    Great video!! I'll give my 2 cents in case others want extra value from watching this video:
    I am a storyteller on UA-cam. My voice (up close and personal) is the most MAJOR component to my channel. Switching to a Shure SM7B was the best decision I ever made in terms of production. I recently had a Blue Yeti (which I loved) but the Shure created a sound that was above-and-beyond.
    If you are a UA-camr whose voice is a major component to your channel - a podcaster or a storyteller - then you would do no wrong in purchasing this mic. In fact - you might never need to upgrade again!! How about that for ease of mind!!!

    good to see you back Awall, I just finally upgraded to the SM7B and I say its way worth it than eventually having to buy 3 or 4 usb mics in the span of 10 years. Also, if you really believe that you will level up and grow, and/or get into music like all youtubers do, this is also worth it.

      @@DivinityRo3e The grill design of the sm7b makes it so you can't get right up to the diaphragm, forcing you to use more gain also pushing up the noises around. Something like an SM58/SM57 (with a windscreen), RE320/RE20 or Røde Procaster (with a windscreen) would allow you to get closer if background noise rejection is all you care about.

    Short answer: No. There are cheaper mics for hobbyists that work just fine. The SM7B is kind of the "so and so uses it, so I have to buy it" mic. Most hobbyists don't even have the equipment to effectively use a SM7B. It's kind of like the guitarists that think buying a $3,000 guitar will instantly improve their playing.

      This. I've built a 7-figure online business using only a $99 USB mic.

    You’re using a gate noise filter. You can clearly hear how it opens and closes when you talk and stop talking.

    • @learnkajabi
      @learnkajabi 2 роки тому +3

      Exactly. You can get a very similar result using only a $99 USB mic and some audio post production with the free Audacity app. Just have to be slightly more careful with plosives, or add a pop filter.

    Every XLR mic needs an audio interface and some sort of stand or arm, You do not need a cloud lifter

    Great video :) just a little add - the rodecaster pro 2 doesn’t need a cloudlifter.

    I don’t know about “best” isolation, the best I know about would be the Audix OM7 right up against the microphone. However, that requires a lot of mic technique and you have to actually train yourself to use it properly, so yeah the SM7b very good for just non-effort isolation without having to do anything special

    Keep in mind that the Rodecaster Pro 2, doesn't need the cloudlifter or similar. The Rodecaster 2 has more than enough gain for the SM7b and any pre-amps connected between the microphone and the mixer, will bring more noise. So for the Rodecaster 1, yes you need a cloudlifter, the Rodecaster 2, don't even think about a cloudlifter. The SM7b is a mic that you buy "for life" so yes the price is high but it's worth the money. It's a "close mic" so you need to be near the microphone. And even though it eliminates a lot of background noise, a couple of them in one room still can bring problems when put close to each other. With 3 people or more, keep at least 60 inch between the mic's and soundproof the room.

    6:14 - all of this is adding up to a significant *AFFILIATE commission* to all the people who push these kinds of products. I'm here to tell you from personal experience that you can create a 7-figure online business using just a $99 USB mic like a Samson CO1U or Blue Yeti, etc. I've done it. Even though I owned & operated a highly technical recording studio in my past, I still use only a $99 USB mic.
