    When I first arrived in US in the late 70's, Tarla Dalal's recipe book was my prized procession. I still have it, a bit worn out though. I occasionally refer to Ms. Dalal's recipes, they are easy to follow and the food turns out delicious. Thank you Ms. Dalal and your Oondhiya recipe is flavorful and sumptuous.

    Recepy dekh kar hostel days yaad aa gaye mam. Happy home and school Worli mumbai me hamein kabhi kabhi ye sabzi milti thee. Meri sab se favourite gujarati dish.

    This is much better and simpler (also healthy) recipe compared to other I saw. One question- Why keep banana with peel for cooking? The peel may have pesticides and chemicals on it. Can we just use peeled banana?

      If the bananas peeled and added it will get mashed in the cooking process.. Just make sure you wash the bananas and then add them with the peel..

    beautiful i have tasted only once and it was too oily and i hate too much of oily food but you are really the best cook in the world that showing us such light tasty healthy traditional oondhiya.... thanks tarla mam.....

    my question is what is yam...? is it necessary to use it or any substitue is also available... i have never tasted it so.... and i dont know will we get it in bangalore also...?

    One more great recipes from you again, I have cooked it before and it took me three hours and needed lots of oil. This method is really cool - cooks faster and very little oil. It looks yummy, just wondering about taste will it differ much from that cooked with plenty of oil? Not sure. Thanks a lot again.......... appreciated.

    Tarla ji .. we donot eat onion & Garlic so what can i replace garlic with? pls let me know as my husband is an oondhiyo fan... though we are tamilians based out of mum... my husband loves gujarati food... at our place gujrati food is our daily diet..

      coconut is the main taste in oondhiya, use less if you wish....
