In 1968, I was serving in the US Army stateside, and upon hearing about the senseless tragedy of RFK, I was at loss of words. At a time, we needed a man who would help the United States stop the war in Viet Nam. This man had a will to help others, who were not as fortunate. He acted on his own conscience, to seek a new world which we all could appreciate and love. I remember my father, who never cried saying, it is all over... the world needed that man, and now...there is no more. Surely, we must pray for our government today, to strive for better policies that will enhance us all. Let us remember RFK, and his dedication for a better society, and may we seek as did he, a better United States and her policies for all. RIP...RFK
I was in Vietnam when Bobby was murdered almost two months to the day after Martin was slain. The shot that killed him wounded my spirit and it took me almost 40 years to fully recover. Though I had no physical wound; my heart and my mind were not whole and healthy for a good while. The land I loved and the political system I believed in had become a house of horrors and a torture chamber where the best among us sacrificed their lives to make America as good as its noble words.
Larry Conley: You are absolutely right. After JFK, MLK, and finally RFK were assassinated, something in this country broke. Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall.
I've probably listened to this particular version of this eulogy a few hundred times. It's a powerful and inspiring moment. It was easy to call JFK my generation's hero, but when you hear and see Bobby's deeds, it's clear he is my hero. More specifically, he speaks to a moral and ethical high-ground that helped me understand what I stand for or hope to live up to. Thank you.
Had to come watch this after all this election chaos. So many voters have lost faith in our leaders and, to me, Robert Kennedy seemed to be a leader driven by an undeniable sense of purpose. If you read about his life, you'll see he was someone who was tough but had a fragility about him that made him so deeply compassionate for those in despair. Good to remember these leaders existed in our country's history. Hopefully there's another Bobby out there to inspire us again.
I was 13 years old, and watched the train carrying his casket pass through Iselin, New Jersey. It broke my heart seeing Mrs. Kennedy sitting in that car with the casket. A great man who left us too soon.
It seems once in a lifetime, someone comes along and makes an impact on the world. I believe robert f. kennedy did that, the short time he graced this planet. His idealisms and compassion for the less fortunate are awe inspiring, along what he stood for, are things everyone should strive for. His honesty, directness and love for his fellow men showed the inner workings of a great man. Like his brother said in this eulogy: be remembered simply as a good and decent man.....He is missed..
Robert kennedy was a man who probably could have had everything he ever wanted handed to him, and yet he chose to dedicate his life to helping others. He didn't serve his political party, or even his country, but his fellow man. It is fitting that the man who coined the phrase "Moral Courage" is still the greatest example of such. He would surely stand alone for what is right, and by "the work of his own hands" he has built a legacy that will last forever. May his memory inspire us all.
Bobby, During one of our darkest hours, you stood as a beacon of hope for the entire world. Of all the Kennedys, you the great idealist, were surely the one who could rescue us from ourselves. How sad, that forty years later, this is where we have come.
It's young people like you who keep the dream alive, i'm a teen too, 17, and I love learning about past heroes (JFK, RFK, MLK, FDR, etc.) and barely anyone of my friends or any student in school seem to care... R.I.P. Kennedy's, you 3 are together at last, and one day, all 4 brothers will be sitting together on that beautiful bench in the sky, talking about how life could have been different if they lived at least a little longer...
I was the lucky one- I had Ted Kennedy as my senator for most of all my life. I never had to worry about the congress votes. I always knew Ted would vote MY vote. It's so different now--- my voice is gone maybe forever.
This was the eulogy given by Ted Kennedy at St. Patricks Catherdral in New York for Bobby. I will never forget Bobby's words: "Some men see things as they are and say why, I dream things that never were and say why not" Bobby Kennedy.......
You can hear him get choked up towards the end. That speech had to be extremely hard to give. I read that he didn't expect to live to see 50 years old since all three of his older brothers died violently as young men.
Four brothers, born into wealth and privilege died in the service of their country. To them much was given and they gave much back. We may not see their like again.
This was a wonderful piece I myself loved the music. It was very fitting. RFK was then and is now my hero. There has never been a man like him. RIP Bobby.
I love the music, too. It's fitting, but maybe the levels could have been toned down a bit to let the words of Teddy speak for themselves. Imagine dealing with Teddy's ordeal. As an Irish American myself, I hold the Kennedys in only the highest regard. Bobby, Jack, and Teddy all strong, visionary, amazing, and compassionate leaders. Let no man desparage these heroes. Thanks for sharing! Long live the memory of Bobby. His loss was one of our nation's most tragic looking back.
