As a classically trained pianist, the rhythm was definitely the most foreign concept to get down right away. Unravel took me three weeks, I can't imagine performing it in an hour! Hope you get the opportunity to get through the whole arrangement.
Yoooo it’s fanchen, the rush e guy. Your rush e cover was so good I was honestly so surprised lol
Ah yes, the guy who brought himself up by bringing someone else down. Classic
lol yeah never expected to see you here! Also 3 weeks for this is still insane! I wish I could finish it in a year
@@maximecloutier-gravel8908 that's how the real world works ya dork , ain't always sunshine and roses
What are you doing here lol
This was the most unexpected crossover ever. Animenz is truly a master when it comes to scoring. I would love to see you try more of his pieces!
I think she's traumatized lol
Liiiiink
Pls more of this :)
What is scoring btw?
So would I!
Seeing an expert pianist struggle so much makes me feel so much better about my beginner level playing. Thank you for having such a good sense of humour about it!
as a non-pianist, I feel the opposite, I was thinking that if she, the expert, struggled so much, then piano must be really really really hard to learn, like if the expert struggled for this, then what about me, a person who struggled to play twinkle twinkle little star correctly haha
Também sou iniciante
Ver que todos tem dificuldade mostra que estamos no caminho certo.
@@haikal.hamidy keep in mind she only really struggle because she learn it in a short amount of time and was sight reading , she probably can nail that whole piece in a day and thats crazy incredible sight reading at that
@@JaeFreshmen yeah that's my point, seeing how good she is in short amount of time, I feel like I'm useless haha I guess piano isn't for me
@@haikal.hamidy "short time" after countless hours/years of practice even before she made her channel anything can be accomplish within time my friend , just gotta start
Animenz really pushed the limits of piano playing and arranging skills with this cover.
he wrote the story of composing this piece in his description. rly interesting. basically he was playing a lot of chopin and rachmaninof while composing this, that's why it's so fcking difficult and complex/virtuous
@@vivago727 Yeah I saw the description. The techniques in that arrangement (3-hand tech, rapid jumps, one-note tremolos) remind me of some pieces by LIszt and Rachmaninoff.
And yeah this arrangement is sadistically difficult (technically and musically) that even Animenz himself would have to simplify a few sections during his live concerts to conserve his energy.
Also this arrangment is extremely faithful to the original song which is why I think its his most popular arrangement (along with that it's insanely hard).
Pushed the limits of piano playing is a stretch, but yes, this arrangement is really good, and quite challenging.
@@dhruvsawant9234 no, the term "pushed the limit" here is very appropriate, notice how everyone that try to do this cover don't play it as flawless as animenz
@@patnaakbar3573 he's the arranger though? So he's clearly extremely well versed with the material, and knows exactly how he wanted it to sound. And there are some good covers, where the pianists learnt it in only a few weeks(which isn't a lot). There are so many pieces that are a lot harder than this too. So, you can't really call it 'pushing the limits of the piano'.
That's something I'd use to describe things like the Chopin-Godowsky études, as Godowsky was able to demonstrate through those études the advantages that the left hand had over the right, which was something that hadn't been explored in as much detail as Godowsky did with them.
This… was… crazy… 😩😂🙈 hardest challenge so far 😝 which Anime are you watching right now?😁
I want to see you try the violet evergarden theme song by Animenz. It might be quite a challenge
Naruto!! 🤪
K-On. Würde mich, wenn du die gleiche Challenge mit dem Opening "Silhouette" von Naruto Shipudden machst.
Mob Psycho
I am watching the best anime in this worldline
El psy congroo!
Kind of reassuring that it's a struggle for everyone, classical pianists included LOL Animenz went off with this one. Also, I suck at sight reading rhythms too, you're definitely not alone!
Didn't expect that one! This is the arrangement that made me start piano 6 years ago, and I don't regret it lol
Don't worry you did great for only a bit more than 1 hour practice, as you said the rhythms are not easy on this one, + the large amount of polyphony and different techniques used. I don't know if you're aware btw but Animenz lived in Germany for a while and studied piano in german conservatoires. And he's a huge fan of Beethoven so that makes quite a few common points with him haha!
