EF-4/5 tornados also leave behind ground scouring. There have been instances where a foot of soil was lifted during some particularly stronf EF5 tornadoes.
its insane that you can still go on Google Earth and see ground scars from EF-5's in the past. The scar left by the 2011 Joplin, MS EF5 is still very clearly visible now, 13 years later
1997 Jarrell pulled the plumbing from the earth and pavement off the highway. If you were in it you died. It was coined the dead man walking. Legend says if you see the dead man walking tornado, you are about to die.
Honestly it happens. You can find quite a few videos of it being sunny around the tornado and the supercell being just off to the side. Usually though, it's hot and sunny before the storm hits, that causes more instability in the atmosphere, increasing tornado risk and strength.
@info_geek if f5 can destroy buildings like nothing then why did even schools believe Dat hallways were EVER safe from wind going around and around fast??
Excellent video and a great teaching tool. I helped clean up the Tuscaloosa tornado which also oscillated between a four and at five. I saw several foundations of buildings with nothing there it had wiped them from the face of the Earth. Until you actually visit a site and experience the damage you don’t really have a good idea. And the lives that it destroys will leave you having nightmares.
A coworker of mine was killed by an F-0 tornado in downtown Salt Lake City, it knocked an exhibit down upon him that he was working on. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message and the gentleman's name was Alan Crandy.
This seems pretty accurate actually, considering the pictures I've seen from the Indian Lake Tornado here in Ohio. It was a wedge EF3 at 155mph, 10mph shy of being an EF4.
my uncle lives in that town, the tornado directly hit the storage for where he keeps his camper and it flipped over and landed ontop of someones vehicle. his house had no damage and luckily they areok yet he lost his trampoline and playset aswell as the camper
This reminds me of the typical trailer park news interview after the fourth tornado of the year…Reporter:”Mr. Lunsford, your home has been leveled again. What will you do?” Mr. Lunsford: “Well…ummm…we just gonna rebuild…”
I hope they had a storm shelter😁 awesome animation man.. love your videos... you create great suspense with the music as well!! Instantly subbed... I'm looking forward to watching more videos!
The farmer took lessons from the nobles in Monty Python.... the farm burned down, fell over, sank into the swamp and was lifted away by tornado..... and each time, WE REBUILD!!!!!
After living through the 2007 Greensburg, KS tornadoe I have a new fear and respect for mother nature. The day after I took a photo of a flimsy roof shingle that was stuck in a tree. 😮🌪
Twister was one of my favourite movies growing up. It was old, but I loved it. As a girl into science the character of Jo was someone i looked up to. I particularly loved that she didnt fit the nerd stereo type.
What I'm gaining from this is that anything Ef2 and above can and will cause a shit ton of damage and possibly kill you. This has helped my phobia so much.
i just moved from a place with no tornados, to a place with tornados and the first time that a warning went off, i panicked for sure. they are one of the natural disasters that terrify me the most. fortunately, in the cities, its a little more rare t have them touch down.
I couldn’t live in a place that had these things. I’d be scared to go to sleep. I loved the movie twister it’s one of my favorites. The power of these tornadoes is crazy.
One of the things that just mde me shake my head when we studied it in uni was that we alredy have options for building extrenely tornado resistant buildings, and have for a long time, yet we keep rebuilding structures proven to have extremely poor resistance and to be unsafe. Get this, these alternatives are even cheaper! This insane focus on a certain aesthetic over safety and efficiency needs to stop. If you were in an earthquake prone area you'd probably agree a more earthquake resistant building is prudent if your previous house collapsed. Why not with twisters/tornadoes?
Being born and raised in Oklahoma I have always just stood on the balcony or front porch watching the tornadoes until they are right on top of us. I’ve been in the center of probably 20 or more in my life and it’s honestly really fun. EF 3 and below you really don’t even have to go inside, just be somewhere that a strong wall or something is going to absorb a branch impact. EF4 and 5 you need to go to a storm cellar or a room at the center of the house as low as possible. Also for EF4 and 5 you’d better be prepared for no power, be stocked on groceries(no refrigerated items), have a full tank in case the gas stations go down. Usually never gets that bad but if it does you’ll be thankful you did
Having lived in Oklahoma most of my life and witnessing first hand the power of multiple f5 tornados I can say it’s scary how truly devastating they are
All the footage I've seen of EF5 tornados that's so interesting is that they're hardly even visible. It's just a gigantic disgusting blob of destruction pouring out of the sky. Nature is scary
Ef0:it slight damage to roofs of barns. Ef5:it can blown houses off 4:00 foundation, thrown cars 1000 yard and blown off trees ,but some, it can lifted thể road
This tracks with an EF1 that went through the Chicago north side in 2020. The buildings all survived, minus awnings, gutters and anything that could be ripped off. And trees weren't uprooted. But they did have large branches snapped off and some older ones were broke in half. Superficial damage to buildings, lots of branches down and a few cars turned into pancakes. Took a few days for power to come back for some people. As tornadoes go, not horrible.
Wow! Great illustration of how powerful these forces of nature can be, even at the lowest end of the EF scale these swirling winds of evil can still pose a potent threat. I’m a native Californian and for as long as I can remember, going back to kindergarten and elementary school, part of our curriculum was earthquake education, preparation and reaction. I’m curious and if anyone who reads this who grew up in a part of the country that is considered prone to tornadoes, did you have tornado drills in school? And did they also educate you about them (tornadoes), like what the EF ratings , etc.
Thanks for the video. I hope I never see any of these come near my house. I hope that farmer had a storm shelter for several of those category tornadoes. Take care and be safe.
I know what tornadoes can do having had several a few years go that hit in Massachusetts. I woke at 6 a.m., to the sound of thunder.I wasn't thinking tornado, so I turned on the t.v., and heard tornado warning. I was What? I went back into my living room, ad listed again, hoping i was wrong. I wasn't, so I son, and he grabbed our cat, and came running down the stairs not believing me! When he saw what I did,he was shocked! We'd had an EF3 tornado that started way out, and just kept on going. it went through several towns, before hitting Webster. Webster had 3 buildings that were going to come down, and all three of those were destroyed by the tornado.
The west coast deals with earthquakes, the south deals with these. And from Alabama to Georgia, they come at night, between 12AM and 4AM but it's happened during the morning rush too.
Hats off to the amish for quickly getting the buildings rebuilt everytime
😂😂😂😂😂
That’s maybe the best comment on here.
Mennonites not Amish….amish don’t have car they have buggies