"I dream things that never were, and say why not?" I was 13 during the 68 campaign. Think what you may about the Kennedy family, Bobby was the best President the United States never had. Vision, hope, and compassion for the oppressed. A sense of justice - in words that still reach our hearts today. We live today in equally challenging times, demanding this generation to step forward and lead.
Such a powerful quote. It was paraphrased by Bobby, but originally written by George Bernard Shaw in his work Back to Methuselah. Bobby was a great man.
some people are like ships that pass quietly in the night, others illuminate the world around them with their courage, integrity and sense of duty and responsibility. 30 years after his death we are more in need of such a man than ever before. Bobby was the cornerstone of Jack's administration and would have made a brilliant leader. the problems that he tried to solve are still an issue around the world today. thanks so much for the video
I had never heard it in it's entirety before... Thanks a lot for making it available here with such beautiful pictures. Such a great inspiration! Thanks!!
It's been 42 years since we lost Bobby. RFK & JFK truly walked in the steps of Christ. They cared for the poor, the sick, they were the voice for every person who was ignored by those in power. They were not perfect, no man is, but like Christ they were killed while trying to do what was morally right. I don't think it was a coincidence that Bobby died at Good Samaritan Hospital. If we want to honor Bobby and John we must follow their examples. RIP RFK and JFK. We love you and we miss you.
+HeartInThe60s It's so sad, When JFK was assassinated Bobby gave his eulogy, and when Bobby was assassinated Teddy gave his eulogy. The Kennedy's were always a family of service to others and the less fortunate. They fought for social injustice and wrong doings in the world. They are a great family and will always be remembered in this country.
I learned about him in History. I know it would never be the same as living it. But above all he is the one person that made me sit up and pay attention. He was going to be something great, he was so sincere in everything he said, everything he did, everything he wanted for America. So devastating that he never got the chance for that. R.I.P.RFK You will never be forgotten. This speech was beautiful to honor a beautiful life. You didn't have to become president. You were chaning lives before that.
Rest in Peace. You will always be one of my heroes. You would have been someone really great, sadly you were taken too soon. It is always sad to see those who didn't believe in violence have their lives be taken by senseless violence. I'll never understand it. Hearing this breaks my heart. Your life on this earth was not wasted. You left a mark that will always remain for all of us to learn from, time after time. Not many people can say that at the end of their lives.
How sad we are that we will never see Bobby again what an aching void there is that nothing will ever fill what Joy and hope he brought us how deeply we be loved and admired him and the world is indeed bleak without him a be beloved father an adored brother and son I know we will never look upon his kind again
R.F.K. was a true champion for the common man. He would have been the best U.S. President ever. I remember him well; we should listen to these words about him and find the courage to stand up and defend those who cannot defend themselves. We should feed the hungry, clothe the naked, & shelter the homeless.Let us right the wrong, end the suffering, & stop the war & sensless killing. It's alright to agree to disagree.Remember: we all breathe the same air & we are all mortal.Unite & work for change.
Having being born in 1994, I genuinely wish I'd grown up in a world where Robert F Kennedy had truly left his mark as US President. I think it would have been a better place.
JFK,MLK And RFK passed across our skies like golden comets,we were blessed to be sprinkled with the heavenly dust that those shining stars showered upon us all,it is up to us all to carry on their hopes and dreams, their early and quick passing means they will never grow old in our imaginations.JFK,MLK,RFK-NOT FORGOTTEN.
I hope all the people of the world can someday achieve the level of love Robert had for mankind. I hope to be able to commit my life to the level of love he held for man. But we cannot dream this to happen we have to live it, and practice it for it to come true....
because people will be people. This man, Robert Frances Kennedy is just like YOU AND I. I See Things and say WHY............. R.F.K. is my hero BUT like us all........... Happy Birthday Robert
in a speech rfk gave at the DNC convention in 1964, speaking of his slain brother, he said (quoting from romeo & juiiet): "when he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he shall make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night, and pay no worship to the garish son." the same must be said of him. at a time when there were so very few heroes, rfk carried the torch for the dreams and hopes of hundreds of millions people throughout the world.
