    Peter, you are honestly the most selfless person. Mary is so lucky to have you. Mary may be the one with the sickness but you are the one who stays strong for her. And you have to be strong for her and that must be hard. It must be a lot of stress and pressure for you. And not a lot of people realize how hard it is for you. People only see that Mary is the one with the illness so shes the only one who suffers. No one pays much attention to the caregiver and those around the one with the illness. Just know that at least I recognize just how much you do.

      +Deanna Webb I agree. It's a lot of work to be sitting in the hospital not as the patient. I've been sick a lot and my moms the one who sits with me the most. I usually make them a goody bag when someone goes with me to have surgery or if I'm in the hospital and they stay with me.

    It's great to see you smiling and in good spirits, Mary! When I worked at McDonalds, my store manager made us say "thank you, stop back" to every single customer, and it was the most awkward thing ever. We would get yelled at if we said any other farewell. I understand that encouraging repeat business is important, but it drove me crazy. It became such a habit that I even said it to the pizza guy once when he delivered to my house! Yikes! I always had a good laugh when customers would reply with "thanks, you too" hehe

    thank you Peter, because I think what you do well, is reassure her she's beautiful (she is), and also just LISTEN. I think it's scary if a person is not heard, it's lonely no matter who else is around you. One person that listens, makes us feel heard and loved.

    Hi Mary! I'm Amanda and I'm 16 years old and have CF as well (late diagnosis at 14!) and I've never been very compliant until recently when I started watching your channel and now I've been doing my breathing treatments every day while I watch your videos! I just want to thank you for inspiring me to take care of myself better and to stay healthy ❤️

    • @deiw1970
      @deiw1970 8 років тому +1

      +Sydney Rohmann I agree. My veins are so picky. They actually have to bring in a ultrasound tech to locate them. It has been like that for as long as I can remember. I am so use to it now that I tell them....only 2 tries then get the machine...it is painful and leaves bruises

    I'm so glad you're feeling better Mary! You guys are so funny making your own wing dip dressing, looked yummy! hopefully your tummy agrees too. :-) I know what you mean about tricky veins, sometimes it will take 6 times after 6 different people try with me, but found out that a small shot of lidocaine in that area, before they stick you works perfect, you don't feel a thing while they poke you. :-) Ollie is so cute sitting there on the bed with you while you have PT, such a companion. And Peter you are so cute while you look at Mary with those loving caring supportive eyes when she tells you thank you for talking care of her. You guys are the best, love you lots. Love and hugs to the 3 of you, see you tomorrow!

    So with you there on the bloodwork! I do not have CF, but a vascular disease, and have to get bloodwork done and get surgery fairly often. I always joke that my mum is the only one who gets the veins on the first try because she made me (she was an ER assistant, now works at the bloodwork clinic, sorry no idea what that's called in English :) ). Really nice to see you talk about respectfully declining to be the trainee guinea pig so to speak. There's nothing wrong with asking for someone who doesn't have to fish around for the veins if you've already been stabbed with a needle so often. Good luck and take care :)

  • @saramarriott1990

    I know you obviously don't film/share everything but it really seems like you're coughing less, Mary! I also wanted to say that your upbeat attitude whilst I'm the hospital is so inspiring and impressive. Hospitals can be dreary places but you guys don't seem to look at it that way. Well wishes to you both and of course Ollie, who is looking adorable as ever :)

    • @thefreylife
      @thefreylife  8 років тому

      +Sara Marriott The less coughing is due to the fact that I'm sitting still all day, and not walking around or going places...but when we get home, we will be able to tell if my coughing has improved or not :) Thanks so much for cheering us on in this journey!

    I totally feel you on the bloodwork thing. I've had so much blood drawn in the past 3 years because of my chronic illness, and sometimes the person doing it just doesn't listen. In one arm, it's impossible to get blood. In the other, the vein is really deep and rolls a lot. If they aren't really really gentle, I end up with gigantic bruises that last for weeks. If they would just listen to me, I wouldn't always be so uncomfortable!

  • @LifewithKrystle
    @LifewithKrystle 8 років тому +1

    I'm so there with you on the blood work. For me it isn't so much my veins roll but they are super hard to find. I have come to know which arm has the best luck and my usual nurse who does it is great at finding it without much pain or fuss but anyone else or ones in the ER have often had to poke me 2-4 times in various spots or they will poke me thinking they have it and then do the fishing thing. Ugh! I use to faint from getting blood drawn so if it's not my usual nurse I lay down in case they poke more than once cause of they poke more than once I'm out cold lol

    I love the hospital cooking show LOL. It sparked my appetite which is much needed as I ain't got no NG in my nose / in my nose 😆
    And warning the phlebotomist is always so funny. They always brush it off, like what does this girl know about her veins? I can only imagine the stories people tell them.... I'm excited for the day some fancy machine can check drug levels without needing blood!