Do you mean polyrhythm? Polyphony is something else I think
@@KarateKarotte probably autocorrect lol
@@KarateKarotte i think It is polyphony, there are parts that have 3 voices
@@KarateKarotte polyphony refers to the presence of multiple voices in music; Animenz uses a lot of what he calls "three (or even four) hands techniques", when he play three (or more) distinct voices/melodies at the same time.
Several composers for piano have used it in the past (Bach is one of the best examples that comes to my mind), but it's not that frequent to see this in modern pop/anime piano covers.
@@KarateKarotte Actually I don't think Animenz uses that many polyrhythms? That would refer to triplets or quintuplets against 8th notes for examples and it's not much frequent.
Petition for anique to learn the whole piece and record it for us :) ✋🏻
Annique after this challenge: "Next time I´ll do something easier, like Rachmaninoff". All joking aside, I think it´s fun to see a great classical pianist like you try other types of music. I would love to see you do a jazz piano challenge, maybe a Bill Evans track or something. Could be a fun challenge.
great idea
funny joke but sadly this can't compare to most of rachmaninoff
@@tritone246 snob moment
@@na-kun2136 i bet you dont even know rachmaninoff's music
@@tritone246 yes prove your idiotism once again. Im classicaly trained musician. The fact that you love rachmaninoff or etc. Doesn't mean that its better or anything else. However, though Sergei Vasilevich was late romantic you cant say that Jazz better or worse than Rachmaninoff. Its just incompareable lol. Tho jazz vocabulary is more complex than Rachmaninoff. They both are good
You are my HERO!!! I’m classically trained, though no college or upper level study… My 21 year old son came to me just before Christmas and said seriously, “This is what I want for my 22nd birthday. Learn to play this song for me!” He even downloaded the music for me. I was so touched by his sweet request. Then, he handed me the sheet music with a devilish grin, and played Animenz’s video. His birthday is 1/25. Ummmm - so not funny!😂 I’m 50, I laugh the same way you laugh bc its so DIFFICULT! I put this to the side for a little, and told him I’ll work on Bluebird after his arrangement of Amazing Grace. I will say my youngest got me good!
I love your honesty and willingness to show the world even the best pianist have to take time to learn and practice a piece.
What a lovely story :D
Happy birthday to your son today!🎉
Okay, so I left a comment on your last challenge to do this arrangement, and now literally on my exact birthday this video gets released.
this lowkey feels like a birthday gift :))
Thank you
Maybe it just was
@@manishsigdel824 True, I'd like to believe that
Animenz scoring is absolutely insane. I am so impressed about how quickly you improved after just 1.5 hours
From my experience, this is one of those songs that can only be improved with time. The isn't as much mental gymnastics as it is physically. The techniques required to play this piece are some of the most frustrating imo: octaves, tremolo, fast arpeggios, and even repeated notes. Plus some poly rhythmic patterns that have to be played extremely fast. Leaps don't help neither. My advice is don't play this song without at least 5-7 years of experience. There is a lot of chopin and lisztian inspiration in this song from what animnez said, so that should be enough to give anyone an idea of what to expect. This was an excellent attempt, and I'd love to see her experience from page 3 onwards.
Rhythm is defiiiiinitely the thing I struggle with the most consistently. Like, any given technique feels like it just takes a reasonable bit of repetition, but internalizing rhythms that are dramatically different from what I'm used to takes like, 10x as long, every time. It's the sole thing that makes ragtime feel so difficult.
Well, I've played some of the Animenz's covers (Unravel not included; I've tried it once and found it way above my level). My favourite one is Kimi no shiranai monogatari (Bakemonogatari ED). Yeah, his covers are great, but really challenging (both technically and musically). For me those pieces are more than just covers; he used original songs and transformed them into real virtuosic piano masterpieces. And I really like his scores, because they are usually ok to read (well edited).
What classical musicians tend to forget is that for a person that doesn't play the instrument, hearing the musician play on such a high level and making mistakes still sounds absolutely amazing and impressive. Especially when the musician hasn't ever played the piece before. Even with the mistakes and imperfectuons in intonation u did an amazing job
As a begginer who tried this as his first piece and got incredibly frustrated after 2 months and left, I feel relieved. Gonna try again thanks to you!
