The "Nebelwerfer" as known from WW2 could be literally translated as "fog thrower" or "fog launcher". It was eventually used as a conventional multiple rocket launcher, similar to the Katyusha of the USSR, but it could also be used for smoke screens and had originally been developed for chemical warfare (to shoot canisters with gas or "fog", like in WW1).
There was already a very different „Nebelwerfer“ before, which could be translated as "Nebel thrower/ launcher". It was also an early rocket launcher, but only for air combat in WW1 and named after the pilot and later rocket scientist Rudolf Nebel who had invented it.
Yup, can confirm. Nacht und nebel, which apparently was a popular travel destination in Germany once, means "night and fog". Nebel meaning fog there. Werfer means "thrower". So, the litteral translation would be "fog thrower". Which might sound funny, but considering that "flame thrower" is a word in the same category, which is very descriptive, it is actually quiet a good description of that the weapon/tool does.

Just finished this mission, I assaulted from the East because it had the trenches from where my infantry pushed, took me solid 3 hours a lot of micro and logistics implemented but at last I only lost 1 tank and like a platoon of infantrymen, but my tanks ran out of oil so the armored assault was halted, lost a lot of infantry on the last pushes, trench by trench, was awesome
53:25 You see, they built the trenches in those zig zag lines to break the blast from artillery so it can't propagate through the trenches and kill the whole row of defenders, so 100% acurate XD
The Nebelwerfer got its name from its inventor Rudolf Nebel. It has nothing to do with nebel-mist/fog
Karl Mortar is called Karl Gerät or Geeät 040, the swven mortars have nicknames of norse mythology
german name for Karl Mortar was "Karl-Gerät" which just means "Karl Device". Love that.
I found using the 60cm mortar quite frustrating. It's incredibly unwieldly, just as I am sure it was in real life, and painfully slow to load and resupply. The slow reload "doing their taxes" is right on the money.
About 1 year late to the party but the literal translation for "Nebelwerfer" would be "Fogthrower" the name goes back to Rudolf Nebel however who was a rocket scientist.

@@thespectre5403 naw it’s a game called blitzkrieg, it my personal favorite RTS game from the early 2000s. Blitz is a cool dude as well
I recently read "In Deadly Combat", which is by a Pak gunner/Panzergrenedar who fought from 1941-45 on the entire Eastern Front, including the campaigns in southern Ukraine under Manstein. His depiction of the battle is incredible and it's amazing to see its scale/horror replicated in CtA.

A reason why Karl takes forever to load is because the shell Karl fires is a 2 foot in diameter shell.
Nebel meens fog. so it will be translated to fog trhower or smoke launcer

Id love a italian campaign, along with playable italian nation in the conquest mode. I love some of the tanks and gums they have. Along with adding Italy. Britain, and Japan should totally be added. Then I guess China if anyone wants that, was never a fan of China

Hey, *Nebelwerfer* can actually be translated in *Smoke Grenade Launcher*. *Nebel* = Smoke/Fog; *Werfer* = Launcher. Hope this helps 😊

@@sturmx96 equipment is more fun,germans went a little crazy and got creative,while the allies went with more reliable and less inventive options,ultimately the less inventive more straight forward options outclassed the germans but still fun to use

The Germans measured their guns in cm, so I assume the devs list it that way for historical reasons. I don't see how it's inconvenient to look at 8.8cm as 88mm or 60cm as 600mm. But to each their own brother!

The literal translation of nebelwerfer is "smoke projetor", could also translate as smoke mortar. In old German, I believe "nebel" origins as fog !
"Nebel" means still fog in modern German. The literal translation of "smoke" would be "Rauch".
It literally means "Fog Thrower"
werfer is thrower, liker met or myot in russian is a thrower. Ball thrower is a machine gun. Pulemyot. Rocket thrower would be a raketomyot, but Russian uses a technical term reactive artillery instead of rocket arty. MLRS translates into RSZO, or reactive ('rocket') system (of) salvo fire. Say Czechoslovak RM-70 is raketomet vzor 70.
