    Just dropping a comment to say I love your videos overall. As a carpenter for 8 years I have learned a lot, but I still have a lot to learn. Got through an apprenticeship doing a lot of framing, roofing, siding, drywall, and some trim. Finish work is what I enjoy the most and I hope to one day do it with the same quality and efficiency as you do. Your videos have helped me so much already, and I'll be trying to get through them all one day. Keep it up!

    I thought you were going to say $450.00 or something. 150.00 isn’t bad at all if you’re a professional. They’ll pay for themselves many times over real quick . I love it that the stops stay with the tool. You’ll never have to search for them if they were to get misplaced.

    Love this. I always had my crown stop in the front so I had to dedicate the time to only doing crown, because cutting on the flat was not available until I removed it. Great tool. I would buy these for sure as a finish carpenter using my miter saw every day.

    I had to sand mine to get them to slide smooth too. That was no biggie. One of my favorite aspects was that the fence was perfectly square to the base on both sides. The original fence was off, leaning back more than 1/16 .

    Great informative overview of the crownstop fence Spencer! This was a nearly perfect product when it was submitted to fastcap initially a while ago and was improved even more with feedback from the beta test tradesman group over a few months of testing to get those wishlist features in there (higher fence height, better knobs, and a few other tweaks.) I've all ready chucked my factory fences in the trash. Great add on for the Dewalt saw line up. I think there is only one of the many dewalt saws that you have to watch how close you set the stops to the blade as that particular model (carpenterone3's has that saw) must have a different stop block in the receiving part of the factory fence slot. Easy fix to just trim/grind it for that specific model. Great video!

    Thanks for the review. I bought mine as soon as Fastcap had them available. I had the same problem with the left side fence. Had to file it down a bit, then it worked fine. I also noticed they sit out just a bit from the fixed fence and found them to lean in a bit more compared to the factory fence. Am thinking of trying to file them to correct them. Do yours sit in correctly or do you have the same problem? Otherwise I like them, using mostly for cabinet crown.

    • @InsiderCarpentry
      @InsiderCarpentry  11 місяців тому +1

      Mine sit pretty good. The only way I have seen to correct fence tilt is to tap a bolt into the back to add tension and adjustment. But I fine that the fences are close enough for baseboard and crown install.

    Wondering if you can think of any advantages of using the stops on the fence rather than the crown stop on the base of the saw.
    Thinking of building myself some miter wings and want to know if I should router out a crown stop jig in them. Thanks Spencer

    • @8jabberjaws8
      @8jabberjaws8 11 місяців тому +2

      When making a cut on crown, in the nested position, the saw blade wants to pull the material upward. Having stops on the fence prevents the material from moving upwards during the cut. When using a crown stop on the base there is a chance the material moves away from your stop as you cut, making cuts inaccurate.

    • @InsiderCarpentry
      @InsiderCarpentry  11 місяців тому +3

      A continuous crown stop across the saw base is always going to be the most accurate imo. But sometimes you just need something fast with the ability to still cut flat stock, that is where the fence stops shine.

    • @InsiderCarpentry
      @InsiderCarpentry  11 місяців тому

    • @ibarskiy
      @ibarskiy 11 місяців тому +1

      @@InsiderCarpentry a tad disappointing. If there’s one thing that leaves a little to be desired with the saw it’s the quality of the fences. And maybe lateral blade stability that requires good technique but that’s probably unavoidable give their slider design. But love the capacity for base standing up so…

  • @henrypeisch5289
    @henrypeisch5289 11 місяців тому

    Too much maybe to ask a saw manufacturer for flip up crown stops that are built into the base of the saw. Flip up for crown and down and recessed out of the way - for base or flat stock. Possibly building this feature yourself into your wings might be an interesting project. Crown stops at the saw base are going to provide more consistent cuts than crown stops at the fence IMO. Of course shorties will not reach a stop on the wings but that’s a good time to just use a pencil mark on the base of the saw. And now for a little bit of a rant. What I liked best about this video is that you filmed it in front of the trump border wall. You get a close look at the mismatched heights of the lower line of the entire “bulk head”. Any idea why it drops in that one section. Still looks like a mistake that the architect, designer or framer should have picked up on. The interior design elevation drawings (from the slat wall video) shows the intent for that line to be continuous over the support columns. But field conditions show otherwise. Somebody should own that one, IMO. Hard to rant about anything on this channel but I try.

    • @InsiderCarpentry
      @InsiderCarpentry  11 місяців тому

      Those drawing are a suggestion at best. We made many revisions in the field. Interior designers often don't understand how things have to be built in real life so we communicate on those things and make changes as needed.

    • @henrypeisch5289
      @henrypeisch5289 11 місяців тому

      @@InsiderCarpentry of course. Just thinking the short portico section of girder (bulkhead) could have been upset or the balance could have been packed down the entire length to achieve a clean line. If a clean line was the architects original design intent. And I expect it was or maybe should have been.

    • @henrypeisch5289
      @henrypeisch5289 11 місяців тому

      If builder, architect and design criticisms are a problem because they may read them, I can tone it down. The fact is, these homes and the execution of your finish work in them…are typically flawless. From what I can see in the videos at least. Finish carpenters have the opportunity to cover or fix a multitude of framing and drywall sins.
