Watching this after reading Richard Hunt's biography. What a treasure he was. He deserved far more life than he got

This Sesame Street Muppet character Placido Flamingo is based on the famous tenor, Plácido Domingo. Hailing from Santo Domingo, the character was first introduced in Episode 2134 from Season 27, and helped to introduce classical music into the series.
Placido's performances at the Nestropolitan Opera are seen in the "Live from the Nest" series, introduced by Phil Harmonic. Placido is proud of his talents and not averse to the sound of his own voice. Though generally friendly, he does have an egotistical side and often refers to others as his "little friends." He was created by writer Mark Saltzman, who wrote the character's first three appearances.
Placido made a rare guest appearance in the 1988 PBS pledge drive special, A Grand Night: The Performing Arts Salute Public Television, appearing onstage at the Chicago Theatre with the likes of Gerard Schwarz and Jerry Hadley. In 1989, Placido dueted with his namesake, Plácido Domingo, on "Look Through the Window" in the anniversary special, Sesame Street: 20 and Still Counting.
Following Richard Hunt's death in 1992, the character was retired, but continued to appear in re-used segments for 6 more years through season 29 until 1998. He also made a cameo appearance in Episode 4195 from Season 40 in late 2009.
What if Richard Hunt avoided AIDS by being celibate and more careful with his life? That would've been beneficial if that was the case.

@@reneastle8447Richard WAS careful; If you read his biography they address this. Also, many people were getting AIDS in the 80s/90s; it wasn't just sexually active men, it was also people who suffered from drug addictions, children in the womb, blood transfusion receivers - remember Ryan White? It's callous to think he should have just remained celibate or wasn't "careful".
beautiful, spectacular, Placido Domingo was a man who was truly born to sing, if only Jose and Luciano could have be there to sing with him, they'd get even more audiences to watch them, and that would have been even more spectacular and unforgettable

RIP Richard Hunt and Joe Raposo! This was one of Raposo's last songs before his death, the other being "What a Bird!".
Had Joe Raposo gotten early detection for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and received medical attention, he would've been still alive and well today. Had Richard Hunt avoided AIDS by being celibate and having properly married to a girl and having a family of his own, he would've been still alive today too.

Puppeteers in the number include Richard Hunt (as Placido), Pam Arciero, Camille Bonora, Jerry Nelson, Fran Brill, David Rudman and Noel MacNeal.
The Muppet wiki said Noel MacNeal did uncredited work for this special. Now I know why.

@@Sacha_Kudli Ah, not just that... he's much bigger than I am (Pudgy) most opera singers do that because that way they can hold in more air in their lungs, which is how they can hold those high notes

I 1st saw Domingo was in the Movie "Tosca" on KCTS with my family a few hours after seing a graphic trailer for it that gave away the ending. This trailer was in 1977 (long before Placido Flamingo) when at the age of 7 I was still watching the CTW because Sesame Street was sooo good. P.s. who wrote this song?
