My mom legally came to the U.S. when she was 14 years old in the late 1960s early 1970s. She clawed and fought to her way to get through racism, hard work, and saved up enough money to buy a house. The stories she told me about the hard life she went through made me think of the ridiculous petty things I complained about my pampered life. Through her sacrifice (in addition to my work experience), I have a roof over my head and food on the table. Respect the older generations who worked their ass off so that we could have it easy.

I thought it was a record exec that said that, but that is how they got their name by someone saying that they were Righteous Brothers and their singing was Righteous!
Very true. Black Marines from El Toro Base heard a couple of white guys were singing R&B and blues at The Black Derby and dropped by to check it out. Were impressed enough to holler "That's righteous brother" and greeted them saying "How you doin' righteous brothers" on their way into the club. Both Bill and Bobby have told that story. Took it as a term of respect and would never have used it otherwise.
I'm an elderly white woman and when I first heard this song, along about 1965, I thought it was sung by two black men. I fell in love with the song and thought it had so much soul. I fell in love with all their songs. I was shocked when I found out the two young men were actually white. But music has no color. Thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories. I subscribed.
This is back when the black and white communities were sharing each other's music. Think how strong the R&B influence is here, same with jazz and swing. We were sharing a music and entertainment culture then. Sadly, that is largely gone.
Being surprised by these "brothers" being white isn't going to offend anyone. Some people seek to feel offended, They see racism everywhere they look....unless it's a mirror. I LOVE seeing people discover this great music. The great Smokey Robinson was once asked about Motown being black music to which he instantly replied...Motown is EVERYONE'S music. Music can show us all a thing or two. Keep up the good work MRM. God bless.

We called it Blue eyed soul. The story is that they got their name playing in a venue where blacks were a majority of the audience after they were finished an audience member walked up to them and told them "that was righteous brother" they took it for their name. I love them.

So easy to take this for granted when you heard it a thousand times..it is so awesome to see someone enjoy this for the FIRST time. And I appreciate it all over again. What a performance!!
So true...watching someone too young to know these legends is soo entertaining. Young people with open minds who want to broaden their musical knowledge please listen up! ❤
You hear a lot of the arrangement, too, that you never heard before. When you were just bopping around, instead of sitting here listening carefully to the song..
I am an old white guy too, and it is great seeing the reaction. The oldies music is the best ever made in my opinion. Thanks for playing the great songs.
DL Mullins, I agree. I get such a kick out of seeing young people loving and appreciating our musical nostalgia as much as we do. It gets me emotional.
Enjoyed the reaction, seems genuine. I grew up listening to Motown and it's true, these guys fit right in. I wish Black music culture would return to genuine soul. Can't relate to hip hop. Yeah, I'm a white guy in his 60s.
Yes!!! Someone on UA-cam that isn't afraid to react to this old school music before the days of autotune, and isn't just reacting to mainstream top 40! Subscribed!!
Ty, you don't need to apologize for not believing that these were "two white dudes." We didn't know it either in my teen years until we saw the Righteous Brothers singing their music on television. Amazing music and what became known as "blue-eyed soul."
Bill Medley (tall one) trivia: his daughter married Axl Rose back in the day, but had the wedding annulled after 1 weekend. Also - Bill is still performing at age 79, with a new partner. Filling Vegas showrooms (when the town isn't shut down). How amazing is that? What a pair of incredible talents.
Ok, I am shook! I've heard the song 1,000 times and have always loved it, but I have never SEEN these guys before. I thought they were straight out bruthas, too! Day-uum!!!
Old white guy here. We all thought this was a black group when we first heard it on the radio. We were crusin in Seattle. This was in the sixties. Oh the movie Mis Mary was talking about was "Top Gun".
I loved the way you loved this. And, I adore the way you don’t stop and start the video constantly in order to comment; I hate that. I like the way you do things. I am a white woman and there was nothing to be offended about. The Righteous Brothers brought it! The baritone and the tenor. Blue-eyed soul.
Reactions like this are a big reason the reaction videos are catching on. To see the joy on somebody's face when they discover new music that they love is one of those things that show how music can bring all people together despite differences in age, gender, color and culture. Plus it helps that you're a genuinely likable guy. Put me down for a like and a sub. Also, from 1:20 to 1:40 may very well be the greatest 20 seconds of reaction on UA-cam. I've already lost count of how many times I've rewatched this video just to see that double take.
It makes us 53 year olds feel good to see you young whipper-snappers hearing good music. Yes, the Righteous Brothers have several songs that are often soundtracks for movies. If you want to see a funny skit watch Jimmy Fallon and Tom Cruise lip sync this song. It's hysterical.
Robert Martin Loved Ty’s reaction....can’t believe he’d never heard it before since it was reported as the most played song of the 20th century...I loved the reaction “White dude?.....TWO white dudes!!!!”....fantastic reaction to a great Phil Spector Wall of Sound production.
