Can't wait till my 2 grow a Bit , I find all palms beautiful, specially when you grow them where they're not supposed to grow ,have a Fantastic growing season ♥️🌴🇺🇲🤗
one thing ive learned with my trunking sabals, is they are more finnicky to the box method where as other palms don't take too much frond discoloration while covered, they do. ive been putting clear sides on mine, but after this past winter i plan to not box it and only frost cloth/lights when needed on coldest times. I find i have a side or two off more then on for it so that it doesn't fry with the clear sides during the day
I box mine with styrofoam boxes,c9 lights and they still come out discoloured and loose most fronds every winter! Not sure what the problem is.I have sabal minors btw.
@@pawelelektryk2985 Zone 5 is pushing it for Sabal. They love heat. So in your zone they would full sun and let them go dormant and let them stay in the -12C to 5C Range in the box. Only Box below -12C to -15C
@tntropics we have pretty hot summers where I am.but maybe you are right, maybe I should only protect them when it gets below the temperatures u mention.thanks for your input.
I live in inland north San Diego county. And I am a full zone 10A, so cold is not a factor here. My Sabal's all died... Just out of nowhere, for no apparent reason, they would suddenly die. So I grow no Sabal's. They are among the palm trees I cannot grow.
Do you have any Mediterranean fan palms? If so, please do an in-depth video on them, they are great palms that are cold hearty yet I feel they unjustly have not been given their fair share of attention in the palm community here on UA-cam.
The Trachys seem to have hairy trucks while the Sabal palmettos don't have that, so they have different looks to them. Looks like everything made it through the -6F.
@@nathanielalgernon975 Basically only Sabal minor survived with up to 25% damage or so. All other Sabals were either protected or had basically complete defoliation at -6F.
Not much to dislike when in Cincinnati, OH I can leave two palm trees out on their own with no protection whatsoever at +1.1°F and have very little damage occur from it lol! Not the classiest palm out there, but at least it's American haha!
Hi TNtropics, good points, I think God makes these palms grow so frickin slow to teach us patience! & THANK YOU for updating that intro music!
Thanks. You know how it is, I don't have a lot to choose from on the UA-cam music..
That’s true about the UA-cam music…

Yep thanks Jose!
Among the minuses, I would also add the weak resistance of the leaves to the wind.
Yes on the Louisiana types especially
Honestly. I'm the same way too. But it's worth the wait. I'll still grow them
Thanks
My Sabal Causiarum went from no trunk, 2 foot tall, to a 6 foot tall trunk with a thick 20 foot canopy in about 7 years. I'm in Florida.
Nice

Interesting to know. Hard to deal with clear box panels in sunny areas

@@pawelelektryk2985ja swojego sabala zimą trzymam pod folią. Jak spada temperatura poniżej -10 to go grzeje .
Great video and information as always. I love my sabals
Thanks. Looking forward to your summer updates
Do you protect you wind Mill (Trachy) palms in the winter? Wrap them or use any lighting or do you just let them ride out winter?
Protected usually.. check my palm protection playlist my channel
You covered the Sabal Minors but didn't mention your Sabal Palmetto. Are you doing a second video on them?
Take a look at the Sabal playlist. I don't have plans for another palmetto video soon. Probably late summer ua-cam.com/video/9Z1Z1dIafCc/v-deo.html
I would get another Sabal again but I feel like it just won't beat a needle in growth if it gets damaged
I love sabal palmetto but hate that I can't grow it to a substantial size with its beautiful full crown and lollipop look.
Yea really slow compared to Trachycarpus in cooler areas

Slow growth for sure but its nice to add sabals to the palm collection 👍
For sure!
Nice video and indeed, I have about the same love-hate relationship with Sabal 😁
Yes for you especially slow and hard to source

I don't have a med fan palm
@@tntropics perhaps it could be a good new addition 😄😂. Perfect time to plant is right now!
I want a Sabal !
So hard to get in UK with export/import controls

I've got 5 unprotected Sabal hybrid types that are severely beaten up by the -6F
This summer sometime, I'd be interesting to hear which Sabals look the best, which ones took the cold the best. @@tntropics
