Matthew, when you get to be my age you will find bending to be much more of a challenge, especially when trying to put on your socks.
I don't like how much I relate to this comment.
😂😂
Oh man somebody admitted he be old
@@trureinhart4860 Real old,...but in my head I'm still 23.
I think you'll find that remembering your name comes first, then your socks, then remembering where you put your guitar and finally remembering that you could actually do a lot of this stuff back in the 60's. Arthritis and stupidity don't help either but I still enjoy watching someone young & talented do it well. Mr. Scott, I salute you from England
Man, that tip at the end where you talk about how important it is to record yourself is HUGE! I’ve been doing it for the last few years and it’s improved my playing 10 fold, that and playing along with a looper.
I'll second that. Best advice ever.
I think that's what has developed my playing over the last couple years.
4:33. 5:13
The main thing that I am impressed with is how you are able to do this with a guage 11 string set and do a whole step bend with vibrato, that is some serious finger strength.
years of training!
I don’t even play the guitar but I love learning how people do cool stuff. Thank you for sharing your artistic talent.
I must admit that I am drunk at the moment and I couldn't pay attention to what you were saying, but I said to myself: "he looks like the Jesus of electric guitar" ty for sharing your passion
The biggest issue my students have is bending to pitch. It just takes practice, practice, practice. Listening to recordings of yourself is great advice. I have them fret a whole step then go down and bend to it over and over. And maintenance is also important. Keep the fret board clean, keep the frets polished, and change strings when they need it.
yes its muscle memory. remembering where to bend those notes to reach pitch. Which then changes when switching Gibson to fender and different string size
I’ve been recording myself play since I started learning guitar to document my progress. It’s really cool to go back to some of my first vids to remind myself how far I’ve come.
that's exactly right!
Such a great guitar player you are. Amazing
thank you so much.
really dig the fact that you love these old guitars. reminds me of my love of old cars.
the wear on your strat body next to the neck pickup always reminds me of the sun reflecting on a lake or pond.
some have said that! ALthough, it may not last too long.
Very apreciated....32 years playing ...and you change totally my form to play bends !!!!
Thanks
Oh maaaa laaaaawd, that tone is incredible. I’m in love with your guitar
More videos like this please!
Love your stuff man, keep up the great work.
A great tutorial from a really great guitarist, and so humble. Thanks
I'm soon getting a 1970's Anniversary strat. (No reissue) And it's totally your fault.
I thank you, Matt!
I love your guitar and your playing. Keep going dude. Thanks for the videos
lovin the variety of the videos man! could watch you play for hours, great stuff. greetings from finland✌🏻☮️
Appreciate the lessons, man. Super insightful. Honestly I take away a new piece of knowledge every time I watch your vids, not just in lessons
I love that your rigs are all old school ... Like before my time old school ... Can't wait to see you when you've came full circle and sound like you
I agree with everything you said. Tall frets and med-high action are very important to me for making bends easier, especially the high e string.
Absolutely love your playing
Sick! Love those open E runs 🔥
Great show, thanks. I can’t wait to start practicing tomorrow.
Great lesson! Thanks Matthew!
Thank you for taking the time to share this.
Peace
Love your playing
Terrific.
Great video, thanks Matthew.
Thank you!
Good advice. Well put.
Tip #3 really rung out! (Pun intended). I started recording myself on my phone and realised that the sound of my playing was different from what I could hear while playing the guitar. And that has helped a lot in voicing the notes and picking better. Thanks a lot for keeping these videos coming! Big fan from India!
Thank you for the Secrets to Bending video. Greatly appreciated. It gives me ideas on how to improve my bending technique, which needs a lot of improvement. Also lOoking forward to hearing more about the history of your firebird!
You are so welcome!
Your bends and vibrato are severely righteous. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for sharing your skills - great videos
The secret ingredient is love ❤️
@@joebryant8500 both works in this case :D
Yeah but you got too have some F$%@! S#&%! C$#%! In there too👍
Good take. It takes love to practice.
agreed!
Thanks for the good tips. Appreciate it!👍😎🎸🎶
Thank u more lessons!
Love your videos!
Great video as always..2thumbs up.
Bends with vibrato are my issue.
This guy's tutorials on Clapton's vibrato styles helped me a lot: ua-cam.com/video/K3bgWTgSPPQ/v-deo.html
Let the string bend back in just push it back out again
@@lukeweston1234 I was about to reply easier said than done but I tried it with that in mind and it dramatically improved my vibrato bending ahahah. sometimes it just takes pointing out the obvious...
ALT3REDB3AST you should tune your guitar a half step or a whole step down and practice bending with vibrato for a week or two. When you’ve mastered it you can then tune your guitar back to normal and try mastering it. It should make it easier and funnier because it will feel like you’re making a lot of progress without hurting your fingers too much
@@orenalbertmeisel3127 that's a clever idea! Thanks!
Hey Matthew, This is the first time I've sen any of your videos. I am amazed at how far you can bring your thump over the top, looks like you could fret all the way to the D string. This was a good lesson, I'll keep watching. Thanks........
I guess I been working on that for awhile. Glad you're here Scott!
keep em coming Matt. very helpful Thanks
Love it! - only recently discovered your channel matthew, but your playing, tone, taste in kit and really affable on camera manner has been an inspiration. And you know what? I set up a channel years ago to do exactly as you say - learn from how things sound to try to self improve. Brought it back to life earlier this year, after seeing some of your vids👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 love ya man x 🎸🎸🎸 13:03
Nice video, I always look forward to your uploads.
that means a lot to me.