Indeed. I love that double take. He looks up from the phone and sees him, but it doesn't fully register as he is distracted by wondering what is on his phone. He looks down... and all of a sudden it clicks in his mind what he saw and he looks back up with widening eyes. Classic. Love it!
Growing up I heard this all the time at my grandmas house. My mother loved this song. I’m surprised you haven’t heard it. It was all over the radio!😊 I believe it was 1950s into the 60s!
One of my moms favorite groups, we lost her in 2011. Bless you. I love those guys, heard them all my life going up and on and on. They have a bunch of great tunes. Much love.
I promise you that this song gave new meaning to SLOW DANCING! I know that I enjoyed myself immensely dancing to this song! Thanks for bringing back some wonderful and SLOW memories☮️ P.S.: LOVE YOUR REACTION!
My brother & sisters were 15-14 years older than me which meant I was flooded with this kind of awesome music. Grateful I grew up around amazing music (I was 2 when this was recorded).
I have watched this reaction several times and every time, I find it hilarious when you do a double take, scratch your head and say "A white dude?!" Then, "Two white dudes?!" I have seen a number of reactors react to these guys for the first time and a lot of them say they thought they were black. Hell, I would've done too if I didn't already know who they were...and I'm white! 😂
Gotta love that scene in Top Gun! They are Righteous brothers for a reason! I got the 8 Track of this somewhere... "Unchained Melody" is another song they did, and launched a thousand covers.
I had a rare 8 track recorder when I was a kid in the 80's. I would pop one of those big bad boys in and record songs off the radio. I did the same with cassettes too, but those 8 tracks were something else.
@@MrPetrion Tim Robinson Talks about that...remember how it never quite sounded right after splicing it back together...it always had that wobble AND you couldn't listen to a particular song unless it was the first on a track!
Back when were were in college, my friends had girlfriends working at the bar on Valentines day. We did our best Top Gun impression and sang the song to them. Had the entire bar singing.
Bobby and Bill's amazing voices combined with Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound resulted in this fantastic piece of music from the early 60s. So glad I was a teenager in that era.
agreed. people that love & adore this song sometimes forget there was a third man behind this musical triumph: Phil Spector. you never saw him. but you sure heard him:)

@@waukivorycopse2402 I guess only the apollo counts then.
Sorry, what do you mean?
Ty, it was hard being a teen girl back then and behaving yourself with all the awesome music we had.
And behaving yourself...🤣
I was approx 19 yrs old when this song came out. Loved Righteous Brothers since then. Really happy that a young man today appreciates good music.
This song - by the Righteous Brothers - was the most played song on radio in the 20th century with over
8 million plays
Doesn't matter what color the singer is, good music is good music. Appreciate all of it no matter what.
Absolutely Right 🤩👍 👍
@BeerCamp Slave Quit lying
THAT WAS COLD BLOODED! THEY BOTH HAVE SOUL FOREVER!! LOVE IT TO PIECES!!
Kinda like when Charley Pride broke into country music........ the good ol boys where like "what? thats a black guy singing?
Yeah, years ago I was shocked to discover that Charley Pride was black. RIP, by the way. Mr. Pride just passed away about three days ago.
Or Darius Rucker; but that guy’s got a voice that can take him through any genre, I think.
THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS ARE MAJOR! THEY DOMINATED THE GRAMMY'S FOR 40 YEARS! PLEASE PLAY "YOU MY SOUL AND INSPIRATION" AND "UNCHAINED MELODY"! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
So easy to take this for granted when you heard it a thousand times..it is so awesome to see someone enjoy this for the FIRST time. And I appreciate it all over again. What a performance!!
this is my latest favorite genre of youtube videos
true words
So true...watching someone too young to know these legends is soo entertaining. Young people with open minds who want to broaden their musical knowledge please listen up! ❤
You hear a lot of the arrangement, too, that you never heard before. When you were just bopping around, instead of sitting here listening carefully to the song..
I grew up listening to this song. It’s a classic❣️
Debi Pepper my mom went to school with these guys
I am an old white guy too, and it is great seeing the reaction. The oldies music is the best ever made in my opinion. Thanks for playing the great songs.
Yeah I agree. Today's music and artists would be nothing without auto tune. Back in the day, it was all pure talent. Unbeatable in my humble opinion.
DL Mullins, I agree. I get such a kick out of seeing young people loving and appreciating our musical nostalgia as much as we do. It gets me emotional.
@@tiner27 Same here.
Enjoyed the reaction, seems genuine. I grew up listening to Motown and it's true, these guys fit right in. I wish Black music culture would return to genuine soul. Can't relate to hip hop.
Yeah, I'm a white guy in his 60s.