Bruh. What were you doing 💀
bad idea to use this as a first piece. You won't learn much because you don't have the foundation for it.
@@elixerprince_art Easy pieces or intermediate pieces depending on ur grade, unravel is way too hard for beginners tho.
lmao try again in 10 years bro... this is the least beginner friendly piece out there
It's really interesting&fun watching
someone's practicing process😃
+I suggest animenz's My dearest (2020ver)
It's more classical sound and I really like it!!!!
My dearest +1
ye, a lot of classical techniques used.
i still love the original my dearest arrangement tho
@@solitairius. what is the difference tho?
@@serenade-6559 Go watch it. Its better that way, really
Im so happy you did it !
It shows how insane the arrangement is :)
It is nice that classically trained pianist say it too
This is new for me, a classical pianist playing unravel, such a beautiful song, but not so much as the piano version, animenz did a really good job
Also is a very hard work to learn that masterpiece in 1h 11 min and for that time you did it very well, it had an epic sound
I love that people can see the hard work behind it in your videos!❤️
"EIN UND ZWEI UND DREI UND...."
This was a delight to watch. Beautiful playing and valiant effort!
I can proudly say that I can play the first forty seconds of this piece(including the “the wall” part) but that was only after a literal YEAR of practice on just that part and it’s still not perfect. God that piece is so hard
I read "Are you playing more poop than classic" and my brain legit answered "yes, I do play more poop than classic."
As a self learning beginner, Animenz's arrangement of Unravel is simply a piece I'll probably never be able to learn, and I'm just in awe of other pianists playing it. Love your content, you gained yourself a subscriber!
Animenz is a classically trained pianist arranging his own anime songs. Love to watch this kind of content! Wish I could tag him for him to watch this! Subscribed! This is so much fun :-) More Animenz pieces challenge pls! :-)
As a very new pianist (3 years in!) this was SO encouraging!
I just want to say it's somewhat refreshing seeing that amazing musicians can an do struggle at times with new pieces and rhythms..
And the amount you improved in 1 hourish is hands down incredible...
You did an amazing job !!!👏👏🥰
Very unexpected upload! Have been following for a while and was surprised to see you attempt an Animenz arrangement.
Love from the anipiano community
This was so good even for just less than an hour worth of practice!! Wish we could hear you play the whole piece or a longer version someday! :)
This is so good, she was also honest at the end and said she was going to practice a little more haha. Great performance !!
This frustration is so relatable! Thank you for sharing this!
You should DEFINITELY keep practicing this piece!!! We're rooting for you!!!
Yeah I feel the struggle. I personally didn't have a problem with rhythms, since I was learning from a synht yt video.
Amazing progress in under 2 hours tbh. Would love to see you learn more of it or some other Animenz masterpieces
I would love to see you do a full cover of it! I really love this piece, it’s insanely good!
love how u still post till this day. ILOVEE ur piano challenges dudee u r so amazing ! :)
Ah….this brings back lots of memories of my son who was obsessed with this piece and he was playing this piece every single day for the entire year when it came out!!!
Still absolutely insane work for only around an hour and a half, awesome job
Tolles video. Als jemand der viele Fehler macht und erst seit 4 Jahren spielt ist es echt schön zu sehen wie jeder, egal wie fortgeschritten Schwierigkeiten hat, macht das video sehr relatable.
you're amazing ! i hope u will continue to practice this one and show us how strong u are !
I find it very important to leave my comfort zone every once in a while! My precision improves when I stay in my domain, but I for sure do not grow there.
Really enjoyed this! I hope others do too :)
the rhythm thing was so relatable it threw me off hella when i learned it too. Despite how it sounds, the first chorus is actually really easy cuz the arpeggios run very smoothly without a lot of jumps. The "wall" and the weird bridge with the polyrhythms by far the hardest part for me. And basically everything after the second chorus.
I am always waiting for your full cover of this annique!!
It helps to get out of your comfort zone and try things you're not used to playing. Think of this as finding areas where you need more work and I really enjoyed this video. More like this please!
I can't even imagine how hard must be reading a music sheet for piano at heardable speed by first time. I enjoyed this video so much, pianist are human too.
almost human
I could most definitely relate to how you feel about the rhythm!