    Oh and I TOTALLY understand about getting your blood drawn. I have very tiny veins and they roll. I've had to ask for a different nurse cause the one I was assigned to wasn't good. My sisters a nurse so sometimes they let her get my IV or blood work. She's awesome at getting hard sticks. If it wasn't for my sister I wouldn't be alive. She knew what was wrong with me when I had my first bowel obstruction in the hospital when I went for something different. I was in a coma at the time. I was less than an hour from dying when finally the dr agreed to do a cat scan. They rushed me to the OR. 😀 I'm thankful for everyone that's in my life.

    I'm so glad you guys had a good day yesterday ❤️ my first and only job was at our grocery store Jewel Osco but I ended up being too sick to work 😕👎🏼. I'm glad they're monitoring your oxygen, I know when my saturation goes down and I have a hard time breathing my cheeks get really pink and I get uncomfortable too. They've been like that all week since I've been dealing with pneumonia, I most likely will be joining you in the hospital club sometime soon since the oral antibiotics aren't working and I'm getting worse but hopefully both of us will be feeling at least a little bit better soon ❤️

    I love it when people say “My pleasure”! My dad made a good point: when you say thank you, a lot of servers say no problem. There was no indication of a problem. I like the more “intentional” phrase my pleasure, I don’t think it’s forced.

    You guys are honestly the cutest couple ever. I feel you Mary! I have a tumor, it is stable and benign (non changing and non cancrous) anyway it gets checked on so i get needles all the time, be it ivs to inject dye for tests to highlight the area of the tumor, or drawn blood, now the ivs are way worse as they are 10x bigger! so there is this one nurse who i like to do it because sheis good at it, but one time a trainor did it and i was nice and let her do it even though i really didnt want her too! AND SHE MISSED MY VEIN!!!!!! AND HAD TO POKE MY OTHER ARM TO GET THAT VEIN!!!

    Very creative for hospital food! At lurie children's they don't have chicken strips I think but next time I go I'll check! Also, it's so annoying the food is never warm lol! They should make food heaters that they give to you when your food comes so that you can make it warm!

    Hi, I am a phlebotomist and most states you are not allowed to fish around and they are supposed to Anchor the vein anyway weather it rolls or not. I listen to my patient because they know their own veins. xoxo from California.

      +Jean Lee I've always had them fish around in my arm because the vein is deep and rolls... Sometimes they stick me multiple times and fish around every single time :( I always leave with huuuuuge bruises.

    It was my second time getting my blood drawn and the first time was almost painless so i wasnt very nervous (even though im terrified of needles so thats good for me) and she stuck me and my vein moved, she was fishing around for it and found it and it hurt bad, but i made it through stood up with my mom by a bed and her and my mom were talking and my vision got fuzzy she looked at me and said are you ok (or so i was told i dont remember) i blacked out and woke on the floor on my moms lap confussed and light headed. I am even more terrified of needles now, yay /:(

      Mine is an emotional support animal. They are not allowed in. That is what I was talking about. I referred to my cat as a pet, even as some owners of service dogs and others sometimes refer the them as pets. I am well aware pets are not allowed in the hospital.

    I know this is an old video but I just wanted to let you know, I totally get the whole rolling vein ordeal. My veins also are notorious rollers but when I warn the person taking my blood they always nood when I let them know, miss, and then fish around in my arm with a needle while saying "Oh! They really do roll!" Like I was lying the entire time...

      +The Frey Life By the way, I know that when I'm in the hospital with lots of time on my hands, I watch movies. I recently watched these two wonderful films on Indieflix (through my library): This Way of Life and Closure. Closure (2013 directed by Bryan Tucker) is a film about a young woman's search for her birth mother, filmed and directed by her husband. It's sweet.
      This Way of Life (2009, directed by Thomas Burstyn) is one of the best I've seen, ever. About a family (mum, dad, seven kids) breeding horses in the New Zealand mountains, living a VERY simple life with a deep devotion to and trust in God. This one I'm sure you will like, since you want to live on a farm, and the background natural environment is breathtaking. Hope you get to see them. Hugs and Prayers.