Such a tragic loss, of such a great and inspiring man. Man god bless and keep the Kennedy brothers, and all their good and inspiring conterbutions to our nation. So sad that Bobby followed his older brothers in dying a violent and sad death. It seems sad that the Kennedy legecy light dimmied out with Teddy's passing. May Teddy join his parent, brothers and sisters and nephews in heaven. R.IP to the Kennedy Brothers Joe, John, Bobby and Teddy.
RIP Teddy. the last of the Great Family is gone. "Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not." Edward Kennedy 1932-2009
I hope someday we get leaders like that again. We need true leadership in this country. We haven't had it for so long. I wonder if we'll recognize it when we see it again.
I believe Robert F. Kennedy left an example for all of us. He tried to make this world a better place for all of us. His ideals and works were never short than aspiring. His absents form this life... should reminds us of our own obligations, and continue to strive, as he did.... making this a better world for us all. i pray others politicians will comprehend and follow the compassion, works and love, that Robert F. Kennedy shared with his fellow Americans.
Robert Kennedy was more popular in Canada than even our leader; Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, elected in 1968. He will continue to grow in the hearts of Canadians, as well. You are not alone. Thank you Pat McCarthy in Canada
This is one of the most eloquent speeches that I have ever heard. Papa Joe gave rise to three of the most forward thinking men that this world has ever seen. My prayers are with the Kennedy family in this time of need and strength that they have too often have had to endure.
Thank God that there are still great people like these in the world. ...I pray that other people will not only persuit of happiness to themself, but toward their neighbor as well. Thank You
I lived in in the 60's and had good times and sad times. I believe the best times were President John F.Kennedy, apple pie and mom, and the worst times were when Pres. Kennedy and R.F.K. were taken from us. With the war in Vietnam, i truly believe they would have made a difference...bringing the Vietnam war to an end. America lost two great people during that era, and shall never see their likes again. They are missed...
I was a grade school kid when this happened, but I will always remember how crushed I was as a result, as well as so many others that I knew. I remember that many were so very impressed at this euology.
R.I.P Bobby, as well as the other brothers who have been taken from us too early. I may have not been part of the generation Bobby was, but he truly seemed like someone that wanted to live and help build a world where we don't have to fight and kill to get our ideas across.
"some Men see things as they are and say why, i dream things that never were and say why not" i remember the first time when i heard this quote i knew it was said by a man of great vision. i didn't know that Robert Kennedy said that Kennedy's are one of the kindest and noblest men on this planet earth. the only americans i trust.
while most teens my age write things like i love rob pattinson on their binder, I have "Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." I'm really quite proud of it actually. although i wasn't alive when he was i still miss bobby :(
Comparing Edwards or O'bama to this great man is a disgrace. Robert Kennedy could not be bought. He is one of those truely great men that don't come along often. Robert Kennedy was able to unite all men to a cause of peace and freedom. His death was a tragic day for the world. It shows us that evil men do not take days off and neither can we. Champions of peace like MLK, Ghandi, RFK, Ron Paul, and others need to be the light we follow at all times.
Thank you so much for posting this!! I am a huge RFK fan as was my mother. He was her favorite as well as mine. We would talk of what might have been had he lived. Don't listen to the haters, they aren't listening to Bobby's words and/or fear his message. You just keep spreading the message of love he died passing on to the world. Thank you so much :)
I had posted the following comment some 2 years ago "some people are like ships that pass quietly in the night, others illuminate the world around them with their courage, integrity and sense of duty and responsibility. 30 years after his death we are more in need of such a man than ever before. Bobby was the cornerstone of Jack's administration and would have made a brilliant leader. the problems that he tried to solve are still an issue around the world today."
I wasn't born when JFK, MLK and Bobby were slain. When I was a little girl those 3 men were my heroes. They still are. I remember when I was 5, when they showed stuff on TV, even then I understood what great men they were, how much this country lost when they died. It made me cry for us, and for their families. RIP Bobby. I know I shouldn't say it, but nobody is ever going to say stuff like this when Dubya dies. The Bushes have destroyed this country and so many innocent lives it is sickening.
I tried to be like Bobby just to be hated...I was never like Bobby but everyday he tought me to do good for others...since I could not do it for myself at leastI coud do it for others....be well and try to be Bobby, we need more of him and less of these awful corrupt politicians.