I'm a 61 yr old sistah who relates 2 REAL MUSIC only interested in a few good Hip Hop tunes. I miss Soul| R&B music.
We grew up on this stuff, we miss that Motown sound! 🎵💓
I was a 80 baby, and my parents listened to the oldies 106.5 before the station folded. I still listen to this music.
Mike Johnson Lol ❤️ I agree
I’m a white lady in my mid sixties also there was some good music. My son is in his thirties and they like this stuff too....
Best duo of all time. And best song as well I could listen to this song everyday.
A little blue-eyed soul from the 60'S
Bill Medley (tall one) trivia: his daughter married Axl Rose back in the day, but had the wedding annulled after 1 weekend. Also - Bill is still performing at age 79, with a new partner. Filling Vegas showrooms (when the town isn't shut down). How amazing is that? What a pair of incredible talents.
it was not Bill Medley's daughter that was married to Axl Rose. It was Don Everly's daughter from the Everly Brothers.
You forgot to mention that one of the background singers was a young Cher.
Miss Bobby Hatfield so much we lost him in 2003 great tenor!!!!!
Ok, I am shook! I've heard the song 1,000 times and have always loved it, but I have never SEEN these guys before. I thought they were straight out bruthas, too! Day-uum!!!
Bill Medley (the low voiced singer) also sung "Time of My Life" with Jennifer Warnes from the movie Dirty Dancing.
They were the main reason for the term "Blue Eyed Soul". 1964.
Coolrockndad was wondering if someone would recall they are the original Blue-Eyed Soul brothers. So “RIGHTEOUS!”
Lol, whenever I see you scratching that head, I know you like it!!! Too funny!!! Love it!!!
Old white guy here. We all thought this was a black group when we first heard it on the radio. We were crusin in Seattle. This was in the sixties. Oh the movie Mis Mary was talking about was "Top Gun".
Black or white, soul finds its way through and connects all of humanity. You just have to listen for it.
When you scratch your head you know they are killing it....!!LOL
That was a 3 timer
i give u a million likes.he rubs his head when it makes no sense lmfao
He was getting chills!
I know right?
@@andreadeamon6419 I challenge anyone to find another video where he does it 3 or more times.
All my black friends thought these were black dudes, I loved setting them straight, 40 years ago.
Narrow Gate amen!
This is (arguably) a top 20 song ever.
Classic. Love it!
This is why source ( God) made music. Yes, they was back when Rat pack was getting cold.
Robin Addis-Vaughn, us 71 year olds too.
Yes, back when I young the artist was judged by talent, and race wasn't an issue. Race should never ever be an issue.
Human race
Great reaction! Your face when you realized they were white was priceless! The Righteous Brothers hands down show us soul has no color.
Growing up I heard this all the time at my grandmas house. My mother loved this song. I’m surprised you haven’t heard it. It was all over the radio!😊 I believe it was 1950s into the 60s!
💗💗💗 Beautiful song ! So glad you did this for Mary.
*Always* get goosebumps right away when this begins, because I know what is coming up ! Whew !!!
Thanks for bringing back some wonderful and SLOW memories☮️
P.S.: LOVE YOUR REACTION!
My brother & sisters were 15-14 years older than me which meant I was flooded with this kind of awesome music. Grateful I grew up around amazing music (I was 2 when this was recorded).
Blue-eyed soul!!! I saw them in their prime...GREAT !!!
Bill Medley sings one of my all time favorites "I've Had the Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing
“90 year old firecracker” 😂👍🏻
I would love to meet her!
God bless you to. You are an awesome young man! I grew up listening to them. Welcome to my world!
The Righteous Brothers had many great hits, both as a duo and also as singles. The were called Blue Eyed Soul back then.
A great oldie but goodie .. remember this growing up ..❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song was released in November 1964...it got to #1 in Feb.1965...a CLASSIC!!!
Young guy reacting to old music; clever idea. Try Unchained Melody
yes yes yes yes yes
Ruby Gall
Oh, he does react to Unchained Melody and is even MORE blown away. Find it...watch it...you will love it!
I'm just loving this 😉
Ruby Gall that was going to be my suggestion. I haven’t seen that clip “yet” .
I loved your reaction, so genuine. I'm delighted you discovered this duo from my childhood. Keep listening.
Gotta love that scene in Top Gun! They are Righteous brothers for a reason! I got the 8 Track of this somewhere...
"Unchained Melody" is another song they did, and launched a thousand covers.
good ol' 8-tracks. the player would eat them. i'd spend an hour pullin' out the tape. then i'd wind it back up with a pencil. ha!
Did that for my friend's wedding. :D
Got to say, awesome look in your eyes and the expression on your face when the spotlight came up on the clip.
Watching you react to this made me smile from ear to ear, THANKS! :D
Couldn't stop smiling for this one, oo the goosebumps.
Ssaammmeee
Two of the greatest soul singers ever.
