  • Diving, Mexico (July 3, 2021). Wreck ship, Riviera Maya. Mama Vina Wreck
The wreck, Mama Vina, is one of the farthest dive spots from the port in Playa del Carmen with a 35-minute boat ride. Mama Viña is an old crab boat that was deliberately sunk in 1995 to create an artificial reef and is now one of the top dive sites in the Riviera Maya.
Here you can dive down in a free descent through the blue water to a depth of 30 meters. The moderate current automatically carries you to the bow, which faces the current. You commonly see big green moray eels, barracudas, and turtles as well as smaller marine life, such as the school of glassy sweepers that are permanent residents of the wreck. With a little luck, you can even find bull sharks here in the winter months.
Due to the maximum depth of 30 meters, this dive site is exclusively for those who already hold their Advanced Open Water Diver certification. For the nitrox divers among us, we offer nitrox for free to enjoy the wreck for as long as possible.
