I think the Sci Fi situations are more comprensible to a Child. Although, as same you Maybe could not understand some historical and politcal jokes in The Simpsons, in Futurama the scientific jokes pass away sometimes (talking like a primary school boy)
I dont feel like they focused on leela more than the original, there butterfly episode was bad though, i feel like the comedy centeral era just wasnt quite as funny as the original, had very fun sci fi premises though

That joke floored me. Honestly if we get a movie on production par with the Simpsons Movie, I will go see it and could die happy the next day knowing I did.

Also I'm a younger version of the 1990's generation who watched Futurama on TV when it first aired. I was still a child, that being said the many references to actors ALWAYS went over my head. I had no idea who those people were. It's the few parts of the show that aged extremely poorly.
Topical references generally aged poorly, which is probably why I read so much into history and whatnot. Allows me to appreciate some of even the most obscure jokes and references in many forms of media. Definitely a better education than anyone is getting nowadays.
I'd say futurama does parody and satire worse than most other forms of comedy. Nobody remembers the eyepad episode fondly. Everyone loved the water people planet episode, the robot planet episode, fountain of youth. Futurama is most memorable and at its best when its doing its own thing. Not making boomer level of pop culture references.
If a show like Star Trek only lasted for seventy-nine episodes, I don't see why it's so popular. Some of the most popular series', both good AND bad ones, end up lasting past a hundred
the problem withe the new Futurama is that is jokes about things no one cares about (like bitcoin, amazon expansion, santas back story), or don’t want to remember (like covid, streamings scam shows, etc)... pop culture is the keyword here! and its missing...

As Much As I Love Futurama I Kinda Prefer American Dad! more heck Roger and Bender are 2 Icons to themselves I could watch the Hulu revival ( and King Of The Hill ) for that matter but I have a stacked schedule as Is so I'll see about that
