    Today we share a propagation video for the Autumn with our hardy salvia "Hot Lips" 🙂

    Salvia gregii is one of our go-to plants here in Texas, but our nurseries do not typically stock named varieties. ‘Hot Lips’ is the first thing we planted at our first home 38 yrs ago. Now I want more ‘Moonlight’ a beautiful, full-flowering variety which can be hard to find. So I will propogate my own in these last of the warm fall days! Thank you for the tutorial.

      Hello Carolyn - thank you for watching and for your comment - so interesting to us that you are in Texas. "Moonlight" sounds beautiful. May we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year All the best 🌸

    Love this hearty plant! It was a fraction of it’s eventual size(huge) when I first planted it. Trimmed and planted my cuttings to winter inside. Will plant in several spots in my pollinator garden this coming spring. Thank you for the great tips!❤️

      Thank you for your lovely message - we set up the channel initially as an aid for our students and it’s great to think we are on the right track - thing to remember is keep your cuttings warm at the base for this time of year All the best 🌸

    Lovely job, I do love this plant.
    The one in my parents garden is massive!
    I took cuttings from it around 3 years ago and they are really big and healthy.
    Brilliant stuff👍🏻

    Not just a great video - but a smashing course in horticulture. I'm really enjoying all your videos as I'm currently doing the online RHS Level 2 course in horticulture, and these are an excellent way of actually seeing an expert doing what I'm trying to visualise! You also both have an easy teaching style which makes things look so much easier to do, and gives me more confidence to actually go and do it. Thanks again for your time and effort - although it comes across that you both love doing it anyway. Cheers

    Thank you for the great video....I did find the end rather confusing though as you don't explain what do with them after they 'have rooted in a few months'. I don't have a propogator and I have some cuttings which I took a month or two back. I don't have a green house or a cold frame. So now what do I do with them?
    Should I get a polytunnel just for cuttings ? Or can I plant them out in the garden. Written 3rd Oct 2021

    • @JohnHorseyHorticulture
      @JohnHorseyHorticulture  2 роки тому

      Hi Susan - thank you for watching and for your comment: If they have rooted you need to grow them on throughout the Winter protected from any frost and excess wet and then plant them outside next Spring - we will be putting up a video on protecting plants throughout Winter shortly All the best 🌸
