Because this is normal. When the weather is good, you will see cars going over 200 every other second. Maximum i saw was someone flying away from me when I had 280 (max speed for my car).

Being a non-German living in Germany, I have to say that the Autobahn is the most exciting thing yet the most nerve wracking in Germany. The first time I was on the autobahn I had no idea about the speed limit (or lack of it) and almost shat my pants when my boyfriend started speeding and speeding.

Not really , Here in Saudi Arabia they mod sedan cars and get them to speed over 280 , And they go that fast in every single highway and the traffic going only 120 because its the speed limit, barely miss the cars and overtake them by going to far left between the cars and barriers , sometime there is already an overtake in front of you while your going way faster than them so you have to go far right and overtake between two traffic lanes , Alot of people lost their life because of speeding , but its so bad ass when your sedan car can destroy sport cars for example this one on the video , the cheapest modding can get you more than 500hp in LS1 engines , You can hit even 2000hp on that but thats not safe and not balanced you can never drive that with normal wheels , So commonly we go about 700 - 1200hp , and perfectly balanced between drag and speed limit , the most speed i saw that engine go with normal wheels is 360 km , it was on a chevy caprice 2006 or as Australians know it holden statesman 2006 , my favorite car , in my country this car we mod it fully American/Australian , and this car made so many Japanese cars that rich people bring from japan "Fully modded in japan" looks like garbage , Experience Cannot be baught , rich people think 900hp GTR can beat pro's 700hp ls1 , the results are not even near , 6 cylinders Rofl

That's also why it's literally the easiest and most boring part of your driver's license exam. The only exiting part is when you have to merge into the traffic.( And the few idiots who don't care for their own and other people's safety of course, but luckily they really are an exception and not the rule)

During the first lockdown in April the Autobahn was almost empty. 4 - 6 lanes free and you're alone. I was doing 180kmh or 110mph with my shitty car and people were passing me so fast I couldn't see what car they were driving. It was insane.
Man I miss these lockdown times. :( During that time, I had to drive from Berlin to Nuremberg every week and with empty Autobahn my best time was not much more than 3h, with avg speed above 150kmh 🥰 even with all the construction sites. 260kmh all the time, when there was no limit. I think we will never see the Autobahn that empty again.
During the lockdown I was able to drive from Frankfurt to Bremehaven totally alone on the Autobahn flat out the whole way (where it was alowed). Did in 3.50 hours. Lockdowntines were good drivin times
Unfortunately we have speed limits here in austria but during the lockdown i was able to drive down the ski slope with 120km/h due to lack of people and tourists that was also amazing.

My dad told a story of how he was driving 250 kmph (155 mph) on the autobahn and an old German couple passed him with 300 kmph (186 mph), the old lady was knitting a sweater in the passenger seat.
People expect old people to be very slow and careful because they’re old and fragile but after a certain age death does not scare you anymore and you just do whatever you want. The only reason we don’t see more old risk takers is because a lot of them physically can’t do stuff like that anymore because of their health. I know my grandparents are super adventurous and only don’t do things because they aren’t healthy enough to do it anymore.

Chris R. -- the fact of the matter is that there are less accidents on the no-limit autobahn then on regular highways. The reason is people are more careful and more concerned about other people driving, on the no-limit highway. As you can imagine :)
In my dictatorship the speed limit would be 666 km/h.
and the germans can acually drive. Never felt so safe as when i drove in germany, noone is angry, you respect each other and you never get cut off.

smaniz I've been to Germany a few times and the Audubon always seems slow, full of traffic and construction. When I was there the 2 lane roads through the country where much nicer and I think I averaged higher speeds on them too

It's really funny for me as a German. Only time I drove in my perspective fast on the autobahn was 237km/h and that was with a usual BMW 3 Touring (Kombi) :D

haha yeah, i often drive 160-180ish, which is a comfortable speed for me, but when i leave to Austria, driving 130 feels so super slow. Now imagine that backwards, you drive your whole life long 130 and then you get on the Autobahn :P
Yea - cruising at about 180-190 is comfortable. When you get up around 230 i get really nervous about the cars in the right lane who change to my lane without a signal. If that other car changing lane is only doing 120 -- you got to be quick as your approaching at 110 km!

Can someone explain to me why the word "Weg" in "Aus dem Weg!" got censored?! In English it would be censoring "way" in "Out of the Way!". It's pretty stupid tbh.

Censoring a word that doesn't need to be censored just to suggest to the American audience, which for the most part doesn't know German, that the guy used a swearword? Yeah... Sounds like someone in the editing team was either desperate to get another "joke" in there or the guy just assumed that the word "Weg" must have been a swearword. Either way, it's just odd.

Loved my BMW when I was stationed in Germany ,the Autobahn made it even better !!
Besides football, beer and riding high speed trains, driving on the Autobahn is one of my favorite things to do in Germany. I love seeing the bright sign telling me the speed limit has been removed.

I always had a mild desire to drive at top speed on Germany's famous "Autobahn". After seeing Conan O'Brien do this, I now *NEED* to do this!
linux750 well don’t have too high hopes. Many sections of the Autobahn have a speed limit and often there is so much traffic and construction that you won’t be able to drive so fast for very long.
The word they bleeped was weg wich is just the German word for way so good job Conan crew 😁👍👏

Because German cars are built well. Especially for high-speed smoothness/stability.
My motorcycle is a lot smoother and comfier at 100+ than 70... police don't seem to agree though...

It is kind of cute watching it as a German. 215 km/h is my usual speed when there is not too much traffic or any restrictition. But for the first time on a Autobahn he did quite good.
