  • The first Celebration of Eagles, which took place July 6-7, 1996, was an event unlike any other in model aviation history. It was destined to be remembered by those who attended as the greatest gathering of the legends, innovators, and leaders in our organization and hobby. Although two similar events followed in subsequent years, the first celebration drew the most people-all legends and mentors to the thousands of members they inspired over the decades.

Fantastic! Brought back so many wonderful memories of being at the event and meeting these incredible R/C pioneers. I even caught glimpses of my Dad and I together. Thanks to him I get to enjoy this great hobby. Loved the ads seeing the companies that were popular back then and helped make the event possible. Thank-you!

what a wonderful video. I started building model airplanes when I was about 7 years old at a boy's club. I'm now 78 and I still build and fly. I have had the joy of owning a model airplane company, teaching USAF pilots to fly r/c, managing USAF model airplane teams, written a column for R/C Sportsman magazine and a couple of feature articles for the AMA, and been a director and officer in an AMA club. But the height on my experience has been to meet some of these greats. I will always treasure all these years of joy I have gotten from model aviation. I hope I can continue for many more years to come.

Flew with Sal Taibi = gentleman, generous, model builder and flyer. Sal knew how to design, build and fly. Produced many kits for us novices and the experts. Sal's designs always flew well and were competitive. A giant in west coast free flight modeling and back east in the early days. I miss this man a lot.

Venezuela.

No Remote ID. This HOBBY has been gutted enough..

I was enjoying this... until the first mid-roll ad (What the?). Documenting the hobby deserves better than turning that history into an ad-laden revenue-stream (IMHO).

That's my airplane beginning at 55:09 and that's me bending over it when the clip begins. It's a Midwest Aerosport 60 powered by a YS .60 ABC. I built it expressly for the Gathering, planning to get all the autographs I could. I still have the wing hanging on the wall in my shop. I wonder if the AMA museum would like to have it.

Thank you Mr. Robinson, looks like a very nice airplane and a great idea - Build something for the event and then retire it. We appreciate your generous offer but in the museum’s collection already have several items with the all the attendees signatures. Again though thanks so much for the offer. Keep it as a memento of an historic event!

So sad there are no youngsters, say 8 to 18. Stolen away by video games.
