Dean your English is fine. English is just f@cked. There are actually 3 different ways to pronounced "ed" at the end of a word. Departed (standard ed sound) Baked F@cked (t sound i.e bay kt), Based or Destined (d sound ie de-stind). If I remember correctly from teaching English the rule is based on the consonent before the ed sound. Depends if you're a rule guy or a trial and error guy.
