Im best friends with Mark and crewed for Karl and Mark for awhile after coming over from Bob Briscoe. Mark got tired of being away from his wife and kids, the outlaw schedule back then was brutal. He also wanted to spend more time with his mom and dad Karl due to health problems. Mark mows grass and has a small land scape business around Olitic. Mark is the coolest guy you ever met unlike his cousin Steve. In a lot of ways Mark was just as talented as Steve but never tore up as much equipment as Steve did. Mark didn’t fall of he just got tired of being on the road. Hope this helps👍

I've listened to an interview each with Mark and his dad Karl, and while it was probably a good time to walk away, a crash he had in Fargo towards the end gave him a head injury that he still deals with. That, along with wanting to watch his kids grow up, led to the decision to walk away.
I stayed a Mark's house for a few days in July this summer (2023). He is truly enjoying retirement and has no regrets of walking away. He and Karl are restoring old cars and enjoying the simple things in life. And yes, he is a great guy to this day.
Last time I saw Tyler Walker, he had failed to get out of the B for the Gold Cup Main on Saturday night in Chico. As he left the track he kicked it sideways and showered the 3rd turn pit grandstands with rocks and clods hitting several people including Jimmy Sills and Jimmy Boyd. Instantly, everybody in those stands were furious. As soon as Tyler stopped at his trailer at least 50 people were on the way from the stands to kick his ass. As the pissed off fans got to the trailer, the crew told em Tyler was hiding up front in the trailer. I don't know if anybody got to him or not. He was lucky that whole bunch didn't get ahold of him. He could have been one of the best, but, nobody misses what he turned into, one huge horses ass.

Mark said a head injury in the early 00s affected his performance. He was in the Roth ride for awhile and didn't perform up to his expectations so he left. Last time I saw him he was at the Knoxville Nationals and finished 6th or 7th and that was the last time I saw him driving. 05 ish , somewhere around there.
Cody Darrah is still 100% one of the biggest "what ifs" ive ever seen in sprint car racing. He was just never the same after he broke his leg while doing outlaw traveling. Who knows what happens if he doesn't break his leg and his momentum gets halted before it even started. The other reality of course is that the #4 car just was not as fast as the #9 at any point no matter the driver. Cody was quite literally just getting going even with 2015 being as successful as it was, and then just...vanished. Even if he took over his dads business, I'm surprised he wouldn't keep going at least locally, leading to the first option being the most likely. Just didn't feel like racing anymore.
Other issue with mark...was his dad karl...karl knew how to make cars work...thats why mark did so good early yrs karl was on steves car...u see how fast steve was..ask any kinser how fast u cud be with karl at the wrenches...
I think Mark was the first guy trying to get Doug Wolfgang out of his car when it was on fire if my memory serves. A naturally heroic sob. Totally selfless
Last time I seen Tyler walker, he was at the kings royal Joey Saldana got injured at (Kings Royal ‘11) Tyler walker actually won that night never to be heard from again. Come to find out, he started doing drugs and came back to the Kings royal in 2015 with a different demeanor and everything. I felt bad for the guy
You may want to check out Mark's interview from 2011 in Speed Sport News. He said point blank that the lingering affects from his concussion is what lead to his decision to stop racing. It was a very good interview, and was what made me realize that I had suffered from a severe concussion in 1992. I had a lot of the same symptoms that Mark mentioned in that interview. That last night in the Sprint Car I hit the wall hard enough that they had replaced a 20 ft section of concrete wall where I had hit it. The only thing we were able to salvage from the car was the steering wheel. My seat didn't even survive that crash.
I had heard people saying he had depth perception issues but I could never find an article or confirmation on that. I was surprised to hear that this was the case, just because in the NSCHOF interview with him, he didn’t mention it whatsoever while talking about his retirement. I never realized how many drivers have had head problems until recently.
@@slidejobdom I just tried finding a link or any information on that interview, with no luck. I may have been in 2012 seeing how that is when they first issued the magazine format. I seem to think it was around the time of the Nationals when the issue with his interview was released. Hope that helps if you want to investigate further.

I have found some information on the third turn, and the only video is from Hutchingson KS at a USA show in "89. If you are Curious. I am Kenny French, I raced several USA shows in my rookie year. I was even with them on their Eastern swing that year.

