In Europe we give hugs too, I think! I actually live in Germany, and we do! But only very good friends x3
ありがとうございます for the video! It was really interesting!^^
damn you're so adorable
damn bro you was simping
@@luluthecreator44 lmao i dont even remember simping that hard. was a fulltime weeb back then
오 고마워요^^ 저번에 제가 물었던 질문에 대한 내용들이 포함되어 있네요 감사합댜~
둘다 너무 귀엽고 예뻐요 ^^
im an exchange student in japan right now and in my french class there suddenly was this new girl and it turned out she was with the same organisation as me in mexico. She is super nice and when we said good bye she hugged me and i was so thrown off guard because i never received a hug in japan before and on top of all she was my senpai and usually all students at my school are more respectful to senpais then to teachers. she now always hugs me when i see her.
sounds new and fun.i would probably try and make everyone social if i were at highschool in japan
The name you say for your school sounded SO similar to the one I went to when I was in Sapporo for two weeks! I almost thought it was the same one, but then I looked at the description haha
you guys are so cute together and so funny💜 It reminds me of how I am with my sisters when were trying to be serious ,we end up being silly and making eachother laugh
please do more videos about japanese high school!!! This one was really good
fascinating. i hope someone on my country would have a bright idea of building a school with an integrated japanese high school culture... how awesome i think it would be.
OMG 😲 I can't believe that she is 21 and her sis is 18. At the first I thought she is 16 or 17 and her sis is 15. I swear to god They are so cute, adorable and young.
School starts as early as 7:00 AM or 7:30 AM in the Philippines. That goes from pre-school to high School, and the earliest schedule of classes in colleges and universities.
Hey guys :)
i will try to answer the ,,hugs in Europe" question: it is very common to hug your friends, Well at least where i am from (Berlin in Germany),hugging is more common under girls. guys will also hug each other but not as often as girls, they will mostly do fist bumps or high fives but it think it depends on their friendship . There are a lot of turkish and Arabic kids (i am half turkish and half arabic too lol) and kids from other cultures in my school and they are a lot more chill when it comes to hugs , you will even See a lot of them giving the Person they are greeting kisses on the cheek(girl to girl and boy to boy)
the conclusion is that Europeans are a lot more physicaly than Asians
i hope i could help ^^
PS:sorry for the long Text and mistakes , i hope it was understandable :)
The chalkboard part is funny. In Canada, we don't use chalkboard any more since it's hard to clean..and the dust isn't good, so all schools use dry erase (white marker board) with washsable makers.
Lolol. I love how excited you guys got about the chalkboard eraser. 🤣 "That's good stuff."
Omg I'm like in envy. I have a huge level of respect and like an aura of awe because of how much I love Japan. The culture and everything. It's just like in anime kind of. But it's really cool. I'm planning on going there for a while next year.
Whaaaat! There are more sisters?! I thought you were the oldest!! Lovely video BTW ;)
I spend all night just to watch all of your video, I want speak english and japanese like you did. and now I still learning yet.. sometime I feel like I want to give up. but after I saw all of your video, it makes me excited. thanks and for you keep fight. will be my happiness if you want to be friends with me
sorry if my grammar looks still not good, I hope you understand what I'm saying 😍😍😘
I like Sarah eyes.. and obviously love both of your smile.. @@
and thank you for the informative vlog! V
here in england teachers aren't even allowed to touch students, like a child could be crying in front of them and they usually just have to sit there
wow #4 is crazy !!! AC were standard since 1993 where I studied .
thank you for sharing this :) i think it was very interesting to learn from you :)
In Mexico hugs don't matter really, even when you get like a small spelling bee or math contest award you get hugs from the teachers in charge of that contest when you get your diploma, we get hugs for everything, lol. Also, I just found your channel and I'm already subscribing.
We do hug in Europe, but at least where I come from (Czech republic) it isn´t appropriate for teachers to hug the students (even if they are upset) or touch them very much at all! We mostly unconciously keep the personal distance, you know the "zones", it isn´t common for teachers to enter your intimate bubble. Except in school photos and such :)
Thanks for the video.
Hi ! Cute video
atleast ur school starts at 8:30. Our school classes starts at 6am. And every monday. we have to go to school earlier than that since we perform a ceremony or smthing like that. I hope I could live there.
i think you should say more about it
like about obento, its really big tradition, its not only like "parents make it for children, and in usa they would buy", i think it should get more informations, whole tradition about preparing food, to make it look really like piece of art :)
the same about air condition, its not "they dont have", they dont need it
hugging? i think its connected to thing that in japan people tries to not show any 'private contact' public
but still i like the video and was nice to listen someone so lively
3months more and ill be able to meet my friends again in japan ^^
ps. you are pretty cute, you know? ;)
In my country teachers often hug their good students and ask if they are healthy and are ok. My biology teacher really takes care of me. Idk why but I can't complain. ❤️
Steph , you and your sister are very pretty! And i enjoy watching yoir videos!! ^_^ Im really curious about 1 thing though... Are you korean or japanese?
I've experienced that hug thing with my Chinese friend. I'm a hugger and we barely ever see each other these days, but whenever I hug her she instantly pushes me away and says it's a family thing. XD
Anime gives the impression that Japanese teenage girls are always crying, hugging or crying WHILE hugging!
The whispering freaked me out haha also I like that y'all cainines stick out a lil
Yes, we do give hugs to friends in Europe
You two are ADORABLE!
i love this video but you have a large family i finally noticed haha!! so theres 6 kids? wow growing up that must of been really like to have all that family (well ups and downs). I have only 3 siblings myself.
Anyway although im already in uni i really wanted to know how japanese high schools are. verrrrrry different from american schools
they do give hugs in Europe, i fact in our school it was more common for girls to greet each other with a hug instead of a kiss which is considered more "European". And frankly I love hugs, but I always feel self-conscious when I do it and I tend to stiffen up, so people around me started thinking that I don't like it, while I'm sitting here like "GIVE ME SOME LOVE PLS ;("
Only 8:30 am.. We go to school before 6:00 am because exactly at 6 we start the classes. BTW, some Japanese customs are quite common to our place too... :D
Really interesting! You're both so cute X3
its really funny how us in the philippines have no air conditioners in our schools but no one is fainiting bc its very hot lmao