What a speech Bobby wrote in such a turbulent time. If only Teddy would've traveled the right roads as he was fortunate to be born in the right conditions as his brother proclaimed.
God, if only RFK was not assassinated. He would have been a great president. I loved him. I was a little kid when he died. I love this speech, especially where Ted says, ...he saw war, tried to stop it.
From a Brit I remember well the day JFK died. My father was a D Day veteran and he returned home one day in tears. I'd never seen him cry before. JFK had been assassinated. Dad loved him because my dad was no racist and neither was John. As a 13 year old at the time it has lived with me and in time I learned what a great man JFK and his brothers were.
"A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - But a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character; we cannot alter its inevitability." - RFK
Eugene McCarthy knew he would not become President, he was standing in protest against the Vietnam war, which was noble, brave but ultimately gesturing. Bobby had a real chance of getting to the Whitehouse and pulling the U.S.A out of Vietnam in 1969-70 a few years and many lives earlier, and incidentally before the desecrations in Cambodia
In 1968, I was serving in the US Army stateside, and upon hearing about the senseless tragedy of RFK, I was at loss of words. Very beautifully written 🇺🇸💙
I still have my 1968 RFK for President button. I still shed tears every time I see film footage of his funeral train. :'(
I wish I wouldve been alive when Bobby was. he was amazing.
I was in Vietnam when Bobby was murdered almost two months to the day after Martin was slain. The shot that killed him wounded my spirit and it took me almost 40 years to fully recover. Larry, thanks for your service. We all appreciate it.
Omg I'm so sorry. It's good how you went to Vietnam to be a hero to the american people. I'm 11 and the assassination of bobby kennedy is so sad to me
With all respects, Thank you for your service and your sacrifices for our country 🙏
Please don't ever delete this video.
I'm so glad it's still here, since watching it back in 2008.
If only he would have lived our world would be a better place! I love you, RFK!

Arguably the most beautiful speech I've ever heard.
am I the only one who tears up when I hear this or am I the only one who gets motivated
Me too!
Robert F. Kennedy, a remarkable man, taken from his family and us. So very sad and moving all these years later.
I was 13 years old, and watched the train carrying his casket pass through Iselin, New Jersey. It broke my heart seeing Mrs. Kennedy sitting in that car with the casket. A great man who left us too soon.

Thank you
Pat McCarthy in Canada
This is one of the most eloquent speeches that I have ever heard. Papa Joe gave rise to three of the most forward thinking men that this world has ever seen. My prayers are with the Kennedy family in this time of need and strength that they have too often have had to endure.
this speech makes me cry every time i hear it. i used to remember it back to back.
Thank God that there are still great people like these in the world.
...I pray that other people will not only persuit of happiness to themself, but toward their neighbor as well.
Thank You
Very moving. The speech Robert gave in South africa was inspiring.
The best president the United States never had.
Robert Kennedy, not John Kennedy. Now, Trump is the best President ever.
@@thegooseman6888 I think you read my comment wrong, bud. Also, Donald Trump is a boffoon unfit for the office he holds. He's a disgrace.
"some Men see things as they are and say why, i dream things that never were and say why not"
i remember the first time when i heard this quote i knew it was said by a man of great vision.
i didn't know that Robert Kennedy said that
Kennedy's are one of the kindest and noblest men on this planet earth.
the only americans i trust.
while most teens my age write things like i love rob pattinson on their binder, I have
"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." I'm really quite proud of it actually.
although i wasn't alive when he was i still miss bobby :(
Correct you are, the words coming from Bobby have a sound and place like no others.
So powerful. The music was a really great addition.
If only Teddy would've traveled the right roads as he was fortunate to be born in the right conditions as his brother proclaimed.
your right. i just hope that in our lifetime we will actually see a great man or woman who will carry on the message or the sincerity
We miss you Bobby. Viva la Kennedys!
just beautiful. thank you for sharing
Sometimes I think Bobby was really a priest in disguise as a politician.
Bobby had a real chance of getting to the Whitehouse and pulling the U.S.A out of Vietnam in 1969-70 a few years and many lives earlier, and incidentally before the desecrations in Cambodia
my idol bobby
I MISS HIM
I met Bobby in Mishawaka Ind shortly before his death I was ony 8 years old at that time Thank-you for ur service to our country
..
each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.
O melhor e o maior dos Kennedys. Bobby Kennedy descanse em paz❤