Bobby Davis Jr. was a great driver who simply got fed up with the long WoO schedule. Won his only title in ‘90 I believe for Casey Luna and went back to Memphis to run his family electrical business. As I understand, he’s doing well and enjoying life.
A young racer I was very disappointing. Didn’t make it very far due to personal reasons was Cameron Dodson. I watched him race a lot when he was 15 and 16 and I think he could’ve been every bit as good as Kyle Larson.
Jeff Swindell would be interesting… he never fully dissapeared, but he went from full time Outlaw to local stock car guy, to sprint car driver again… He was all over the place afyer leaving the Two Winners 107 Octane Outlaw car.
Kinda like how Mark Kinser was very different than Steve, Jeff was very different than Sammy. Sammy never seemed happy but Jeff was quite friendly and every interview always made it seem like he really enjoyed what he was doing. I remember one year when the Outlaws came to town when I was probably 7 or 8 years old, Jeff ended up taking out a quarter of the front straight catch fence during the A-main. They interviewed him while they were untangling his car and fixing the fence and he said "yeah I think we can make it back out" and half the crowd laughed or went "what?!" but sure enough, before they even finished the fence they had a spare car down and ready to roll out. After the race when we were walking through the pits looking at stuff and kinda keeping our distance from most of the cars/teams to stay out of the way, he walked away from his car out to us and said hello and took us up in the trailer and showed his spare engines and cabinets full of spare parts and chatted to my dad for awhile, easily the nicest guy there.
I always lived Mari kinser he did decent, but Steve is the one I got tattooed sliding from turn four at eldora at the kings royal. I forget the year dad took the photo when we were playing under the stands lol

Mark Kinser is no puzzle to those of us who had followed his career from the start. Mark started out driving a thrown together car for Karl. After that, he was in a series of really good rides, especially the Reid's Deisel #6. Then he drove for Karl and the rest is historty. Karl was so much better and brighter than anyone else turning wrenches on sprint cars that he made the really good mechanics like Gary Stanton, Kenny Woodruff, and Deuce Turrell look bad. When Karl decided to retire, Mark was not able to secure a ride anywhere near as good as he had. His production dropped off dramatically and I assume at that point he just decided that it wasn't worth it anymore. It is pretty hard for a racer to stop driving and become a fan. You don't see it very often. A lot of them just leave. A good example of this is Andy Hillenburg from Oklahoma. When he got out of the car, he didn't even go to races anymore. There are exceptions, of course but they are usually not as successful as Mark was. They might still go to races and possibly even have a second career centered around racing, like Shane Carson.

Cody and joey were so good to watch! Aggressive driving styles and running the cushion. Joey made contact with another car going for 3rd place after the car in front slammed the door on him forcing him to roll and joey been sent rear of field, having cody finish 4th
Chuck Rock from gibsonton. Riverview Auto wrecking raw racing. they built their cars 4 East Bay raceway. Chuck was murdered by the boyfriend of an ex-girlfriend. the guy threw a gallon of gasoline into the truck and burnt Chuck alive. the man got burnt but he survived the woman got life in prison. an entire group of sprint car drivers and builders just got out of it. sometimes the death of one friend changes everyone. God bless you Chuck it's been twenty years and I still miss you...
Im pretty sure mark got out because it was too much balancing racing and a family. His son is a friend of mine and in his own words that's how it came off. It was just too much and "too addicting"
Ever find anything on Ohio late model driver from the 60’s 70’s and I believe some of the 80’s. I never met my grandfather m, Gary Ute, he had a late model diet car races Friday. Sat. Sunday every weekend. Lots at Muskingham speedway, Mansfield race way, buckeye, and Wayne county speedway. And it was an orange car with thumper on the hood or door, and road runner in the back. Any photos or videos of him winning wrecking or anything would be amazing to see on a video of classic late models drivers. If there was all stars and a national circuit or Lucas oil, he would’ve been in there. He raced a lot with old Danny dean, and delmus Conley, and many more greats

That's exactly what happened to him. Saw him down at Uncle Karl's about 3 weeks ago. He's doing fine. Has a lawn mowing business.

Tyler Walker was the OG Kyle Larson. I loved watching Tyler race. He was so exciting. Doing his front flips down the front stretch when he won
I say he's the biggest waste of talent in racing history. Fast in literally anything. Could have won in NASCAR but couldn't stay clean.

Ever find anything on Ohio late model driver from the 60’s 70’s and I believe some of the 80’s. I never met my grandfather m, Gary Ute, he had a late model diet car races Friday. Sat. Sunday every weekend. Lots at Muskingham speedway, Mansfield race way, buckeye, and Wayne county speedway. And it was an orange car with thumper on the hood or door, and road runner in the back. Any photos or videos of him winning wrecking or anything would be amazing to see on a video of classic late models drivers. If there was all stars and a national circuit or Lucas oil, he would’ve been in there. He raced a lot with old Danny dean, and delmus Conley, and many more greats