Modern music (anime music included) have bizarre rhythms.
I am glad you attempted to play this music, as I think that in the long run, it will help you become a better musician. Thanks for sharing!
Yes!!! I'm learning this piece right now and can't believe I get to watch you play it in this format!
Bro I was in 4:35 when I see your comment lol
It's crazy to me that you did that much in an hour, especially since it took me like a month of on and off practice to get up to the main chorus
NO WAY! I never thought you would do unravel! Fiireeee
This has finally inspired me to learn how to read sheet music. I've literally only ever used synthesia tutorials to learn... I'm amazed it took you that quick to pick up. I've spent like an hour using the synthesia videos and only know about 15 seconds of the song fluently...
as a complete novice player but I've been composing for a long time, like 20 years. such a fun video for me to watch. keep having fun and learning from these amazing composers.
The piano sounds absolutely gorgeous
Wow, that was actually really impressive! I'm a classical pianist who learned Animenz's arrangement of We Are! (from One Piece) and it took me an entire summer plus a few months to learn the entire thing, but you were able to get that far on Unravel in an hour and a half-ish (also, keep in mind that his arrangement for We Are! is apparently not as hard as Unravel). The rhythms from any of his arrangements are really tricky to get (I had to count every sixteenth note slowly on We Are!) Also, keep at it!
Watching you struggle was very comforting. It takes me weeks to get to this level of competency on my easy grade 4 beginner pieces.
So, so cool of you to share this with us, such an entertaining video.
I'd say you should definetely keep trying, even if just as a hobby.
Cheers!
Suggestion: Do another Animenz piece and react to his performance in the end!
Omg!!! Didnt expect this. So excited right now
Guys, we have to reach 10k likes :D
the joy while im watching this is so pure like you while you practising it. inspiring me to do also this kind of challenge even tho i am super amateur
I’m so glad I just found out about your channel, you’re amazing this has inspired me to work harder at my piano learning, new subscriber here❤️
I love this series and the mix and match with the Anime,. Please do more Anime song covers. Keep up the good work!
This was interesting. Someone literally studying music for YEARS still struggle, to play Animenz's Unravel. This piece is the summit of anime music. This really is a life goal to be able to play this. Good luck on practicing, Annique! Du schaffst das schon!💪🏾
Hey Aminique i just want to say your channel is amazing and I love the challenges you do to challenge yourself and how you can break down pieces and learn them in such a short period of time. Anyways , keep going and have a nice day.
Just one day and you play it like this, So great! I hope we could hear you play the whole arrangement ❤️
though it didn't CAME OUT PERFECT after just one day's practice, getting this much progress with this most complex version is still impressive. Though maybe listening to the original song will help you a lot on getting the rhythm I'd say. Unravel kind of a revolutionary song for pop music at that time after all, so it's very understandable if you can't get the rhythm right very quickly.
I wish we can hear the more complete performance.
I quite liked the cover. I'm also an anime fan, so I'd like to watch more of these anime songs challenges. Animenz and TheIshter both have a lot of covers you could get scores from
Kudo to you for playing such a hard piece within such a short amount of time. Your sounds are always beautiful.
I wish to hear you play more OST like this. It's fun and you are doing so well for such a piece. Thanks
Very unexpected video, but in a good way! I had a good laugh watching you, with your struggles and you commenting on it 😂 I would love to see some more videos of this type (although I'm still coming mostly for the classical pieces 😍)

I was waiting for this for such a long time, finally 😭
We need more challenges of his covers pleeeaase !!!
also, i'd loooove to see a version of unravel you practice for longer
This is in my opinion the Single most beautiful piece ever. Its so nice. I hope you give it another try.
It was realy surpring for me to see such skilled pianist like you not being able to cope with an anime song, but I think that it is not bad and even cool that we cant master pieces of each type and style and now I even feel a bit more confident in my sightreading because of your example!)) Thank you for such useful and exciting content, keep doing that!)
Yeah, animenz is a monster. He explained in some videos that this piece was the hardest he wrote and he doesn't like it because of that. He tried to put as many technics as possible, he based a lot of parts on Liszt etudes and... Well, it's a pain to play, although it's beautiful.
not because the piece is hard, but because 1 hour is basically nothing to any pianist
@@tritone246 And because the piece is hard. Normally she ends up more or less playing it, but this time got practically nothing in one hour.
