Romola is so enthralling in the role of Emma, just couldn't help falling for her myself,so engaging+the kind of girl we all adore(beautiful on the inside as well as the outside)❤
I love both adaptations from 1996. But this version is my favorite. How beautifully and touchingly you have done everything. Thank you for this video clip.
My favourite version of Emma, lost count of how many times i have watched it, just my opinion but i didn't like the 2020 version at all, Emma was much to arrogant and stayed that way didn't like her anymore at the end than the beginning, turned Knightley into a bit of a wimp, in that version Emma would always be dominant, where as in this beautiful version Knightley will live at Hartfield only because he loves Emma and knows that taking her away would kill her Father, he is still master of Donwell, feel they will be equals, and there is such magic between them that thay will have a fantastic love life, more than likely Emma will have as many children as her sister, and don't even get me started on how that beautiful proposal was turned into slapstick comedy with that nose bleed.
You are not alone and I went into the 2020 version with high hopes. I disliked every decision the cast made minus the father. He was the only likable character. I literally threw up my hands at the nosebleed. It was simply ridiculous.
I'm sorry but you are prejudiced against it (see what I did there? 😉). That happens all the time - people are attached to the version they've seen first. Or to the book more than to a film when they read it before watching or the other way around. I for once loved the 2020 version - it's modern but not even slightly less endearing. And Johnny Flynn is the best Knightley ever. Ergo I am most prejudiced in his favor 😍
Well done. You have very well captured the essentials of Emma and Mr Knightly's relationship. I didn't discover the 2009 adaptation of Emma till last year (in-flight entertainment!). To my way of thinking, the 2009 adaptation is the best at conveying the essence of the novel. The production team made good use of the extra running time at their disposal. To me, the 2020 film adaptation was a somewhat bizarre parody.
I love this so much 😭 Immediately became one of my favorite edits for any topic ❤ I realized near the end I was kinda holding my breath 🤭 Emma and Mr.Knightley have always been one of my favorite couples and you have absolutely done them justice 😊
That is so beautiful and well orchestrated, I think in fact this might be the best video for this pair I ever seen, and deserves more likes. 2009 Emma is my favourite and it will stay that way. The cast, the music, perfection
Really need an actress you can love to play Emma, to make the mistakes painful but she to remain in favour. Garai is wonderful in the part... and this Mr Knightley really suits...actually quite like all the three most recent adaptations & it's great that they're all different.
So beautiful ! Your video includes some wonderful scenes that I have not seen in the BBC version I bought. Where do these come from? Thank you. Eva Poirier
I think Garai is the worst Emma, she generally gives the impression that Emma is a 12 year old trapped in a 21 year old’s body. She has none of the elegant manners and deportment Emma should have. She doesn’t move with elegance, she usually sits hunched over or slouched (with the occasional draping), and she makes a lot of undignified, unladylike faces. Also, Emma and Knightly (who also does a lot of slouching) are frequently shouting at each other. Harriet is (finally) appropriately pretty. Mrs. Elton looks a bit young; I think it works better when the viewer can see how close to the shelf Mrs Elton was at the time of her marriage. Other than Emma and Knightly, I can’t remember how the rest of the cast performs so I’ll have to rewatch. Paltrow is fine as Emma but just looking at those tight buns gives me a headache. I think Toni Colette was miscast, though. Harriet is supposed to be at least 4 years younger than Emma and *very* pretty; her beauty is the justification for her elevation by Emma, and Colette doesn’t have that. Mrs. Elton is great! Mr. Wood house is ok, but oddly jolly in parts. I watch it almost as often as the Beckinsdale version. The Anna Taylor Joy one is Ok, but the film seemed more concerned with showing off than developing the characters & story; Miss Bates and her precarious situation is neglected here. I take issue with how combative the Elton’s are with each other. Book Mr. Elton is mostly on board with his wife’s behavior, and when he isn’t, he gently tries to rein her in. Isabella Knightly is always yelling at John in this film, wth!? Mr. Woodhouse too boisterous, Mr. Elton is not handsome enough, and Elton & Churchill look too much alike. I also don’t like Emma’s involvement in Harriet reuniting with Mr. Martin, that’s a big change from the novel. Also, Emma did mot tell Knightly about Harriet’s being in love with him in the novel because he may have felt honor bound to marry Harriet, so why change that in the film? Badly done! Bekinsale’s Emma is my favorite. Emma is as ladylike and well mannered and attractive as she should be, but also shows how young in experience she really is. Emma and Knightly really seem as if they have known each other forever. Isabella is the right balance of loving wife & mother, and worrywort. John Knightly is the right balance of jerk, loving husband, and brother. Mr. Woodhouse is the right balance of hypochondriac, concerned & generous friend and father. Some say Mr. Knightly is too angry, maybe a tad, but not by much. I love Harriet, though still not as pretty as Harriet should be.
Romola is so enthralling in the role of Emma, just couldn't help falling for her myself,so engaging+the kind of girl we all adore(beautiful on the inside as well as the outside)❤
By far the best version of Emma, I have watched it countless times.
My favorite version they have truly chemistry and so dreamy
The Best Emma & Knightley ever ❤ so many loving memories... Thank you so much ❤❤❤
I love this. So beautiful for my favorite version of this story.
Aww thank you 🥰

I agree. I didn't like the 2020 version at all

The new version is a joke. Seemingly done campy on purpose. This 2009 bbc version is absolutely perfection!
Can we pretend the 2020 version never happened? Especially since it didn't need to happen?

Mythological of course, but boy does this vibrate very primal strings in a most pleasing and satisfying way.