Great playing man. Cool vid.
Dude your vibrato is incredible. Big, wide, and sweet sounding.
I really appreciate your channel. My escape from mainstream media. Thanks
Great info! Thanks for sharing with YT!! Good on you!!!
Thanks for watching!
...more than a lesson my friend, it felt more like sharing insights, nothing like the real deal...10x for the "it took me a while to get it right" 😁...keep it up...cheers🤘
Dude, your tone is MASSIVE!!
thanks!
Can you do a lesson on those fast open E licks?
Good to get up this morning to find a new video release from you Matthew 🤠
Thanks for sharing your useful bending tips.
Looking forward to the firebird updates too. 🎸
PEACE
im glad you are here George.
@@MatthewScottmusic always 🤠🎸
Mastering your bending is a feat to accomplish...cool video
though I long since know how to bend, I came on to see how you would show someone who doesn't. good tips for sure. that slide into a step and a half bend is a common Clapton move. sometimes he even bends two steps. one more tip to add for new players would be to know what note they are bending to so they can hit it accurately. a half step bend is the note one fret up, whole step bend is the note two frets up and so forth. play that note first and then bend to it. great lesson.
great tips man.. thanks!
Bravo !!!
loved it! :) thank you
Geez, the video already started on fire
Dude I really like your voice. I see a big future for you, and I hope I can buy your record soon!
that means so much to me.
Mathew when I first starting play bass I had a death grip on the neck , I learned real fast to relax
Can't wait to hear that Firebird crunch!!!
Great video man. Love you videos aesthetic and all the rare guitars you have! Would love to see more tip videos like this. Thanks!
thank you very much Brad.
Thanks! I'll try some of those tips like the thumb over the top. I've spent years keeping the thumb off the fret board. It goes back to my classical guitar teacher having me keep the thumb on the back of the neck preferably along the truss rod stripe.
that's right. classical teaching told us not to.
Bending and vibrato is something I don't have trouble with plus I'm getting better at it. I was having trouble with pull-offs but I'm getting better with that too using the length of the neck is something I need to do more of I'm getting better at that as well practice practice practice
Great Video, thanks!
thanks for watching.
Matthew
Thanks, listen to your self,is
Great advice.
Bob
Hella helped thanks man!
Jo i love your channel. magnificent playing. i´d like to see some content about truss rod/ bridge adjustment and setting action on vintage strats. keep up the good work !
great ideas for the future!
Good one!
Some Mean playing there Matthew! Love it. Great lesson, awesome vid. Subbed ✌️
thank you for being here Tristan.
Beast Matt
Great video mate👍👍
Good on you bro!!
Joe Walsh, the bend maestro...Great Video MS...👍😃
Great one!
Well done Brother, Helpful to many I'm Sure! Thanks for sharing Matthew! Be Well All!
( I'm not shaving either!)
Hey Great lesson to revisit my bendings :) Amazing ripping licks you got there !!!
I just Came across This ,Great Tips Bro Forshore Cheers
Great stuff there Matthew. I always think that stevies vibrato always seemed to be completely in time with the song. It wasn’t just a random shake like many other players do, he made the heavy vibrato swing with the song like on so excited. But he would also be really subtle with it on tunes like Lenny but always he gets it to sing with the timing of the tune. Regards from Liverpool.
Hello my friend and thank you for your videos which are very enriching at least concerning me.
I have a lot of shortcomings that I am trying to correct with the advice you give.
I am very passionate about Stevie Ray Vaughan like you, but unfortunately not with as much talent concerning me, but I do what I love and I think that is part of the essential. Continue your videos and give us some more advice.
Cordially.
Hugo the little Frenchman.
👍
The vintage strat even the r.i. are all awesome too play ...I love playing blues with a strat...bending Is effortless...but still ya need good technique or it's easy to over shoot your intended end note..love your playing man...your videos are a great inspiration too many up n coming strat heads.....peace
Exceptional. Many some day you can share some tips or exercises about your spectacular vibrato technique!
Nice. Just found you. Subscribed right away.
Excellent video Matt you have such a good tone and that 57 strat is a jem such a awesome sound you got and you found what works for you I'm trying to perfect my tone I was an all 80's guitar player been playing for over 30 years and I'm starting from scratch perfecting my blues and keeping that blues tone but trying for my own style with a twist of SRV Robert Trower vs Hendrix I'm sure all this has been done but unfortunately I spent a lot of years listening to Steve Vie and George lynch I should of spent more time listening to SRV Hendrix and Trower. Great video Matt be safe brother 👍👊
Love the strat use from that era of late 50s early 60s on the channel
SIIIICK!!!!!!! GREETINGS FROM BRAZIL!!!!!
3 great tips! Summarized, you can apply them to learning any technique, not just bending.
1) Use your hands right
2) Set up your instrument
3) Practice, analyze, repeat
I’ve never heard anyone point out the particular results from action height like this. Thanks
Nice vid! Peace
You deserve more followers.
hell yeah
love this kind of lesson. Could you make a video on how you dial an amp to get your tone, you plug on a new amp, what s your way to dial knobs. thanks
that's a great idea!
Looking forward to the firebird video.
Instruments for you sound life 😊
You`re Nice! I try now to make a lot of bends! ;P
GOLD
Killer man!!!!!
Fretboard radius is key for me. I've two Strats with a 9.5 and a 12 inch radius. I just can't get along with 7.25 guitars. Very interesting to hear you've got updates for the Firebird. Can't wait..
