Abuse affects a girl/ woman's self image and self esteem more too, so oftentimes they feel that they don't deserve better. They may have also witnessed toxic behaviors or abuse from men toward their mother or other female family members or even friends, so they think men being jerks is normal. Just "boys being boys". Young girls also start getting messages at a very young age from various sources throughout society such as parents, family, friends, church, music, movies, TV, etc. that it is a woman's job to fix a man and stand by him no matter what he does or how bad he treats her. There are honestly lots of reasons why women choose certain men or even if they didn't know he was bad in the beginning, they end up staying because they feel guilty or they are broken down by the time they fully realize what they're dealing with. That's why we need to make sure that girls have good role models and high self esteem from a young age.