I have seen the plumbing pulled out of the ground and asphalt roads razed to dirt.
Yup. Alabama a few years back had 3 ft deep of scouring
Yeah, they become nuclear sandblasters when that happens.
1997 Jarrell pulled the plumbing from the earth and pavement off the highway. If you were in it you died. It was coined the dead man walking. Legend says if you see the dead man walking tornado, you are about to die.

Short people problems, An EF1 to them is an EF3 to a normal sized person 🤣😁
This is tornado alley
Never would expect this on such a clear, beautiful day.
Yeah, where is the parent supercell?
Honestly it happens. You can find quite a few videos of it being sunny around the tornado and the supercell being just off to the side. Usually though, it's hot and sunny before the storm hits, that causes more instability in the atmosphere, increasing tornado risk and strength.
ikr it just looks dumb lol
Poor farmer. He has the worst luck. Rebuilding his home only to have another tornado rip through it right after his wife arrives from shopping. 😞
😂
After 6 of them he should probably move. What insane bad luck.
Yet still can’t get rid of her! 😂
Poor farmer? Poor Gnome!
And a stronger one each time
Why would you drive your car up to a house that’s about to get hit by 6 tornadoes?
Wanted to get home to their loved ones, I guess
Lol
Omg 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That is what people in Tornado Alley would do 🤷🏻♀️
Liberals, ain't got no common sense
The tornado: how many times do I have to teach you this lesson, old man??
I love the young people
What I want to know is how that tree on the left keeps surviving.
The camera angle creates a small illusion. The tree is big and located quite far from the house 😊

It also seems like each tier tornado comes with louder music 😂

Take a look online for the Great Bend tornado 1915. Aerial photo. OUCH! 😢
Excellent animation. The lawn gnome and the reverse reset were a lovely touch!
Great simulation! If you ever redo, can you get in different shapes like wedge and multi-vortex? Or maybe a cone transitioning to a wedge?
Thank you! I will keep this in mind!
One minor thing, the tornado was rotating backwards, but this can happen with anticyclonic tornadoes which are rare so, that’s fine.
and in the southern hemisphere too

Yeah all tornados deadly dangerous. Rip
Who remembers that movie Twister? Someone asked what would an F5 tornado be like, and they replied "...the finger of God..." 😢
I remember that film. It was Melissa who asked Preacher "Is there an F5, What would that be like?" It was Preacher who replied "the finger of God".

Tornadoes are no joke! When you see one don't film it get below ground.
You are completely right about that. Tornadoes need to be taken very seriously.
there was an ef4 tornado like 11 cities away from me and some people died because of taking videos of them
Free will. They chose to film knowing the risks but it's still free will.

A category EF5 is as if the farmer never existed nor had a home. He is wiped out completely 😮
Outstanding presentation.
Awesome animation but the tornado rotation was incorrect
Maybe the animation is of tornadoes in the southern hemisphere. Teehee🌪️🌪️
I think the RTS (Reed Timmer Screaming) scale is more accurate.
Plus, it eliminates the need for sirens.
