Profoto Pro-D3 is it the relentless upgrade to the Profoto D2 workhorse?!

We spent some time with renowned beauty photographer Chantelle Kemkemian to get her thoughts on the Profoto Pro-D3 head. This new head from Profoto replaces the D2 monolight that Profoto has been manufacturing since 2016, and is used worldwide by many incredible photographers. We wanted to know if the replacement unit was worth upgrading to, and what the advantages of the Pro D3 were over the D2.

We discovered that the build quality and reliability had been improved by increasing the Wattage by 250 w/s to 1250 and 750, respectively, over the previous units for the D2, which were 1000 w/s and 600 w/s. An eco mode had been added to the units to limit the output by approximately 10% but ensured extending the life of the head by two times. The flash tube had been replaced with a Quartz tube, and capacitors had been upgraded to extend the usage life, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability.