@@davidnoranavascues4489 that doesn't mean it's hard, but simply that the other things that she got down in 1 hour are even easier, because if you can get any sort of shape out of 1 hour of practice, no matter who you are, that isn't a hard piece
@@davidnoranavascues4489 However, I would say that hard/easy is really relative and also opinionistic. As she is a classical pianist, playing an anime transcription would give unusual difficulty as it is not something she is used to. My definition of "hard" is also rather strict, most likely because I also play piano at a rather high level, and learning something in 1 hour is rather unheard of when you get to that point.
I hope we can get 10K likes. I'd love to hear you play this piece.
it was magnificent, i think u have done much more than i expected on this piece, im really proud of you. Tatakaeeee
You still nailed it very very well tho, your one and half hour practice is better than my half a year's. Not only notes accuracy, but also phrasing and pedaling. Kudos!
OMG
No esperaba que Annique tocara alguna... Canción de anime :0
Yo creo que era demasiado obvio, tiene que expandirse más allá de lo clásico....
You struggle at rhythm because you're not used with this type of music and I assume you haven't heard the original animenz performance enough. Plus this one of his most technically challenging arrangement and your progress under 2 hours is astonishing. Respect.
"Unravelled"... seriously, I really enjoyed this one and appreciate your genuine humility so much! Awesome video!
i actually love your energy
My first question was why wasn’t this video 1hr and 11mins long
Your 1 hour is much better than my 6 months 😂😂
Annique, the video, you and your playing were lots of fun.
What's great about you doing this is A: the better you get @ it essentially learning songs on the spot the more of session player territory you're entering!!! 2nd: very brave of you to film this!!! Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Damn, would like to see how well you'd fare if you really tried to master the piece with as much time as you wanted. For a little over an hour and a half, that was impressive! Would love to see how many attempts it takes you to get the arpeggios down.
It's crazy how in 1 hours 11 min she already did better than 99% of other covers where most have been practising this song for months or even years 😂
Very good video! It was very nice to see how sincere you are and that even for someone with your experience a piece out of you confort zone can still be very difficult
much respect for you and your efforts and Im so glad to see the process the learning the scores, I have always wanted to learn piano but never found the time nor the understanding of how to even read and implement the scores
I started playing the piano a year and a half ago, I started to learn this cover a year ago. In 1 hour you're better than me. Legit
15k hours of piano vs 1000, the difference is obviously huge
This is the dumbest comment I've read in a long while
Oh, it is actually reassuring to hear that even a high level player like you can have trouble with unusual rhythms. The last piece I learned, Rachmaninoff's Elegie, I ended up spending over 1 hour just figuring out the rhythm in a few small sections. I felt really stupid, but that was a very challenging piece to me.
Despite the unusual patterns, how do you think this piece compares with difficult pieces from the standard classical repertoire? I don't know anything about anime music, but I've heard that this arrangement is extremelly difficult. I wonder how it compares to a Chopin etude, for instance. From the score, it looks like it has some very unpianistic sections.
I've played quite a few Chopin etudes and Animenz's Unravel and unravel is much harder than most Chopin Etudes although not quite as challenging as double thirds or winterwind, it certainly sits close though.
As always, fantastic video
I am so glad that just like a lot of people suggested this piece, we knew it would an awesome challenge and of course it would be so much fun to watch you do it 😆 thank you for finally making this video~~ 10k is coming so I'm sooo excited for more 😜
oh no… you went to the dark side of the piano…
Dark side? It's just another genre...
Dark side lmao XDDD

I loved this piece of music, and animez is for sure one has one of the hardest music. It was a fun challenge to watch and loved hearing it too! It was good to see a challenge for u, more chance for improvements 😊😁
I think it's nice to try something outside your comfort zone once I'm a while! Gives you more tool to work on something new later on. I think you did great!
Was binging on yt and randomly saw this, so unexpected but fun too know that you came across unravel hahah
11k likes! Looking forward to seeing you revisit this piece. I really would like to thank you for this post, I am very much a relative beginner and to see you struggle with a complex piece has me realise my own difficulties are just typical and no reason for discouragement.
